While I largely agree with you, I would like to say that we'll likely be seeing one or two concessions to core fans. To reference Nintendo's most recent
investor's meeting:

There is that section about "not only fans of the Super Smash Bros. series" which implies we'll be seeing a concession of some sort to appease them.

Which is where I think Banjo & Kazooie come in, considering that, after Geno, they are the next most popular core fanbase pick. Nintendo and Microsoft also being in a position to leverage their relationship for a mutually beneficial purpose would be a very smart business decision.
This is a fair point, but I have a slightly different reading of this.

Here, they're not necessarily talking about DLC for the entire thing. For me, it seems as though the "bringing back" of all of the characters is what could largely be considered "for the Smash fans". That was without a doubt a welcome move by most Smash fans to begin with.

With them wanting to expand the audience of the game, that basically solidifies to me that there isn't going to be a single Nintendo character in DLC, as that effectively doesn't spread the audience outward. That isn't to say a fan couldn't see a Three Houses character and be like, "wow, that's cool. I'm going to buy a Switch and Smash, and then Fire Emblem!", but I think the larger payoff is, "WOAH. They added a Resident Evil character, and you can get grabbed by a Licker on a Raccoon City stage? That's sick! Resident Evil is my favorite series, so I'm totally getting in on that!"

But I do semi-agree with you. We'll just have to wait and see if Microsoft truly does get somebody in the game.

Well, that's kind of you. I always feel bad when I realize my post is massive by the time I'm done. I just hope nobody thinks I'm pretentious or anything over a videogame.

At work, among friends, and even when it's just me and my girlfriend, I am...an epic ****poster.

See, my problem with that is it starts to feel less like a Nintendo fighting game and more like a game fighting game. xD
Bruh there’s already like 60 Nintendo characters in the game, 5 more 3rd parties ain’t gonna change ****.

I'm more impressed you're able to consistently type up in-depth essays like this while I'm content just giving people one sentence jokes and two sentence conversations most of the time.

Alfonse and Sharena were robbed of Spirits, I was quite surprised that there were no FEH Spirits, Spirit updates when Sakurai?

Huh, only 2 months to go until it has been a year since we first saw Ultimate footage at E3. Time maybe passed a bit too fast for me.

a direct doesn't have to mean a reveal of Jane - there's nothing to stop them from throwing her out as a surprise reveal on the 25th at PSL while nintendo shows off Joker at an earlier date and sets his release date for the 25/26th while pretending she doesn't exist
I suppose so, but I still have my doubts. Guess we'll just wait and see; I still have a feeling that a Direct won't happen until the end of the month. :drshrug:

Geez.

Me and my pal run a channel about voice acting together, and we planned to do some dubs on there. So far we have 373 auditions. Wow.

Edit: Thing is my pal's gonna have to sort through every single audition then I need to dig out the specific ones he wants cast.

While I'm here and not playing Resident Evil 0, I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in on at least a few of the DLC choices. I'll just outline what I think we're looking at.

In my previous post, I mentioned that I don't think we'll get more than one character from any one company.

Capcom
From Capcom, we already have Mega Man and two picks from Street Fighter. These are two of Capcom's most celebrated series to date. We also have the Rathalos, the iconic monster from Monster Hunter as a boss.

Despite the amazing result of Monster Hunter World, I agree with friends of mine when they've said that Rathalos is basically the mascot of Monster Hunter, and is their most iconic piece. A Monster Hunter fighter could be cool, but it just seems like...weird. It's nothing substantial, but I just don't expect it to happen.

While Monster Hunter World is the highest selling Capcom game ( I think of all time? It really is great though), their highest grossing franchise is none other than Resident Evil. There's no other franchise or genre in a playable state in Smash already. Do I think there might be minimal comparisons to a Snake moveset for Jill, Leon, or another RE protagonist? Maybe. But there's some interesting stuff for a long-ranged, strategic zoning movesets for these guys. The stage options are fantastic, and even some items (collecting green and red herbs to restore health, anyone?). It's a multimedia franchise that is certainly known to many a gamer.

