So I was teaching today...well, I teach juniors and seniors, and the senior class is Drama & Film. The juniors, because I teach in New York State, have to pass the State Regents Exam to graduate high school. That said, they have to complete 24 multiple choice questions which are based on 3 different reading passages, a 6 paragraph argumentative essay which is based on 4 different texts, and a literary analysis based on 1 text.
Pyra
that's what a final exam looks like.
Anyway, I was telling one class what they could expect to be on the exam, and a student asked for an example of what the text could be for the Part 3 literary analysis. The exchange kinda went like this:
Student: Uh, Mr. Jones (not my real last name), can you give us an example of what would be on the Part 3?
Me: I mean, I could. But you might not be familiar with it. Think about this...
Student: Come on, you have to know at least one-
Me: Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.
