How upset was GC guy after this Melee turnout? lol
Yeah, Melee (Smash in general I think) isn't the main contributor to his numbers - Halo is. Him having 30-40 people fewer than expected for Melee isn't too big a deal since he gets his main attention from FPS players.

Am I the only person looking at this thread that knows french? Good to know in case I ever feel like talking **** lol

Et Eikelmann, je suis un américain qui n'est pas comme ça :)

no, but talkng **** in another language expecting no one else to understand defeats the purpose anyway. Unless they just get mad cuz they dont understand.

30-40 ppl diff is alot tho.

potential:

400 venue@ the cheaper melee only 10
200 teams assuming everyone enters
600 singles

man son
but yea probably no big deal

I was just curious, pocky could have just looked somewhere online since it was ambiguous if he understood the sentence or not.

Either way it doesn't matter, it's 2 am and I'm bored lol

yea whats upon the full results, I don't think gc dude is posting a results thread or anything
how are all of you too dumb to acknowledge that aib is way better than swf? results are already uploaded on there with full bracket image and links to player profiles. swf is obsolete. quit playin

it took a while for them to upload the results. They made those posts when there were no results up on aib

I tihnk what hes trying to say is that you dont need to ask for results, just check aib until theyre up because full results are going to be on their first.

I always forget to check AIB because I dont use it as frequently. because while it may be better in terms of layout and features, boards suck ***

I like SWF way better because of the ppl and the boards. More melee knowledge goes through SWF than AIB on any given day of the week.

a bunch of useless knowledge. experience is more useful than any amount of obscure data knowledge. take me vs toobusytocare

hes a freak and knows everything about both games framewise
he still gets his *** beat by me

pouring over posts isnt useful
also the amount of organized smash theory discussion on aib is ridiculous

2b2c knows frames for melee?

Also, implementation vs statistical data are different yes. The second is most important, but for somebody who doesnt know as much about the game as you do, information its much appreciated.

AIb melee organized smash theory-arent most of those threads OP just taken from swf?

Its not entirely useless though, for those like me, who had virtually no tournament scene for years thats really the only way to get better.

just start up a smash scene with yourself, someone from your town and 2 or 3 from the next town over

even in really small groups you can get pretty good this way

then travel to the big tournaments

unfortunately for bend, OR, the next town over (besides redmond) is 20 miles away and is pretty much a tourist town of overpriced sandwich boutiques and "american heritage" art galleries.

A few things..
1 - I only post brackets on AiB because its 1000000 times easier... I upload tio and it does the rest.

2 - Smash and Halo are about equal for me. But I can charge a much higher entry fee for Halo and NO ONE *****es. So I only need about 2/3 as many Halo ppl to equal my Smash.
Both are about equal though.

3 - I was disappointed at the Melee scene... it just sort of proves that Melee is dead. If people are not going to show up for a tournament that is well run (though I didnt run anything for Melee personally this time since it was so small) and everyone knows will be well run, then why bother doing it at all anymore?
Thus the TourneyPlay Gaming League is not likely to have Melee at it. Its a waste of my time to do anything Melee related.
Washington has proven that, SoCal has proven that.
Whatever reason, and we know its not cost, because Pound was significantly more then TP5, Melee wont show up except in rare and extreme cases like Pound and Genesis.
Its pretty sad when Washington Melee Scene >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. SoCal's
I get almost as many Melee 1v1 entries at Local GCs as we got at TP5... and that is w/o UW showing in full force, if UW comes we can break 20 entries.

When Halo Reach comes out, it will be my priority though as it will be EASY to put on a huge event with it, because every scrub will be playing it and think they are good at it. So I am getting ready for 16-30 teams every event and some events with 50+ teams.

melee def isn't dead if it's getting bigger turnouts now than it did three years ago

your tourny was just overpriced -shrugs-

it's no biggie, we (socal) don't miss you cuz we have a tourny every other week. just making a minor correction

although it comes to mind you're obv bitter about the result and want to throw out some incendiary flame bait so i consider myself tr0lled

I think as a host who made a long trip, he has reason to be upset at a 13 person melee tournament. I love melee as much as the next guy, I played in tournaments for it from 2003 - 2008 (and doubles still if i team with eggz) and players like Mango/Lucky/M2K/Zhu/HugS/Eggz etc were there.

Melee still wants a big chance and it gets given, but these kind of things make it harder for TO's to keep faith in it, when Brawl got like 100. Would melee have gotten 100 if it were on Saturday? I <3 melee but I doubt it to be honest.

Also, $35 isn't that much :p. It means bigger prize payouts.

it was just poor planning

as already mentioned, a lot of people could've told you months ago that a one-day sunday tournament (that's priced like a two-day tournament) on MOTHER'S DAY would flop

how can you blame the community for prioritizing their family? I wouldn't doubt that the majority of players didn't even CONSIDER going, even before knowing the expensiveness

we don't want/need the kind of tos like gameclucks...

maybe WA does cuz they have no smash scene, which is fine. socal has a very rich scene tho. neal and champ >>>> GC guy LOL

2GG and GC Guy work together I'm fairly confident. Sure, maybe you like them a lot, but I doubt you have been to a GC Guy event. You're complaining that a host flew to SoCal and complained at a 13 person melee tournament? You talk like he has no reason to complain. Melee wouldn't have gotten the turnout Brawl got if they switched days, and I bet Brawl still would have had a good Sunday turnout. And again, $35 isn't that much.

