Actually thinking more about it while my favorite Pokemon is indeed Gengar I don't think my username or profile fits Gengar.

ShotoStar > Shoto is a fighting character like or so Fighting > Star, Stars are in the Sky birds or planes fly in the Sky so Flying > Fighting Flying type > I'm Hawlucha.

What makes a protagonist likable in your opinion? And what makes an unlikable one?
Do you guys think a character's appearance affects how likable they can be?
Are there some tropes you guys wish to see more on protagonists? Or that you guys are getting tired of?

One friend just told me that she only recently started considering us to be truly close friends, and told me that prior to my realization she didn't know if she could be herself around me... the two of us have been on four trips together, I had thought we were closer than that...

And another friend tried to kill themselves. They failed, but they're not doing well right now.

And then there was Peach and Daisy's, and Zelda's... The first 2 got big buffs where they can make nearby opponents fall to their death if they're not on a platform, and we speak not of how broken Zelda's pulling one is. Let's just say me seeing that Alpharad vid about Final Smashes said enough for me... most of em anyways.

2. Of course.
3. I dislike 100% adoration tropes......white knights can get old very fast. Chosen One tropes have been overplayed imo, but if done right, they can be good.

Now that I think about it, I haven't seen much of a redemption trope for heroes. That could work as well, perhaps.

Wow. Well, this is going to sound incredibly patronizing and obvious, but here's my advice. That person who tried to kill themself is your friend. Wow. Well, this is going to sound incredibly patronizing and obvious, but here's my advice. That person who tried to kill themself is your friend. Make sure that you value them, and tell them how awesome they are. Maybe hang out with them more or go bowling. Just make sure that they realize how much you care about them and try to make them feel better.

Unfortunately, hanging out isn't an option right now due to circumstances beyond our control. I do my best otherwise every day.

Oh man that must hurt, sorry you had to go through that. My best advice is to make sure they know that you care about them so invite them to the movies with you or something just spend some time with them and make sure they know that there are people out there who cares about them. Good luck with everything and I wish you the best of luck.

Edit: if Hanging out is beyond your control send them cards or something to allow them to know that you care about them, it doesn't have to be very Extravagant in order for them to understand that there are people out there that care. and if that doesn't work just make sure that they're safe by calling their parents or other friends. Good luck with everything.

CHOSEN ONE!

The 100% Adoration Rating Trope is one of the hallmarks of a Classic Mary Sue, they can be done well but usually aren't. If you do a 100% Adoration Rating character, it should probably not be the main character (not that this can't work, Po in the Kung-Fu Panda sequels is universally loved by the people in his village, but you rarely ever stay there so it doesn't really come up).

Speaking of Chosen Ones, I think One Piece strikes an even balance with the Chosen One trope.

As the series has progressed, it's becoming increasingly clear that Luffy has some kind of great destiny, but you never get the feeling that he's not worked for or otherwise earned everything he's gotten thus far.

Doc needs his own icon, victory theme, and stage. Especially stage. It bugs me this hasn't happened yet.

1. Primarily, a dedication to doing the right thing. That's the quintessential hero quality. The most unlikable protagonists, to me, are ones that make needlessly selfish or petty decisions. Not that the protagonist has to be perfect or flawless, but just that they aren't consistently inconsiderate of the people and world around them, or don't make any monumental decisions that come across as self-centered.
2. It definitely can be offputting, and with how much emphasis is put on cosmetics and character customization nowadays, having a protagonist with an unappealing design might turn away potential players, even if the charcter's personality is likable.
3. I think that the "mute, blank-slate" protagonist is a little overused nowadays. There's nothing inherently wrong with it, as it offers the advantage of making it easier for the player to become immersed in the character and the world. However, there are times when it's used even when it doesn't make sense. The gaming landscape could use more protagonists who are actual written characters, rather than just mannequins for the player to control. Thankfully, we got a lot of well-written protagonist characters last year (Celeste, God of War, Spider-Man come to my mind).

1. Give them flaws. Not only does it makes them more interesting, but it makes them more relatable too.
2. Yes, definitely.
3. I guess just stereotypes. Sometimes they can be good starting points for characters, but nothing's worse than the main character being your "typical so-and-so." Make them your own.
