I mean some good tourney footage? I want to see some good stuff. Everyone seems to just do a lot of dash attacks and grabs instead of using the high level mobility.
Yeah. There's definitely a lot more ways to approach than dash attacks and grabs.

I don't know if I have any thing /really/ good saved though. Like I said, I've been kinda slacking on saving things.

Still need a bit more time to get used to the Pro controller I got, but, I gotta say, it's pretty decent.

Have a video of me beating up a helpless CPU because I have a friend that likes Lucina, so I recorded myself beating her up in less than 20 seconds.

This entire post is basically a waste of your time. Seriously. The video isn't spectacular. It's against a CPU for Christ's sake.

I don't even get why I am bothering to post it here but whatever. It has Greninja in it so might as well?

I'll post nice videos one daaaay

Playing Greninja has been a lot harder for me recently and I don't feel as confident in my skills with him as before since the Wii u ver. came, and now I feel like I've reached a brick wall where I'm gonna quit improving until I come to get some advice. There's a tournament happening near me soon and I still wanna use Greninja, but I don't think i'm in shape yet for it and got a ways to go. Maybe I've been playing Pac-Man :4pacman: a little too much recently haha.. So any feedback and help would be helpful.

Nothing Greninja specific, but just in general:

You need to be moving around a lot more. Part of Greninja's identity is being very slippery. He's low to the ground, small, fast, and without a lot of traction. This makes for a target that's very hard to hit when moving about the stage. Especially in that match with ZSS you were very static, staying in one place throwing Shurikens and throwing out a hitbox when she came to you. It's smart to do that every once in a while, but it's good to approach on your own as well. You missed a lot of punishment windows this way as you were too far away from her after she whiffed a side-b or a grab. As Greninja you have one of the best projectiles in the game. Use it as a tool, creeping closer while throwing it out to either land a jab or sliding USmash during the brief hitstun/shield.

Bet this one's new: Greninja vs Mii Gunner

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cqUurvh0bM
That was a good first stock.

Honestly, against zoners, I just run up and shield to wade through their projectiles. I don't immediately attack, but I like to just hang around in their personal space as long as I can, occasionally throwing out ftilts, multi jabs, or dtilts. I do this just to watch how they respond to someone being up close to them.

If they roll or spot dodge alot (usually the case with zoners, since they generally have a poor footsie game), I use jabs, u tilts, dsmashes and usmashes (the last two for punishing rolls). After I got enough damage on them, I'll start trying to do a little zoning of my own with a fully charged water shuriken (the priority on this move is pretty good) to get additional damage and pester them into coming after me.

Once they start charging me with dash attacks, run up grabs, and aggressive rolls (seriously), I switch to using shield and substitute. I also like to activate shadow sneak and make it look like I'm walking away in the other direction, only to teleport and KO them.

On a side note, Greninja's aerial approaches are kind of poor due to their landing lag and startup (doesn't help either that his short hop is so freakin high). Although there may be some potential in well spaced back airs for approaching.

Anyway, hoped this helped somebody!

Look at this superb use of substitute.
I'm not exactly sure who I was fighting, I think it was one of the guys from our social thread.
Anyway, they used dair to bounce off the substitute doll, and then stringed that into an up air. Very cool.

Meh, he rolls around unnecessarily. Clearly a very casual player, as he doesn't seem to recognize situations when he can simply dash out of shield or act out of shield in general (or doesn't know how to).
Yeah it is clear they are a noob. I just saw some good use of the shuriken.

Yeah but if you want to see good application of shuriken, Bajisci is the one to watch (although I don't think he has any videos for the Wii U version yet).

Yeah those reversed shurikens were awesome. I felt like he couldve won by trying different strategies and using shadow sneak and F-tilt more.

My mom's confiscated my Wii U and 3DS and I'm bored to death right now :glare:. Until I get it back, I Can't play the game or practice anything and I've got little to do right now while I'm in school, so I thought I may as well repost some of my videos and look for some advice/critique. While I wait to get my game back, can somebody look at these videos for me and give me some pointers?

From the last times I've played Greninja, I feel like I'm being predictable and I'm not improving much at all. These are the same videos I uploaded earlier and I did get one piece advice from that one guy (who told me I should use more mobility and that I missed some punish opportunities), but I don't think that's the main reason I'm losing and because my Wii U is gone, I can't really upload anything new right now. Plus there's a tournament near me in two days and just in case I get to go, think I serously need some pointers before I do.

Only watched the Mario and ZSS vids but whoever told you that you need to work on your mobility is spot on. You stand around too much waiting on your opponent. Greninja is a pretty reactionary character but he conditions characters really well through his mobility and the amount of mixup potential he has.

There's also a lack of fluidity in your playstyle. There were a lot of times where you missed easy punishes because of what seems like a lack of comfort using some moves. You could try setting a small lv9 cpu (like Pikachu or Jigglypuff) to run and work on trying to land hits on them consistently. That should help considerably.

The mobility part, got it. The fluidity part on my presumed lack of comfort using some moves? Could you be a little more specific on what moves exactly did I neglect?

I've watched the Mario one so far and you seemed to be playing well for the most part. Not many noteable mistakes. However, maybe you could use the Shuriken and d-air a bit less since they have a fair amount of ending lag now. I noticed that Mario punished you after these moves the most. Down throw seems to be inferior to U-throw for combos and F-throw for spacing, so I would advise against that move as well. I guess more running around and jumping would be more helpful as Coffee said, but it seems that getting punished on unsafe moves might be your main problem. Hope this helps. :)

Great video, that was some of the best Greninja play I`ve ever seen and definitely the best post patch. But unfortunately it also shows us just how much Greninja has to outplay the opponent to get kills now. Because of the Water Shuriken lag, it gets outspammed by other projectile characters with no other good way to approach. And even after managing to build up %, it has problems ending the stock because every one of its best kill moves was nerfed.
I hope Sakurai realizes this and decides to rebuff Greninja again in the next patch.

Villager vs Greninja (pretty solid too) :

Also, part 2 of a session I posted earlier - another match of the same Captain Falcon as before vs the same Greninja (where Captain Falcon had trouble against the better player - the greninja - but learning is important! :) )

I'm quite surprised the dair actually hit that often. One issue I see with the Greninja other than the frequent dairs is the usage of FH way more often than SH. FH anything is a lot more telegraphed than a SH. I feel the Villager could've punished him a lot more than he did.

The great thing about friendlies is you can try out crazy stuff and see how far you can take it, how you can mesh it into your playstyle, and when you've crossed the line and gone too far.

Jagger, the greninja player, is definitely a smart enough player who knows not to overuse things if he can't get away with it. But he definitely goes for it if he thinks he'll safely get away with it. It's a calculation of risk-v-reward. It's something that definitely doesn't work against some players, but if you find your opponent playing a certain way or leaving themselves open, then punishing them for that is as smart a decision as any.

Thus the spotlight is on the Villager player, and how they can learn to deal with these kinds of plays by Greninja players. Friendlies with strangers are very interesting, it's great seeing two strangers go up against each other and see them adapt as they continue fighting and learning how to deal with a character, playstyle, tactic, and/or strategy.

That's true enough. I just found it very odd at a glance though it does make sense to do so in relation to the opponent having any sort of retaliation or not (which Villager didn't have enough of).

Here's a vid of me doing a little string and then killing with a mid air shadow sneak. They're pretty hard to land but awesome when you get it off