Nah, Jems pretty tight. GC Guy is trying to start his own MLG-esque thing up, but we can't do it without support from the community. Hes rly ****in tight too. I agree that a tournament on mother's day was the worst idea ever conceived, but I guess not much else could be done about it. You guys should hit up the next one, though. I'll try to get him to make it 2-3 day, cuz 1 day tournaments are major gay, but be prepared for a professional entry fee.

I don't see why you guys are so negative all the time though. No need to bad mouth someone for being upset when he invested money into a low turn out (again, not saying this offensively, just pointing out its reasonable regardless of the circumstances. not that I need to babydick this up with "no offense" and such, I'm just sayin.)

Also pretty sure GC Guy doesn't like melee players cuz UW (our main melee scene) hasn't made one of our melee monthlies in like 4 months with the exception of like 2 of them.

Thats a dumb reason to dislike melee players tho.

UW already openly said they arent really interested in competitive smash at that level, dont count on them, only Vish and Toph are considered active and andy is semi active(BC plays melee).

They just happen to be about 5 (lorin is moving to stanford, Jesse quit, tim quit, Im not uw) guys who go to the same skool, the WA smash scene extends far beyond them, they arent the reason for low turnout.

ITs like being mad at nate and Ka for not showing up at tourneys. They arent coming lol cuz they dont want to be there.

Altho, I do agree with everything else you have said shane.

jem is as stupid now as he was 2 years ago

old habits die hard
youre so funny

and thanks shane but you don't have to defend me at all, haha, some people just think i'm stupid or dont like me cause i have different views.

the other mothers day events at TP5 went fine..

I'm just saying, like Pocky said, since WA melee isn't as big, GC Guy brought it to SoCal. More tournaments = better. and GC Guy is one of the most efficient tournament hosts ever and ive been attending tournaments since 2003 so ive seen a lottt of hosts.

yay, a reasonable post i can get behind

im negative cuz it's easier (and more fun!) to fight fire w/ fire on the internet than try to have a reasonable discussion with (likely) unreasonable people

pretty sure GC Guy has no right to hate UW because we're not "obligated" to go hang out with 15-year-olds all saturday when half the time we go it sucks lol

(and im saying this as someone who goes to all of them)

I remember the ONE time I got like everyone to go and the melee bracket started at 9pm. don't blame **** on uw lol, it's just a cycle (positive feedback loop). gameclucks melee sucks -> uw doesn't wanna go -> gameclucks melee sucks -> uw doesn't wanna go etc etc

but yeah i mean thats neither here nor there and has nothing to do with socal lol

like, Jem says "who wouldn't wanna go to a tournament with Mango, Zhu, Lucky, Eggz, M2K..." but forgets that ALL of those players except Eggz and M2K LIVE in Socal. really the only OOS attraction there is M2K (sorry shane lol). so it pretty much comes down to "do you want to go play M2K?" and for most people it's like "no I'd rather hang out with my mom/not drive 6 hours from norcal cuz I have work or school tomorrow/no I'd rather go to a tourney next weekend, which will be bigger and cost $40 less"

in washington we're like OMFG M2K because we DON'T have awesome tourneys every weekend. but socalians have a privilege in that they can pick and choose which tournaments to go to. plus they live in the vicinity of the only player better than m2k so the draw of "OMFG M2K" is really not so much

edit: man wow I just read gc guy's post in full for the first time, haha did he really say "wa melee > socal melee" geez

its like so many wrong things in the same post

but yeah p hit the nail on the head i guess, he's just upset at low turnout and since he's not an actual PLAYER of any of the games, it's easy to be mistaken

Extremely reasonable post, P. <3

stop hating WA smash to fit in with socal toph

i didnt say you guys didnt have reasonable excuses for missing a ton of gameclucks
im just saying you missed a ton of gameclucks.

also the last gameclucks you've gone to sucked because the only setup there was gameclucks guys setup lol. dont act like its anyones fault but the community's when we have a good venue with open TVs. it could easily be a good tournament if people brought setups (referring to GC)

and yeah, im rly ****in bad =[

WA has a chance to pull our scene together.

We have decent numbers, and we have decent smashers. If ppl wanna pull it together its gonna take some work but its nowhere near impossible. We do have a good start seeing as we have a tight TO and a venue that works fine, we just gotta show up.

If we help GC guy help us then everybody wins.

We also gotta be more respectful to each other in general, its bad for the scene when everyone is always worried about egos and talking **** all the time. Or just being unpleasant for no reason at all.

@Eggz, toph was not even focusing on you, only that GC guy doesnt have a reason to use UW to dislike the melee players. Its pretty clear they dont want to go, there are reasons other than poor turnout-they just dont smash like that.

we do show each other respect, aside from a few funny comments very once in a while. if anyone actually gets offended, its their fault for being a pussy lol

ehh maybe shane takes it too far sometimes. nah not really lol
