I'm liking his Hydro Pump tech. My game can definitely benefit from his edge guarding techniques with it.
Yeah it seems quite handy- I have a hunch that it can even be useful onstage too (possibly catching a short hop and putting your opponent in a terrible position), though I don't have the game yet to test it out.

Here are some videos of me showcasing some of Greninja's abilities.

Most of the videos showcase at least one of Greninja's techniques and they are interesting to watch if you want to know how to perform said techniques. As for skill level showcased in the videos, take into account all of those replays are from friday/saturday night so I hadn't had much practice yet except for the 3 times I went to my friend's house. I have more replays from yesterday I will upload soon. I wasn't able to play on Sunday (except with some friends in which I normally pick other character's to learn them).

Currently today I feel I am much more skilled than I was 3-4 days ago (even though it sounds stupid it's about 3 times the gametime!). I have more replays from yesterday I will upload soon. I wasn't able to play on Sunday (except with some friends in which I normally pick other character's to learn them).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFtkd73NvNw&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

Me vs Sonic. There's a clear demonstration of Up-Air Spike into Up-Smash kill combo.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_PABv8AOWI&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

Me vs Yoshi. The video shows how kill any Yoshi that likes to spam Down-B.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqwIybufEA8&index=4&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

Me vs ZSS. I am able to hit her with both hits of Up-B and kill her through the horizontal blastzone with Up-B pretty good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5Vw89gOyuY&index=5&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

Me vs Fox, nothing really special.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Qna0a7MP3s&index=6&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

Me vs Greninja. There's a pretty funny moment where I gimp his Up-B with my own.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw3gS8if4VA&index=7&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

Me vs Pac-Man.

IMPORTANT. I am able to cancel his B-Air knockback and hitstun with a Shadow Sneak. I have tried to replicate this but have been unable to. But there is a way to sort of cancel knockback and hitstun with Shadow Sneak.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhgGqrjadf0&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g&index=8
Me vs Little Mac. This video shows why it's important to remain unpredictable. I am able to tell that this Little Mac just spams air dodge all the time in the first 12 seconds of the match. I bait an airdodge out of him once I see him use his second jump and land a free F-Smash for a kill.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6uEjQR2FC-s&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g&index=12

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1X_0lvAcPvI&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g&index=10

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ul_R0os45jU&index=11&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zn65W-N6_I&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g&index=9

Me vs a Robin. All 4 games are against the same person. These videos showcase a small bit how after you can tell when someone is about to spam projectiles you can start punishing with Shadow Sneak pretty effectively.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhfHKNY8300&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g&index=13

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nf9pgnOCh24&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g&index=14

Me vs Link followed by another game of me vs Little Mac. (Different players).

A cookie cutter combo to kill any character with bad recovery (Link, Little Mac, etc) Is just Back-Throw then bait out their second jump and then just B-Air them. Use Up-B to gimp if needed but most of the time you won't even need that.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjJ1aH4aXtk&index=15&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

Me vs Yoshi. This Yoshi has pretty good combos and approaches. Unfortunately he doesn't know how to adapt. I struggled a lot the first match (which is this one) to understand how to fight him but I quickly learned he liked to spam Down-B as soon as I threw him. I tried gimping him early but failed and once he was at high % I decided to purposely not punish his Down-B so that he wouldn't stop using it and I could get a very early kill on his second stock by gimping his Down-B.

We played around 5 games him as Yoshi (and about 5 more him as other characters earlier), I won all 5 and even 2 stocked him the last 2 matches because of his inability to adapt and change. Once I figured him out and what his patterns were I could counter him pretty easily.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yacm8H0n5v4&index=16&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

Me vs Peach. The Peach is pretty bad but the video showcases that Up-B can kill from the top.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBevmnU70_o&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g&index=17

Me vs Bowser. Another person who I couldn't get the hang of fighting at the start. He liked to just spam Up-B and Down-Smash and I was still unaware of how fast and how long those 2 moves are. At the very end you can see Up-B screw his recovery and allow me to get a free kill. We played a second game in which I started to catch up to Bowser's Up-B and Down-Smash properties and punished him almost every time. He ragequit after I 2 stocked him the 2nd game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCw2od8zCuM&index=18&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

Me vs Link. Just like last video, this one also shows how Up-B can set up your opponent to a situation where all he can do is fall on the edge/stage and you basically get a free kill. In this video you can also see instances of what I called in my thread as "Perfect Shadow Sneaking". I purposely use Shadow Sneak to avoid/dodge his attacks while punishing them instantly too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkthJYOCaYI&index=19&list=UUttG16jT_EvO9Z2LbBXvp_g

Me vs Duck Hunt. This game had a lot of delay which didn't allow me to do anything right. You can see Up-B kill from the top though.

