i know all of the employees at my local gamestop. which is the main reason im worrying so much about this. today i went in with a buddy of mine. we were curious about the rock band bundle for the wii. after talking to them about it for a while and standing in the back looking at it together we preceded to leave the store. as we were pulling out of the parking lot one of the employees walks out of the store and asks us if we got rock band. i said "what?" and he proceeded to tell us that he found an opened bundle of rock band for the wii with the game missing. i told him i new nothing about it and we went on our way. on the way home my friend pulls out the stolen game from his pocket. i didnt know what to do. i wanted to take him back and give the game back but i didnt want him to get into any trouble. i ended up calling the store and attempting to clear my name with a bunch of bull. does anyone know what, if anything, will come of this? im not particularly worried except for the fact that in the phone call he said the reason he came to the car was "to give me a chance to get out of it".

i would call the store, tell them that your friend stole the game and tell your friend to give to back to the store . they might press charges, the most important thing is to clear your name.

i dont think i can be a rat. although i definitely made it know to my friend that this was not cool. he said that if they contacted me in regards to it then he would fess up. it is very important that my name be cleared but i dont think anything will really come of this. it may be wishful thinking but, i mean the game was stolen=fact, my friend stole the game=probable but not fact. i dont know if they are really gonna pursue this.

I believe the best solution in this case would be just to relax, and go with the flow.
Trust me, the problem will solve itself in a few days. You'll be as carefree as ever.

First off, how old are you?
Seventeen and you can get charged as an adult, which they always will because well, they always do. Even as a minor your talking minimum $100 fine, possible community service, and of course your parents getting that phone call. "Hey mam, 'random kids name' is here at the police station."
I used to steal stuff a lot when I was 15-16, I was an idiot, I got caught, end of story. But they WILL look into it, especially if they know you. You can get implicated in it, and yes you get pretty much the same charges.

Sure there is the chance that absolutely nothing will come of it, or you could just get your name cleared now.

my dad is a cop, so im good on laws. get your name cleared asap. dont worry about ratting on your friend. I dont consider someone who does stupid @#$@ like that a friend. I guarantee you if he gets busted, he wil likely take you down with him, as an accessory to the crime. then what?

Do what the guy above me said & try to stay calm about it.
Keep yourself out of trouble,it's not worth getting into I'm sure.I wouldn't even call your friend a friend for pulling something stupid like that off either.

once they are able to prove it.

how are they gonna prove it, i there are no cameras that im aware of in the store and as i mentioned earlier the fact that my friend stole the game is probable to them not fact. i dont know to much about the law but i guess that gives them the right to contact the police and have my car and house searched but im fine with that because i dont have the game. and to go that far for a $50 game seems over the top.

Even if the odds are 1 in 100 that they catch you, then you need to rat out your friend if not getting caught is worth 5,000 dollars to you, which trust me, it is. Ditch your friend. Look out for number one.

How do you play rock Band without the peripherals? Contrary to popular belief, banging your head against the TV screen and yelling loudly doesn't work.

Find new friends. Preferably ones that are able to steal the whole deal, not just the game. Now that's a friend.

All I am saying is if they do, you are in deep ****.
$50 game or not, shoplifting is against the law and most judges don't give you just a slap on the wrist for it.

No cameras that you're aware of =/= there are no cameras.
are you sure.....? for one, they could have closed circuit cameras so that you "aren't" aware of them actually being in there, second, if there was a round mirror in the corner of the store then guess what..? you were being watched.

as for you ratting on your friend, don't worry about him, just worry about yourself, because if you do worry about ratting him out, in the end he's going to want to take you down with him and that wouldn't be the best thing to happen now would it?

You're gonna go to hell if you don't fess up.

...

But seriously. You might, "be a rat?" Are you kidding me? Don't be stupid. This isn't the kid that stole a cookie from the kitchen table. This is a 50 dollar GAME.

just an update on the situation. my friend, he is still my friend, did the dumbest thing possible today(two days after the incident). he took the game to walmart and exchanged it for another game that he wanted. at first i thought this might not be a bad idea untill i found out that he had to show walmart his id in order to trade in the game. now the stolen game is at walmart with his id attached to it. if eb games checks with wal mart he is screwed, if they dont he isnt i guess. what do you guys think are the chances? what about my situation now?

You're friend might be cool but he's stupid. Tell him you're never gonna talk to him unless he does something about it.

hmm. you firend indeed is really stupid, why in the hell is he exchanging it now? why did he steal in the first place just so he can exchange it? I just don't get some people.

anyway I doubt Gamestop will go to such length's just to track down a $50 dollar game, unless of course it's in the same area where the incident happen so I guess... but seeing his ID attached to the game better amke him feel uneasy since it's like STOLEN.

as for you, don't worry about it, as long as his ID is attached to the stolen game, it really isn't your problem anymore, so ease up.

What you should have done was man up and turn him in.

If you're willing to risk getting screwed and getting a criminal record because your friend is an idiot, you need to re-evaluate your priorities. Not wanting to be a rat is one thing, but larceny and petty theft are on a different level. Don't put yourself in a position to take a fall for something you didn't do (though at this point, by not turning him in earlier, you are also technically part of it and enabled him).

Your friends an idiot. And you're being even more of one by using the 'I don't want to be the tattle-tale!' excuse. Grow up, this isn't first grade.

Stealing is wrong. Report his sorry ***.

Have fun with the charges once they are able to prove it.

You're an accessory.
No he's not. He had no idea what happened. His friend acted totally independent of him.
Now the fact that you do know now and called back and didnt tell them the truth, means your guilty of omission, which makes you a principal not an accessory. Either way its jail time, so yeah have fun with that.

A principal? I had one of those in high school! I knew I should have turned him in.

He drove him away after realizing he stole the game.

They'll still consider him an accessory.

Don't be a moron! If the your "friend" is robbing Gamestops, he's obviously too dumb to be a real "friend". Tell the people at Gamestop, you might be able to resolve it outside of the law. You could be looked at suspiciously by all the guys who work there from now on if you let this pass. You have a good reputation, why let someone ruin it? Mic is right too, I've been sitting in restaurants, and have absentmindedly found hidden cameras.

Pretty much this will set the tone for the rest of your life. Either you report him anonymously so he gets busted, or you live with it and have more friends who break laws (and the laws they break will grow and grow). All you are doing is making yourself into that friend that would do anything for another friend, but in the bad sense.

Look, call EB tell them someone you know sold a stolen game to Wal-Mart (call from a pay phone even), then call Wal-mart and tell them the situation, the name date and time, be prepared for the consequences.

You won't get caught on your own--they are both huge corporations who don't care about a little bit, but it's totally principle. If you can help him get away with something as ****ty as he did now, it's only a matter of time before you're driving the White Bronco.

No he said while driving he whipped the game out, not that he was his getaway car(knowingly). It doesn't matter a principal and accessory are so close most are just tried for accessory.

That pretty much means he not only knew about it, but made a conscious decision not to turn around.
