Personally I don't think that a Joker backstory, let alone a sympathetic one, is a good idea. He's always been interesting for having a mysterious, inscrutable background, along with being unsympathetic and just plain evil. Because the standard is for villains to be sympathetic or have a tragic backstory, so Joker stands out for just being malevolent and twisted for reasons that aren't explained.

Hurrah yet again another media of fiction that gets demysteryified when its not needed.

Because not knowing what Joker's actual origin is what makes it scarier as with the xenomorphs.

Actually we do know the Joker's back story. Joker's original backstory is that he was a failed comedian forced into crime as The Red Hood to support his wife. Then Batman caused him to fall into a vat of acid which is how we got the Joker we love. Not really a "mystery" at all. People just don't pay attention to anything besides The Dark Knight apparently. This is more of a realistic scenario, obviously.

Joker hasn't been a mystery since the 50's. The only Joker that ever was a mystery was Heath Ledger's and that was because his "character" was more of an idea. What if there was someone who just wanted to watch the world burn for no reason?

It would be different if this were a lead up to a possible Batman movie, where as we would have to believe that the Joker is just psychotic for the sake of it. This isn't. This is a new view asking the question "what would have to happen to cause a person to become The Joker?" And it looks like it's doing a damn good job.

Joker's Origin has always been a sympathetic one. That isn't changing in this movie. It's just more down to earth.

I've been working on a rivals list for Smash (ala Street Fighter or PS All-Stars). I would love it if Smash adopted elements from All-Stars arcade mode (intro, rival battle, and ending cut-scenes). That would probably never happen, but either way I want to share my rivals list (subject to change depending on the DLC). My one rule is characters from the same franchise can't rival each other.
