So often people raise the devil over gimping... for me, its not sexy but still part of the game, so I don't mind. You can Gimp with skill and without camping.

Your thoughts?

Jake is definitely dropping Yoshi
Well, if you're playing a match, then all of a sudden you get a grab near the edge of the stage, then wouldn't the best course of action (depending on your character) usually be to throw your opponent off the stage? But that said, if your opponent is camping on the ledge (e.g. fox spamming lazers) waiting for you to go to him so he can backthrow you, then that is a different story. Although that is a perfectly viable strategy (especially against characters that don't have a good projectile and don't have a good recovery), if that is all someone does, then that can make the game really boring really fast. That's my opinion at least.

For me it depends on whether it's a serious p2p match/console fight or a regular online match. If it's the latter I don't like to use it, since it's way more fun to string together combos. However BY's point of grabbing near a ledge and the best option is to throw them off is a vaild point.

But if it's a match that is win at all costs then go for it you think it'll work better than trying a combo.

I gimp every chance I get. It's just how the game works at higher levels of play. The burden is on the gimp'd player to avoid falling into the gimp in the first place, and this is where much of the challenge of proper spacing and approach comes from.

However, if my opponent does something dumb or makes an input error that places them off the edge of the stage without any influence on my part, then I usually back away and let them back on. Gimps aren't any fun for me unless I earn them myself. Of course, this only applies to friendlies.

Heavy camping sucks all the fun from this game, whether gimps are involved or not. Generally I just inform over-campy opponents that I am not going to play with them anymore if they continue to camp so much, and this usually suffices to alleviate the problem enough for me to have fun again.

Try not to gimp if you want to improve your game in everything other than gimps (lol)

Gimp too much and you may lose a bit of practice @ some combos and other useful stuffz

Gimping with epic, risking moves is just plain awesome. Gimping with throw > d-smash > d-smash or something along those lines is a tad boring, but I don't mind it as long as it isn't every single time.

Also, gimping Ness by hitting his thunderball with a projectile - I do that if I can, just because it's so amusing.

Gimping's all good. Sure, it's about the most annoying thing ever, but as a number of people have already said in various ways (thanks for the link, ballin- the article put it nicely) it's part of the game. Counter it or duplicate it. That could be said for camping as well, of course, so my opinion is: don't be a complete jerk about it. Gimping's OK, but camping goes beyond that grey area.

I make an effort to avoid gimping unless it looks cool.

Gimping tends to not be fun. I know if I play a GOOD opponent who mostly tries to go for gimps, the games tend to not be anywhere near as fun as those with people who try to just do the flashiest stuff possible.

Speaking of, I feel like my game's been kind of stale lately. Need more awesome combo videos or Isai videos for inspiration!

Gimping is legit although I sometimes go for try to get opponent to highest percent possible if I am in a heavy lead in a friendly

There's no real taboo on gimping, but it makes the game uncreative and boring, especially in friendlies.

I find falcon up-smash to up-air to up-b 0 to death on dreamland more homo than an actual gimp

I consider low effort death combos that can be done from pretty much anywhere and that start from easy to land moves like grabs and Falcon's usmash to be gimps too. In other words stuff like Falcon combos on Dreamland and Jiggy combos everywhere.

gimping is dishonourable. always let your opponent recover and give him a fair chance to get back at you.

gimping ALL the time in friendlies is annoying, especially if its like falcon vs link or something. Thats just too easy.

In a serious match you need to gimp whenever you get the chance to. Gimping is one of the fastest ways to take a stock.

gimping is awesome, love it, (though getting thrown off dreamland as pika to a nair gimp as falcon/fox is infuriating)

jc shine close to the edge (close enough for them not to bounce on the ground > dropping off for another shine before the stun ends is just **** sexy though, a flashy gimp =)

God, is everyone here like a casual player or something like that? Exceptions aside, I don't see why everyone thinks gimping is the bane of honor. One of the most unique part of this game in the series is its off-stage/gimping emphasis. So many characters had no-lag spikes or the ability to continuously hit recovering opponnents that it's a waste of game design to not abuse anything and everything to the fullest extent possible. The whole gimping and heavy airial combat emphasis of this game makes it extremely fast paced. One mistake can ruin you because of it.

Furthermore, a lot of the cast can't be played remotely competitively without the ability to gimp.

Ok, Mr Hardcore, you tell me if it's fun to be gimped over and over again, or if it's fun at all to gimp over and over again. Doing combos or even getting killed by a kickass combo (3 Yoshi U-Smashes as a legit combo in the tent is pretty funny) is far more fun than gimp gimp gimp.

Everyone gimps in competition. If you had READ the whole thread you'd know that.

I don't mind gimping. It is frustrating to get gimped a lot but it also helps me realize how to a avoid it. Only gimp I don't like is dk's grab jump off the edge upb; kills link every time. I respect it, just don't think it's right lol. Gimping yoshi with a bomb is the best :)

If I can gimp and the situation arises for it, I will because anything else is an insult to your opponent: "I feel bad for you so I'll take it easy on you". Only thing I won't do is camp in friendlies.

The saddest thing in smash is to team camp with two falcos on corneria in melee. In a friendly.