Here are some videos of me playing some pretty nice matches against a Pit player named Sharkz. These were the only replays I saved as Greninja (also used Sonic against him). Any advice/tips would be appreciated :o

Match 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVdjpIEoYbw&list=UUj8X_wndxsx653SI6T4DGyQ
Match 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f06RUl9GOHA&index=3&list=UUj8X_wndxsx653SI6T4DGyQ
Match 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR0l7XBOJfs&list=UUj8X_wndxsx653SI6T4DGyQ&index=2
Match 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlG2UTXUrvg&index=1&list=UUj8X_wndxsx653SI6T4DGyQ (Uair spike -> Usmash KO!)

Also, sorry for the quality. Hopefully it's not too difficult to see what's going on :<

Oohhhhh. Woooow. I really need to try and learn the instant teleport from shadow sneak.
Although I mostly play Robin, I have greater success as Greninja in my time with him. As for now I only have one recorded match with Greninja.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRfqpaUKdQs

I tried my best with the quality.
Ooh. That's some really nice quality, really. Nice job with editting the percentages on the sides. :0

Maybe you could try tossing a few more shurikens there instead of always going for the nair short hops. Could throw off your opponent, possibly? Also, maybe go for some up throws and utilize Greninja's uair a bit more. Greninja's aerial game is quite good.

I have a ton of videos of me playing. ._. Just gonna plop a few of the more recent ones on here... Critique would be nice

I uploaded this the other day, I realize this was probably a fake but I played a guy named Zero so I figured I'd record it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojkW57miBk4

He two stocked me the other two games we played, I feel like I got lucky this game. Though this may of been one of my best games, I was pumped up thinking I was playing a pro even though now I'm 95% sure it wasn't him.

Welp. It's been several days and nobody has posted more videos. I guess it'd be fine to double-post just go get out a notification, right?

Replays I saved from an online tourney. Placed 16th. Not bad for my first time being in anything of that matter, I guess.

Not so great with Greninja and I think I've reached a peak where I've learned all I could by myself and can't learn much more, and I need help from others to critique my skill and gameplay so I can get the show back on the road.

Tournament/Friendlies matches I had earlier today (lost, didn't beat anyone) witha Yoshi player

For Glory:

And there's plenty more where that came from, but this is all I can upload for tonight. Any help would be appreciated, as long as i helps me improve and is done from good intent.

Only watched the first video, but there's some things I can say. Don't be afraid to throw the shurikens a bit early. I see multiple times in your video that you got hit for holding the shuriken a little longer than you have to. Also, down aerial + side special is great but try not to use it all the time. You use it quite a bit during the second half and the other player catches on. Also, put some more pressure on the enemy! Greninja is one of the quicker fighters; don't let your opponnent have time to get back on their feet. You got the good idea with the grabs, but have trouble getting those to connect. I like to bait them into a shield using a shuriken and the going for a running grab.

Might watch some more when I'm not in class and try and fit in some more feedback. c:

Edit: Oh yeah. Don't wait for the opponent to come to you. Like, in the beginning of your second match, you just kinda spam a fully charged water shuriken and nothing happens. At all. Just incorporate more movement into there, as said Greninja's one of the quicker fighters. Utilize that.

Thanks for the tip, Up-Throw to Up-Air is really satisfying actually. The only reason I got for short hop air in that video because he didn't try shield-grabbing me so I felt like it was free damage. I start watching the videos here from now one so I guess I can give what little advice I can give to everyone.
Anyways here's another one I recorded (before reading your advice).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ksf4Prs1f0

Even though I find this to be an hard match to watch, wasn't doing my best for whatever reason, but it shows that using Hydro Pump alone can win you the match. I'll try to use Greninja more often, I tend to do really good with Greninja just like in Pokemon X and Y.

You really like to use that down aerial a lot. Other than that, you usually go for a dash attack. Maybe go for some more grabs?
I figured I needed some adjustments here and their. Thank you for looking into them those were some videos of when I started. Im really glad that I adjusted to that.

Got two more videos. Hurray~

Both versus a really good Rosalina player.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7lZL75n8ZQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Tcztgm_sAE

I'd really appreciate some critiques.
Only watched the first one but:

1. In 2 instances when you threw a fully charged shuriken and she absorbed it with her DownB, I felt you might have been able to punish the downB with a grab and quickly do an Uthrow > Uair juggle, works for me like a charm almost all the time when I face Rosa (gotta watch out for Luma though, do it fast and don't pummel). Instead you halted your dash the first time and went for an Utilt when you didn't need to, and the 2nd time you used jumped too high Fair and missed.

