What do you think of the Starlink update shown in the Direct?
It looks promising for me.

I like it. StarLink will most likely be my next single player experience once done with Okami HD.

The idea of being someone other than Fox and with their own quirks and abilities is amazing. Nintendo need to let Ubisoft do the next Star Fox. Then again they only need to keep Miyamoto 50000 miles away from the series.

That said, female player character in Three Houses' outfit looks dumb and doesn't even work in the fanservice department.

The colour scheme doesn't even align the actual outfit or leggings properly.

It makes the leggings stand out unnecessarily and looks awkward.

If Nintendo gonna pander to my horny butt they gotta do it proper. With good colour scheme integrity.

Since we're talking Paper Mario, let me throw my two cents in:

Modern Paper Mario's problems started with Super Paper Mario, not Sticker Star, and neither are fun to play. Color Splash is better than both.

Tanabe also has more to do with the issues with the series than Miyamoto.

Edit: Also, the downfall is significantly overstated, its not like Chibi Robo with it's quality drop.

The story, writing, and the soundtrack are the only redeeming qualities of the game for me. While, yes, the "combat" does mean something, I can only get so much enjoyment over bonking an enemy for the 1000th time. That's why I hesitate calling Super good, because, it's just isn't fun after a while imo.

Don't get me wrong, I also think it fails in the department of a platformer and action RPG and doesn't even come close to the integrity of the originals. There are a lot of things to fix.

The thing is though, that unlike Sticker Star and Colour Splash, it's problems only inhibits it's pacing and aren't... well... infuriating for the lack of a better word.

Because when you look at Color Splash and it's "combat" and "bosses" by comparison, I just see no reason to give it the benefit of any basic indulgence. That game features both pacing issues in world/combat AND annoyances such as level resets with a lacking tutorial (hotel level) and instant-kill attacks from bosses that can only be combated with a trial-and-error one-time-use item you find somewhere... or don't.

I don't like how controversial Fire Emblem has gotten.

The gameplay is amazing and every game has a decent amount of well written characters.

But every time it comes up, I have to defend the "Waifu-aspect" against someone...

The question is simple yet confronting: would you rather look at an atractive girl or an ugly girl.
Yes, in some instances there are extremes, but let's be real. Look at anime, at female super heroes or even at actresses cast in more "serious" media.
No I'm not saying that the sexualised designs in FE are good. I'm saying that the series doesn't warrant the extreme negative response it's been getting.
An important reason why FE stands out so much is because every game has a enormous cast do if the relative amount of "sexy" characters stays the same you're gonna have multiple "offenders" per game.
And let's be realer. It's not Just the women in FE, the men are all impossibly handsome too. Again, that doesn't make it right. I Just want to point out that FE design isn't sexist, it's Just sexual.

And yes, the creators know damn well what they're doing. Look at Fates: two paths and each path has exactly 2 overly busty female units as exclusives.

Now I will admit I do enjoy having good looking women in my game. I don't have sexual fantasies about them though. That's actually a VERY small part of the fanbase.

I haven't seen anyone here who criticized the sexuality of the franchise mention sexism. If anything the fact that the men also are given fanservicey things such as the male dark mage outfit in Fates is a good thing as it's at least somewhat equal, not to mention in the cases of Charlotte and Tharja the outfits make sense, Charlotte's a gold digger trying to use her looks to get a rich guy and Tharja's outfit is similar to actual clothes used to resist intense hest in deserts. But hey, people hate Fire Emblem because it's more successful than whatever franchise that flopped and has more Smash characters than whatever their favourite franchise is.

Yeah. Then again, I'm a JRPG fan and my tolerance level for fan-service is generally high.

I don't mind it as long as character that gives it has consent and it's at least a bit tasteful/logical. And don't try hiding it as plot points, I swear I respect it more when developers are open about it.

Yeah that last part is a bit of a pet peeve of mine too. There's no reason to excuse their character designs behind bs, because it's obviously not a sin to have a sexuality to begin with.
