It really was. Not a good time. The first half of the Square Enix thread sounds a lot like 1900s Europe fighting over which sections of Africa should be taken. Geez. Sounds like a massacre.
Look bro GameFAQs banned me and I had nowhere else to go. My original reasons for coming here were nothing more than genuine.Think that was clear the moment you willingly decided to join Smashboards.
Same, honestly. Just look at my sig. That would be the single most delicious case of irony in human history (or at least gaming history). The sad thing is that I’d welcome something like that with open arms.
I think its Pray-Lean at leaste from what I remeber from Bravely
Who ever said I didn't think that would be hype?says that as if it wouldn’t be hype
I like this. It’s the first explanation that actually makes sense to me.Sorry if I’m a bit late to the party, but I think I’ve got something constructive to offer regarding Minecraft.
I’ve been playing Minecraft on and off for almost half of my life at this point (first started around 2010/11 during beta 1.8) and as an aspiring game designer I’ve thought a great deal about what Minecraft is. Many people either really like Minecraft or just don’t see the point to it, and that makes a lot of sense when you examine the primary method of engagement of unmodded Minecraft: creative expression via practical construction. If this isn’t appealing to you, Minecraft simply doesn’t offer what you want — and that is OK, and natural for any game.
Minecraft finds itself with many comparisons drawn to it. Some compare it to legos, others to art/painting, others to Terraria and other video games. People who dislike Minecraft will often like Terraria, for example, while Minecraft players will tend to like Terraria but enjoy Minecraft more so. Often these comparisons (especially to Terraria or other games in general) can devolve into mild flame wars because 1.) these comparisons are actually of activities that have fundamentally different appeal and, as a result, 2.) neither side really understands the other. Allow me to demonstrate.
In what ways is Minecraft enjoyed? From the beginning, it was simple creative expression through building. Later, when Survival mode was added, it became more structured and incentivized because the game offered reasons to build. In creative, you build not out of any form of need but out of your own inspiration or desire. In survival, the game offers incentive to build (hence day/night cycle, hunger bar, use of mob farms, inability to fly to travel quickly, etc.) and necessity thus inspires invention, without the loss of the creative element. In a sense, in Survival mode you are left to “repair Eden” by working to make the world less hostile and shaped to your own desire.
You are hard pressed to find another video game that engages the player in the same way. Most big-budget games are story based or are competitive multiplayer or are more about progression than expression. Terraria, while closer to Minecraft than many other popular games, still is primarily about progressing by collecting resources (which is the primary role of the sandbox environment; to offer resources) and beating each boss one after another, all so that afterwards you an have a shinier set of tools, a more powerful set of armor and more free set of movement options. Terraria is primarily about progression and challenge. While I would agree that Terraria does feature a creative sandbox element similar to Minecraft, the comparison only strengthens my point. Terraria, with its 2D plane, inherently deprioritizes construction for the benefit of it’s dungeon-like caves and well-constructed boss fights. The creative element remains in part as a way of giving value to the progression system of the game; you can gradually build at the start of the game, but if you make the better set of tools by beating this boss 5 times, then you can get the hover boots and gather resources to finish your base twice as quickly!
I find your critique of Minecraft in comparison to irl art particularly interesting, as it is one I haven’t heard before. I’m no artist myself, so pardon my ignorance on that front, but I would venture to guess that the reason why you paint or draw (or whatever the proper term is) doesn’t align with the features of Minecraft’s gameplay. Because Minecraft, while being a creatively fueled game, isn’t about the artistic imagining of a carefully drawn character, or the painting of an epic narrative set piece. Minecraft, creatively, is an experience confined to the player’s personal world, which I imagine would be unappealing to the artistic type who wants to have a more flexible medium, or wants to use their art for profile pictures, narrative illustrations, ideological commentary, etc. But what Minecraft offers, in survival mode especially, is an experience of taking the world around you and transforming it. Making it suitable to you, and making it yours. Shaping it to your own desire, which is not only a creative act (though, as previously established, falls short of free reign creativity) but is also mentally a therapeutic effort.
In the end, Minecraft offers something in a way that no other game does. But like any game, whether or not the experience it offers is worthwhile is entirely dependent on each individual’s perspective.
You mean UmbreonI really want a Poison-type Eeveelution, it feels long overdue. I know Espeon has those weird Pokédex descriptions about being venomous, but that’s no excuse.

Also I have a lot of respect for DaybreakHorizon since he also stood for us even when he is a Sora fan. Honestly though, I would love Sora in the game as well. Most of the start of the thread was pretty much a civil war between pretty much everyone, I arrived mid December and we used to have some pretty awful arguments against Erdrick. You know anime swordsman, right issues being a pain in the ***, Sugiyama, and so on. I actually appreciate @Luigi The President since she actually standed for us a lot of the times.
Hopefully I never have to pay for online I already own ever again.Hoo boy, guess paid online is going to be investigated by the UK government. Yes, it also includes the Switch online service...

The fact that "standing for us" is a needed action at all speaks volumes about the Smash speculation community. Also I have a lot of respect for DaybreakHorizon since he also stood for us even when he is a Sora fan. Honestly though, I would love Sora in the game as well.

I know we want to gravitate to the gaming related things, but we need this quote for context:Hoo boy, guess paid online is going to be investigated by the UK government. Yes, it also includes the Switch online service...

There is far, far more at stake in all the other subjects of this investigation and the gaming services were kind of added as a "yeah and that too, sure" sort of thing. The investigation into online gaming is part of a wider super-complaint that also looks at mobile contracts, broadband, anti-virus software, savings, insurance and mortgages.
I've done that twice in the last eight months. If I needed a house, would you let me in?
Man, I'd be pretty hyped if I didn't quite Go the week it came out.By the way. Looks like something really has leaked, and it's for Pokemon GO, but if you don't like this, then it's not looking good at all. It's actually just some text, but I'm unsure about this. What do you think of this?
There was a problem fetching the tweet

When I go online, there's like a 50/50 chance that someone will call me Michele, one L, or MicheLLe.
