For items representing FE the only things that come to my mind that would work well are Assist Trophies, Staves (I really like the Rescue Staff idea of ACDC) and Tomes. Though tomes would most likely contain a random spell with limited uses based on that spell. But I don't know if having another item with random properties would be a good idea.

A lot of people seem to like the Levin Sword for Robin... I never liked how it looked tbh. Doesn't help that the attack animation looks kinda lazy but then again, attack animations in general are the biggest thing I wished Awakening did better (and more like older entries in the series).
My favorite swords (looks-wise) are Armourslayer, Mystletainn, Leif's Blade and Alm's Blade. Well, and Ragnell, but that is obviously out of the question.
Then again I'd like to see a moveset with many different weapon types and spells, so I could live with the bronze sword if I had to (though that one actually looks cooler than the Iron Sword, tbh :D).

If I get an item I don't like, I use it as a projectile. ****, sometimes I throw the Ray Gun to offset the timing of it's lasers.

As for Robin using staves, I think that's dumb. We have Palutena for that or Micaiah if you want an FE staff user. Robin should use a combo of Magic & Sword moves or just pure magic. A staff in a Robin moveset where Robin uses all Fire Emblem weapon types is fine but if you want cheat on what the Tactician class can do just so Robin can pull out a staff, that's stupid. There are much better recoveries Robin could have then that anyway.
I don't believe they meant staffs as a part of Robin's moveset. I think they meant the staff as an item that appears during matches.

I don't know the chances for Alm's Blade given the weapon's name, but it should be noted that Alm's Blade IS the sword that Male Morgan wields in the official art.

Yeah I was talking about staves as an item.

Ah, okay. I skimmed the page and saw someone talking about it as an Up Special. A Staff as an item sounds just fine to me. A Heal Staff could work: it could heal you slowly if you hold A but would leave you vulnerable. Other staves could work too, I suppose.

Seems like it would need to heal really slowly so that it's not overpowered, especially after an opponent has been KO'd.

Better idea: Gradually heals you for 4% per second, up to 100% total, while held. You can still whack people with it while held.

It's a mix of a common recovery item, and a weapon!

That could be okay. I guess. It just might require using two buttons if you can hit and heal with it.

Automatically heals while held, since there is no reason not to heal. No need for button presses.

Ah, well, that's perfect then. Go tell Sakurai to implement this; there's still time!

If we're going to bother going up and making suggestions directly to Sakurai, we might as well try to find out what the actual roster is while we're at it, and force Sakurai to change it if we find it unsatisfactory.

It was a day like any other for Masahiro Sakurai. Most folks worked 9-5, but not him. He really wanted to make Smash Bros the best game it could be, and would stay at the office until the darkest hours of night. It was getting a little late, even for him, so he decided it was time to call it a day. He gathered his things, packed up, and left. The security staff stationed at the Shinigawa-based Bandai Namco office offered Sakurai an escort as he said his good byes, but he refused. After all, it was only a short walk to his apartment, which he had taken residence of for the purposes of steady game development. Smash Bros was everything to him, and he would do whatever it takes. He told them everything would be fine, and he was on his way.

And he would be correct. It seemed like only a short walk before he was at the now-familiar door of his humble abode. After fiddling with the keys, a resounding click can be heard as the tumblers in the chamber are displaced, and the lock to his door gives in. With a turn of the doorknob and a push, the door opens. All is black in his apartment, no surprise given that it is now past midnight. As he steps inside, he turns on the light, removes his shoes, and his eyes find something he is not yet able to comprehend.

A fine steel point, not far from his face. It is that of a sword, of common European fashion no less. But this is no mere fantasy prop: it is genuine, and sharp enough to cut a boar in two. More importantly, it is held by a cloaked figure. Lost for words, the stranger takes the initiative:

"Put Robin in Smash Bros. NOW!"

Sakurai, stammered for words, is only able to muster "N-nani?"

Sakurai doesn't understand English.

Alright, this shall be my first sigquote.
Edit: ...Why do spoilers count into the line limit when they effectively shorten the limit by a rather huge margin?

Since when can a hexer wield a sword?

Fearing for his life, Sakurai agrees to the Cloaked Figure's terms. Sakurai immediately returns to the office, giving the night guard some feeble excuse for why he had to return. Tirelessly and fueled by adrenalin Sakurai pieces together what he can of the Hooded Stranger's message: "Robin" and "Smash Bros."

***

Sometime later, a young Smash Bros. fan purchases the latest installment, boots up his games to see Robin on character select screen. He yells to the heavens for an explanation, but one is never given.

After months worth of complaints were filed, Sakurai finally gave us the robin we wanted.

Sakurai, stammered for words, is only able to muster "N-nani?"

Sakurai doesn't understand English.
"Prease understand!"

@ Narwalgod Narwalgod well, he DID name his daughter after Zelda, so surprisingly, there IS some kind of connection.

Grimoires.

Also, you like Etrian Odyssey and now I love you.
I like etrian odyssey only because it showed me that rpgs could be good without relying on a story, only played 4 though. Never liked untold, i just saw it as 4 + allthe things i hate about dragon quest - most of the things i like about etrian odyssey.

Be careful you don't chain-post too often. Not sure if the moderators will appreciate that. ( ' ▽ ')/ Try to use the edit button when possible.

Yeah. Etrian Odyssey is proof that more can be less... That is also why I like SSB64 more than the other entries in the Smash Bros series.

I'll go on a record to say that EOU is much better in Classic mode than Story mode, and honestly better than the first three games. That said, EO IV is by far and wide my favourite in the series. Best music, best mechanics, best class selection. It's a little bit shorter than the others, but one could argue the other games are too long.... EOIV is the only I have completed.
Would'nt the hexer just put a curse on him or something?
Well, if I were to really break and enter Sakurai's home, I would class change to a Dark Hunter first.

Sakurai-san has been so very, very, naughty, hasn't he? ♥

Guys! Good news! It worked! Robin is in Smash Bros 4!

Thank goodness. We finally got a Fire Emblem character WITHOUT blue hair!

So, since discussion seems to be going nowhere at the moment, here's a question for you all.

If Robin were to be playable, what kinds of weapons, spells, or special skills would you like to see incorporated into Robin's move set? What kind of move would they be, and how would they function?

Honestly?

At this point, I don't want anything. There are just so many possibilities for how Robin would work. She could work with and without a sword. She can even go as far as to incorporate multiple weapons and skills to reflect her multiclassing. She could even go barehanded and just inherently be able to conjure the elements. In any event, I don't want Robin to be primarily physically inclined. I originally had a moveset of her with a sword, but the more I think about her combining the three basic tome elements into her punches and kicks, the less I care about it. She can function with or without it.

As long as Robin represents an aspect of Fire Emblem not yet present in Smash (such as tomes), I wouldn't really care how she plays too much.

We were a few dumb posts away from being the miiverse smash community.

Also, i just realised, regardless of wether or not robin gets in or not, when ssb4 comes out, these threads are gonna die.
Papa hong, please tell me that im wrong...

Thank you or restoring order to this thread. It was really necessary.
