Trouble with School?

Ever since I started this year, things have just seemed... Well, hard. I'm doing worse in school than I usually do, mainly because things just seem harder to grasp now, for some reason. I find that as hard as I try, I can't really pay attention. I focus, then in twenty or so minutes, I realize that I've been day dreaming. I got a bunch of lower end Bs and a few mid to high As last grading period, which, honestly, is pretty bad for me. Do I have some kind of a learning disability that just hasn't shown itself until lately? What's wrong?

ADD.

On a serious note though, who knows? Maybe its the material that you're learning at the moment, maybe its some other factor that you can't put your finger on right now. To be honest though, just try your best to work harder at it.

It just seems like whenever I work and study, I always forget something, or I'm doing something wrong. It seems like there's always that extra little rule I forgot here, or there.

Hmm... oddly enough i've been in this same situation myself, in my case it was due to long boring lectures that my teacher used to recite which would eventually make me fall asleep and I was beginning to slip a blit on my grades, luckily enough, I found out my problem and I began to focus on my material which was more important than my day-dreaming.

Whatever you do, don't give up, you'll eventually be able to pintpoint your wrong habit.

Well I really don't know what to tell you. Ask someone who might know.

Ask a doctor or something. Either you do have a learning disability or maybe you have some sort of psychological thing affecitng you. Or maybe school is in fact tougher this year. I don't know what it is.

I think you should provide an incentive for yourself. If low Bs and low As are bad for you, you've probably been able to retain information without much effort. An incentive will give you a reason to pay attention

However, if you're a sophomore in high school or lower, I really wouldn't worry, because most of the sending your transcript to colleges stuff doesn't happen until you're a junior at least. That doesn't mean, that you shouldn't try. And the reason for that would be the standardized tests. If you've gotten almost perfect grades until now, I'm assuming that you've taken some high level classes. The high level questions (in math mostly) separates the men from the boys, the future Harvard grads to the future Burger King worker for life.

Do you lack the motivation?
How hard are you trying to focus?
I'm not sure about motivation... But the thing is, I'm not sure what to focus on some of the time. Sometimes I think I understand it, walk in and bomb the test. My only motivation is that I want decent money when I'm done with college. I think my problem might be that I'm sick and tired of High School, and I'm ready to move on and start actually doing something.

Isn't your transcript all of your year's GPA combined?

Yeah so you should work hard for all of your years there.

I certainly did, although come junior and senior year, I had even MORE motivation to work harder, because I knew that college was just around the corner. While some people slacked off during senior year, I still took 4 APs and got straight As and a 4.5 GPA that year...

Even though it didn't really "count" and colleges wouldn't really see it I don't think. I guess I did it more to prove to myself that I could.

I should warn you, you better not screw up, especially if you are in your senior year of high school, I assume a high salary would be your motivation so focus on that, seriously though, if you want to get into the best colleges around, it's best that you do your best to reflect what you've done and therefore more likely to get in a college you want which will eventually get you the money you so desire to make.

That is true.

But getting into college really comes down to what courses you take (As in AP, normal. or Remedial). Then they look at your GPA by year. This really makes it so that, though if you have a abmysally low GPA it will be a no, as long as you preformed well in your Senior and Junior years (and sometimes Sophmore. Rarely freshman), you should be fine.

That stinks, man. I personally space out when work is mainly review, but I'm twards the upper end of the grade curve myself. Do your teachers just ramble on and on on things that are really boring and that is what makes you loose attention or has some sort of illness developed? Are you stressed outside of school and use the break you get in class for release? I really don't know; I'm not a doctor nor have I stayed at a Holdiay Inn express.

But when college starts, it's buckle up on the studying or you are screwed because college is the start of your future. I know because I am a hardworking freshman in school, who has barely any homework, because I'm in special education college classes. (Don't talk about my disability. That's a warning!) BTW, I nearly fell asleep in class several times this year and I have to go through the embrassament of standing in class while class is going on. I guess some classes bore me, but I work myself hard in school because it is worth it.

I had the same problem, well I excelled in school up to about 4rd grade, then it was all down hill from there. It took me so much longer to grasp concepts than the other students it seemed. I had to go through all kinds of extra tutoring and learning centers and sometimes just get bumped into the special ed or end up having to go to summer school. I had such trouble remembering information, I think part of the problem was that I started to expect failure out of myself. I started to get really stressed because I was afraid people would think I was really dumb or something when they realized how hard it was for me to learn something. And no this story doesn't end in me picking myself up and proudly getting that A and restoring my confidence. I crashed and burned in college. They don't have the type of learning help that I need I found out, though I did try with many different tutors. So I ended up going military instead and I did really well there. But now that I'm out I am thinking of giving college classes another try, though I will take it very slow. To this day I still fear my friends finding out how learning inept I really am.

jolly old england. hohoho.
I always had the same problems as you up to A levels. For me, it was a mixture of disliking the subjects, laziness, bad teachers and a hatred for rote learning. The only thing that worked for me was choosing subjects I genuinely enjoyed. Otherwise, you are always going to have motivation problems and it won't end nice when you go to college and there's no one to tell you to work.

Assuming you don't have an attention problem, you are just gonna have to buckle down and do the work.

Oh, Problems?
Yeah, everybody has. I got problems with concentration, 1,2,3 notes... But... It does not matter! :-)
I like Chemistry, Math, English, WOS*, WOK*, Biology, Physic... Too bad I have to learn other subjects ><
Sadly, I got bad Math, English, WOS, Biology, Physic notes. Today, I didn't make 7/10 tasks on math test!
Because... I was too slow. Time out! Math is lovable, and I want to have good notes.

*You don't know, what it is, yeah?

Good college =~= high salary
My friend goes to NYU and I go to CPCC, we both are studying the same thing and sometimes he even ask me for help. But the sad truth is the fact he goes to NYU looks better on a resume, so he will make more money then me even though they teach the SAME exact thing. @ the topic
I have dyslexia and sometimes its hard for me to focus, but when I started doing sports. It gave me something to work hard for. Maybe you gotta find some motivation and you will work hard.

I'm doing badly in school this year. 8th grade is horrible, the worst year I have ever had. There is so much pressure. I on;y got an 86.85 average. i've never gotten that low, ever. It's because I am constantly slacking off. I really don't try this year at all. I failed in chorus of all things. My ****** teacher sas that I sit in her classroom and do nothing instead of singing, but I have asked every kid in my class if I do as evidence, and most of them have said that I am the most participative. I sang the highest note I ever had the other day, and I mean like a super high soprano note. I'm a 134 year old guy. It was creepy.

Sometimes I get bored in class but I remind myself it's all worth it in the end when you're graduating a good college and getting a high paying job in the future.

are you serious, your complaining about B's, well I am glad if I get all B's, I am ok with getting a C.
But try some new study skills, it always works for me. Its not a learning disability, you just need better explanation of stuff, when you get in higher grades, they don't break it down as often

If you want to get over this. Go to youtube, look at gradual report, look at the vid about distraction
Or you could ease up on everything and take it easy on yourself....
Your choice :)
