I still think we should have had the big fan favorites be here after so much demand - but if they just had to be put in other roles (Ridley) or just weren't possibly planned, then this is the best we can get IMO. Aside from cuts happening on semi-clones.
On my own opinion to Ridley, I might be perhaps indifferent to him at best. Sometimes I think that his menacingness seems best presented as a boss however, because as a fighter, he seems less prone to expressivity and goofiness than even most serious characters in the roster. But I tend to believe that if he were presented in a good way, I'd be hopping on the belt as well.
But back on Robin and getting Smash 4 - I sometimes lament how people would skip over the games due the roster. Just drives on how apparently it is everything while clearly one misses a lot if thinking by so. This series can be really salty at times.
At the end, it a popularity/value scale that Sakurai holds in order to determine best and most "deserving" Nintendo-characters. While I'm a guy who wishes everything that is generally deserving (so everyone is happy), even that what I think can highly differ from everybody else. Due this reason, I think the choice on the playstyles within the newcomers being big theme here was more superior choice ath the end, and has done well contributing to most of the character choices aside from the relevancy within Nintendo's newest prominent IPs.

I think that'll capture the hearts of the first-timers for this series as they find many types of characters to try out and click within and they will have complete fun with the newcomers that truly feel their own. And in the long run, that might be better than outright having to pander on fanbases with somewhat less stylized and unique movesets on some characters than what we got at the end. (At the end I think they did more effort on these movesets compared newcomers in Brawl)
It also gives me hope that if the quality on newcomers on next games will go up on being better and not just "pandering" to fanbases when doing inclusions.