2. You sure seem to love using the Usmash, Uair, Fair, and a little bit of Nair (which could've been shieldgrabbed, but she didn't do it)... a little too much? First time you killed Rosalina, you stood still charging an Usmash hoping it would snag her, and instead of falling right to avoid it and maybe recover low or grab the ledge, she attempted to get you first with her own Fair (only to get launched by you and killed).

3. You ate quite a lot of dash attacks and ledge attacks from her and hardly stopped any of them.

4. I felt that there were somethings your opponent could've done in certain situations, but chose the wrong action action and she might've won if she didn't:
  • Trying to edgeguard you instead of taunt
  • I don't remember seeing her use a single NeutralB in that match, might've helped her a bit if she did.
  • Instead of falling into your telegraphed charging Usmash, fall rightwards and grab the ledge away from it. I personally thought falling into it was kinda dumb.
  • Not charging that Dsmash at 2:56 when you grabbed a ledge, essentially throwing out a "hope attack" like you did with your Usmash, except her hope attack didn't work
  • Shielding more of those Uairs and Usmashes you were using on her while she stood on that platform.

Well I've been meaning to do this for a while but have just been to lazy but I finally recorded some video's so I could get some advice. I played for about 3 hours with a friend who I consider better than me by a pretty good margin last night and was able to take a few games off of him. I'm still unable to beat his mains however. I also included 2 videos from a For Glory match I played 4-5 days ago. First game I get whooped, but I manage to beat him the second game.

I realize a lot of my weaknesses and am trying to improve on them. I have yet to master SHFF N-airs, and in a few of the videos you will see my struggles with it. I am wildly inconsistent off stage, this seems to often times be the difference between me beating higher skilled players most of the time. And lastly my timing is still of with shielding, I often press the button just a split second late or just forget to cancel my dash. Anyways here are the videos.

Game 1 For Glory vs Lucario:

I get stomped here, you see my issues with shielding and how wildly inconsistent my play is. I also charge quite a few Shurikens just a bit to long here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpjsRCPlpAs&list=UUnpkncpd_XAlwj7pbfXiV-g

Game 2 For Glory vs Lucario:

This video probably shows me as a player better than any of my other videos. Early in the match I continue struggling after losing the first game, but after taking the first stock I hit one of the nicest strings I've ever had. Certainly something I didn't expect myself to pull off, so I'm sure he didn't expect it either. This game shows my struggles with SHFF n-airs better than the others.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKnef49bYrs&list=UUnpkncpd_XAlwj7pbfXiV-g&index=1

Game 1 vs Samus

These games aren't in any order, but this one and the next two are not against his mains. These were however the first times I was able to beat him while he was using these characters. I was a but over reliant on u-smash this game, but it works well on Battlefield. This match also shows what I can do when I'm actually hitting my f-air which isn't often enough.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaDJlOP87FQ&list=UUnpkncpd_XAlwj7pbfXiV-g&index=3

Game 2 vs Meta Knight

This game is notable for my comeback, a little bit into the game I started telling myself to punish his specials because of the end lag and it ended up working out. I was already at 90+% after taking the first stock, and was focused on getting a quick kill on him because I knew I wouldn't survive long.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPZxO17S4o4&list=UUnpkncpd_XAlwj7pbfXiV-g&index=4

Game 3 vs Zelda

I almost didn't upload this match because it's overall not a very good one. But I save him from sd'ing at one point in the game and die myself so I figured why not.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pBfPfcHado&list=UUnpkncpd_XAlwj7pbfXiV-g&index=5

Game 4 vs Mega Man

This is the first match against his actual main that I'm showing, and it shows how much better he is when he's playing someone he's comfortable. This is actually the closest I've come to beating his Mega Man

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_2Zak3cL7M&index=6&list=UUnpkncpd_XAlwj7pbfXiV-g

Game 5 vs Diddy Kong

He played Diddy Kong in Brawl so he is just as, if not more so familiar with him than he is Mega Man. I tend to have more problems with his Diddy than I do Mega Man. This is also the closest I've come to beating his Diddy, I usually don't take a stock.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqOV07Evl08&index=7&list=UUnpkncpd_XAlwj7pbfXiV-g

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, if this is better off in it's own thread I apologize. I saw someone else had a help thread so I didn't want to make another or hijack that one.