Aside from Resident Evil, Capcom has other series to go to. Unfortunately, we already know Dante hasn't been picked. Amaterasu from Okami, and Phoenix Wright of the Ace Attorney series are also nice choices. Phoenix Wright especially would be a "less than expected" choice.

Namco/Bandai
By no means do I think a character from NB is guaranteed, but I will at least comment on the fact that Sakurai went out of his way to specifically mention Heihachi and Lloyd Irving specifically in interviews about the content of the game. Both of them have had Mii Fighter costumes. I think it's entirely plausible, if we even get a NB character to begin with, that it's one of these two dudes.

That said, i think we could get neither. Or, simply nothing from Namco at all.

Square Enix
There are some great picks from SE, but I firmly believe Dragon Quest is going to be the pick. It's simply got the legacy for JRPG titles, the longevity, and...I'm sorry, but after that last Direct spending enough time on DQXI, I felt that it was simply happening. They treated the title like it was the next coming of Gaming Jesus. I entirely think we're getting Erdrick/the Luminary.

Other great picks, however, would be Lara Croft, Sora, or another Final Fantasy character. Or Chrono.

SEGA
I'm not sure whether to count Bayonetta and Joker as "SEGA characters" already, but aside from Sonic I simply don't know that I expect anything from SEGA. Sorry, SEGA fans!

Koei Tecmo
I've never played Ninja Gaiden. I've frankly only played Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors. I have no experience with Ryu Hayabusa, but I also have no qualms with him being in Smash. I simply view it as, "Meh, not one I would have picked", but I will be satisfied simply because I can see it as a legacy series that started in the old days of gaming. He's also, like, the original ninja in the first place.

SNK
i watched my friend play King of Fighters one time.

I have little experience with these games, but my questions is more or less, what would Terry Bogard bring that Ryu doesn't already? What fighting style does he bring that makes him stand out from the rest? This is one in particular that I'm simply not convinced of.

I could absolutely see him getting a Mii Fighter costume though.

No, but for realsies, my essays are typically word vomit that happens because Smash is like the only game I care this much about in the capacity to talk with other people about what they could do. I love a lot of different series. But Smash is basically a culmination of the games that have made my identity growing up.

I think the essay thing is a mix of passion and the fact that i’m a teacher of English. The writing just comes natural.

The brain vomit just...makes it harder to stop writing!

If they want ad money they can get rid of the adware that pollutes my laptop and phone when I have ad block off tbh.

Annnnddddd I should probably be supporting Smash Boards....?

Crap, now I feel bad I’m not already.
It's all marketing, don't worry about it.

I've been using an adblocker for ages and I'd gladly buy premium if I could, but ads slow down my PC considerably.

Your an admin so you're probably the best person to ask, but do you have some insight on this?

Before I got premium, whenever I was on Smashboards my computer would repeat random phrases. It was creepy as ****. Stuff like "hello."

It's interesting that you bring up Terry. I'm not going to argue he would be super distinct from Ryu but he's still unique. Fundamentally, compared to Ryu's proper martial arts Terry is mainly a street brawler, which gives him a different style to his punches and kicks and a different personality in the way he animates. Looking at actual moves, Terry's known for his signature moves Burn Knuckle and Power Wave

These I think are somewhat unique in the larger context of Smash, certainly pretty distinct to the street fighters. That's not to mention Terry's acrobatics too

Overall, while I think Terry wouldn't be the most unique character of all time, I'd say he has more than enough to make him feel distinct.

Hell Granblue has a character who straight up has Buster Wolf as their 'big' attack.

It turns out that Nintendo never approached Criterion Games to actually make a F-Zero game. Much earlier, there was a story or interview about how that developer had been a candidate for developing a new F-Zero.

Therefore, it seems like Nintendo definitely doesn't give a single **** about making any F-Zero game anytime soon.
