Here's a question for Sonic fans.
Do you like Orbot and Cubot? If so, what do you like about them? If not, why not?
. . .
Eh.
Every cartoon except Satam already repeatedly created inept character duos to be useless for our entertainment and played them out, so they're not really necessary.
But they're not like, offensive or anything either.
Like I've got some grievances about how the writing of Sonic games has been handled since their respective introductions (Unleashed starting the trend of doing literally everything to justify alternate playstyles without actually making other characters playable because the fandom is a stupid angry mass of misaimed complaints and Sonic Team thinks playing Literal Genie will get people to like them if they just keep doing it repeatedly, and from Colors onward the games just. . .losing all concept of ambition plot wise), but it's neither of THEIR faults. They're just kinda there, probably intended as a way of taking a peek at Eggman's side of the story without it getting overdramatic and grimdark (because Eggman is a sociopath yay) but never really being given any kind of agency. Since there's no reason for them to necessarily NOT be there though someone could easily go in there and just give them more personality beyond being butlers that are respectively snarky and bumbling.
I mean there's no reason for Eggman NOT to have butlers. He's egotistical and childish enough to have butlers. But they're in a weird spot where they have more dialog than the sheer lack of things they currently do really warrants, so either they should be more background characters or they should have more of a point. It's like Modern gameplay in general, while I'm still OK with it the whole thing just kind of feels like halfsies and I just wish they'd try something with more heart.
