Dependent agree. Sure, there are people who ****post for likes -> clout, and it is pretty clear that most everybody here gets emotional easily.
I mean, not that I'm going to go there, but think back to that discussion about the wiki; nobody wanted their pages to be edited by anybody because they were afraid of the vandalism out of their control.
My point is this; SmashBoards has done a good job at giving people a safe space to talk in and chat with. This is over the internet too, so it's safe to say that most people using the site have some sort of social anxiety. Introverted at the bare minimum.
However, it is still unhealthy to thrive off of that alone. Right now, sure. Everybody feels comfortable under the protection of the modmins that they can be themselves without being criticized by others. But as this continues, that's all they get. Support, encouragement, and empathy, over and over. And the thing is, THOSE ARE ALL GREAT ATTRIBUTES! Why leave when you can always get supported by fellow Smash Bros players (because that is why we are here in the first place).
So, we stop being dependent on this.
The reason I was so questioning to
Swamp Sensei
's withdrawal and the general mood of the thread is because I have been thinking too. This post is highly controversial, I understand that, but relying on a safe-space for an extended period of time is still unhealthy in the long run. It becomes an addiction, a high. Likes are clout to some people as aforementioned, which is dangerous thinking. Sure, that last point makes it seem like I'm salty because I "don't get likes", but I have become a bit withdrawn from the site as well. Do I still support it? Hell yeah! But I'm not going to be 24/7 invested in it as I previously was, and I advise you all to step out of your comfort zones a bit and experience the real world a bit. Sure it will seem like hell to some who may have grown a reliance on SmashBoards. Sure not everybody is going to always agree with you. Sure bad people won't get banned from the World Thread. But sometimes there isn't anything else to do.
Yes, this is an opinion and I can't force anybody to do that, that would be highly unreasonable and illogical on my part if that was my goal, which it is not. SmashBoards is not a bad place to be to associate with other fans of the game and just chat about it. To answer the question, no. Not everybody. I don't give a damn about my ego, and neither should you all. I don't know what my train of thought is anymore, so I'm going to post this and here what other opinions people have. There will be people who bash this, and I want to change my mind for telling people to stop being overly sensitive.