@ Jmacz Jmacz : The two things I noticed in your first match is that you seemed to charge your shuriken a lot, and you tried using the shadow sneak more than I normally would. For me anyways, I actually do a lot of combinations of uncharged and fully-charged shurikens --- the uncharged are especially helpful in interrupting an opponent's train of thought, and when mixed up with the fully-charged shurikens can also catch an opponent off-guard (I try to keep my distance as much as possible, since a whiff up close seems to be easily punishable). I think against Lucario, uncharged shurikens can make them hesitate to charge up, which is good for helping to control the flow of the match. Also if you get the timing for releasing the shurikens down very well, you can use it to hit opponents before they land on the ground, which can also be helpful for stacking up damage. Personally I don't use the shadow sneak a lot since it seems to be fairly readable and easy for opponents to react to, but in instances like after an aerial down A, I think it's good to try and mix up when you appear, either on the close or the far side of the opponent (though I think it's more difficult to do the far side, sometimes opponents are only waiting to block the close side, I think the timing can work not too sure just a gut thought).

You also seem very keen to rush into the fights, which I'm not sure yet about Greninja, but maybe a more even mixup of hanging back and camping with shurikens could help with. There were a couple of times in the second match where you rushed in but wound up putting on the brakes, which I think opened you up to attack. In those instances, esp. against projectile characters, it might be better to jump and get out of the way than to try and stop mid-dash. I also noticed a number of attempts to rush in for the grab that wound up in whiffs, and I think doing that a lot might have been making it easier for your opponents to expect what you're trying to do. I usually like to go in for the grabs when it's a little less risky (after a fully charged shuriken, when an opponent is experiencing landing lag or is about to whiff a smash attack, after two short shurikens in a row and they expect a third shuriken, etc.), and I usually only make risky grabs to change expectations.

Also, not sure if you knew, but if you get hit with Megaman's sticky bomb, you can shield and block the explosion, it looked like when you got hit with it in your match you were trying to stick it back on Megaman, though you don't have to.

These are just my gut reactions, I'm actually not too sure if it's all great advice since I know people can wind up playing characters in different ways that are effective. Recently I've been taking a much more laid back approach to Greninja which was doing pretty well for me until I recently encountered a rushdown Greninja playstyle the other day that caught me off guard, so maybe in the long run you could be taking the right approach trying to keep the pressure on. Your aerial game looked good too from what I saw, it was fun watching your vids.

The Shurikens are something I am working on, usually I'm a bit better with timing them but I still need some work. I've been working on dashing turning and jumping then b reversing a quick shuriken but it is pretty hard to pull of on the DS. I haven't yet tried to mix that into my game because I'm just not comfortable doing them yet.

It was also a bit of a note of mine to play more aggressive as I am usually much more passive and shuriken heavy. A lot of the reason most of my approaches are grabs or dashes is because I'm still not comfortable SHFF N-airing. The stop and go strategy seems to work from time to time, but I can see how I could be over reliant on it. I also didn't know about the sticky bomb shielding, I could of sworn that I had got hit through my shield before but knowing me I probably just shielded to late.

Try short hopping nair more often. And your rolls are a little to predictable at times.
I was actually told by other Greninja players that it's not a good idea since his Nair is really easy to shieldgrab and is unsafe on block due to it, and his Bair is a better approach aerial than it (even though I didn't use it). Its best used sparingly since it's easy for good people to catch onto overused.

I'll give your tip a whirl next time anyway though, and I agree that I was rolling too much. Thanks.

At 1:48, ROB is forced to use his UpB to recover. On an Omega stage with walls on the sides, such as the one you were playing on (others are default+Omega Yoshi's Island, pictochat, Reset Bomb Forest, etc) ROB will always hug the wall to reach the edge from below. ROB cannot airdodge while using UpB. All of this put together means that Greninja gets a free Down-air spike on ROB from above. As long as you have time to run off or jump just beyond the edge of the stage before he reaches the ledge, the spike is free. His only option is to use Up-Air and Greninja's Down-Air will still connect and spike for a KO if he's at high enough percent.

At 2:28, 3:53 and other times, you try to use a deceptive Shadow-Sneak as an edgeguard. This will normally get you hit or net you no benefit at all. Shadow-Sneak is only an edgeguard if you're being super aggressive and using it while you jump offstage to chase and KO your opponent in midair. If you're onstage, your edge-guarding options should always be Water Shuriken (neutral B) or Hydro-Pump (Up B) if you're predicting that your opponent will jump over the ledge and onto the stage (as you did soon after at 2:34. You're in the habit of using Shadow-sneak as an onstage edgeguard, I recommend changing that to a habit of Shuriken and DEFINITELY Hydro Pump.

At 8:15, that was super awesome.

At 8:33, you Down-Air into the stage and land with tons of punishable lag. Greninja has the awesome ability to use Instant-Release Shadow-Sneak after landing with Down-Air to eliminate lag, and instead, come out with an immediate attack. Try it, its very simple and very effective at punishing opponents who rush in to punish your landing lag from Down-Air.

That's all I had time to watch for now, I'm about to post this video on this thread so lemme know if you watch it or wanna give feedback. You have a strong Greninja with potential.
