For those yet unaware I am running a large european tournament in Birmingham August 10th-12th. Thread is here; http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=265173. The venue is BOOKED and tournament is therefore CONFIRMED.

This is the first UK hosted european tournament. This is massive for the UK and can be a platform for our community to show itself of (smash wise and socially). It will help us be more competitive and at the same time we can try to change our image of being the worst smash country in europe.

I am aiming to make this a yearly event but I need community help. Here is the list I need help with;

1. A successful tournament runs on MOMENTUM. This means advertising the tournament and maintaining interest. Please post your interest on the tournament thread and keep the thread interesting BUT don't spam it. The more people on the interest list and the more the thread is active the more appealing the tournament will be.

Please also use msn to convince european you know to come to the tournament.

2. If you are prepared to be a member of the tournament staff please say. You will be assigned to a team and be rotated on duty during the duration of the tournament. The role will have specific duties and be very important. Please dont volunteer unless your committed.

3. Setups. I dont want to rely on europeans to bring them. Please let me know if you can bring them.

4. TVS. Please say if you can bring tvs.

5. Housing. Europeans may fly into airports outside Birmingham. Let me know if you are willing to house them and escort to the venue.

6. Recording equipment etc. I need people to bring recording equipment and be designated in charge of running it. I also need microphones, amps, projectors and projector screens. Let me know if you can contribute any.

7. I need the community to decide on rules for the tournament?

Please also contribute any ideas you have to make this tournament successful. I want to make this the largest melee tournament in Europe ever!

As for rules, I'd suggest seeing how fuzzy's rules for ph2 pans out. It was a popular decision in the community so as long as it works, I see no problem with it. Also, it varies with the ruleset most europeans are used to so could be interesting.

Two rounds of pools?! If that was possible, that would be so **** as it would give a lot of people in the UK to play the better people in Europe but time restraints and what have you...

Also, I'll contribute my recording setup inc. microphone so we can have commentary too ofc.

If anyone is passing by car through the general oxford area, I could also bring like four tvs and game setups if my contents cover comes through in time

I can bring a setup.
Regarding the rules I like the idea of stage striking. (Rules at pound4 with mute city ofc)

Obviously I will need time to look into this, but I will see what I can do about setups/housing/helping as tournement staff.

I can bring 1/2 TV's and 1 Melee/1 Brawl set-up. Set-ups are confirmed, TV's not yet, all dependent on lifts.

I'd like to be part of the staff if you'll let me.

And I can house 3 people...

get hype, gonna be an awesome tourney

Like I posted in the other thread I will try to bring 2 tvs + 2 gamecube set ups.

Housing for Brits and/or Europeans pre-tourney and after the tournament is possible from me.

I'll advertise this tournament on All is brawl as well as I know there are Brawlers that would be interested in coming to this on even though it's Melee only.

I would definitely like to offer my help at this tournament and I would be strict but fair.
I can bring a setup but that's about all I could bring.

I am also hugely in favour for the stage striking rules with the good counterpick stages like Mute City, Rainbow Ride, Brinstar, Corneria and all the other normal 6 plus DK 64 obv.

First off, yes I'm definately interested and I'm sure the rest of my crew will be. Also, I'd be willing to offer my help in running the tournament if you need it- I've run tournaments myself now so should be of some use lol.

We will of course bring setups but I dont think we can being T.Vs

Tamoo- what do you mean 'fuzzys PH2 rules' That was my tournament and all the rules were decided by me

what i want to do is get the current UK + USA rules, as well as the different european rules. look at them and then decide our rules/stage selection.

the most important is stage selection. its already been decided that we will be using stage striking so we need to decide on the best 5 neutral stages.

secondly is the counterpick stages, how many we should have and what they will be. Also if we decide on many counterpicks we need to decide whether or not to have a stage ban as well. It has been decided that IF we had a stage ban it would NOT apply to the first game so to not affect stage striking.

sooo here we go.

neutrals.

for definate there is:

FD
YS
DL64
PS

the others should be 2 of these stages.

BF
FoD.

debate!

-------------------

counterpicks that will be for definate are the stages above.as well as them we need to choose which ones to have from this list.

DK64
Brinstar
Mute
Rainbow Ride
Poke Floats
Corneria.

debate!

-------------------

my input

the neutrals should be the classic 5 as theyre proven to work. imo PS is a neutral, not just saying that as a fox player, ive never found the changes an inconvinience to my movement or changed a games outcome.

the counterpicks i think should be short and sweet, i dislike the idea of bans but it doesnt make a massive difference. my list would be either.

BF, DK64, Mute
or
BF, DK64, Mute, Brinstar and corneria - with a ban

why is yoshis a neutral why oh why

also why is pokemons not a definate neutral cos of pound 4? Pokemon stadium has always been a neutral and has always been a good match to start on. Yoshi's however is used very frequently counterpicked because of the advantages + disadvantages it gives some characters.

ok guys, these are typically the type of posts we want to completely avoid.

YS is a definate neutral, theres nothing about the stage thats disadvantagous. the shy guys can be annoying but you can see them so you can expect it and the cloud is just good times.

PS imo is a neutral, theres been some *****ing about it so i though id give it a go, looks like PS is back on the neutrals.

and its not like stage striking doesnt give you option to get rid of YS if you dislike it. the fact is its not for debate, so debate about what is or dont post at all.

my bad ben, i meant gt2 not ph

my input on stages
well i never quite understood ps as a neutral since being in the community but if it's a firm neutral, there's no point debating it.
I think the other neutral stage should be bf personally. It comes up a lot whilst stage striking which imo is a large sign that in many matchups, its a stage that benefits and hinders characters the least. Fod I think should be neutral over ps but i think that bf is more neutral than fod so i'd put fod in counters.

As with cps, I'd rather have a ban, so would opt for the larger stage selection pool. I think if you're putting in mute city, brinstar should be there as a given and corneria is pretty much on par with mute on ridiculousness so should be there too.

I'd prefer a smaller stage pool (i.e. no Mute or Corneria) with stage striking and no ban. If the bigger stage pool is used though I strongly feel each player should have a ban for the set.

Neutrals should remain as they have at pretty much all UK events (DL, FD, PS) with YS, BF and FoD as definite counterpicks, then some or all of the following: Kongo Jungle, Brinstar, Corneria, Mute City

I can bring a setup and possibly a tv, I'll confirm nearer the time.

I'd prefer a stage list which is something like pound 4 (although whether you change the neutrals list is of no concern to me), or the basic 7 stages. L-J has the right idea imo with the "no ban, less stages" thing.

No Yoshis Is Definately Not A Neutral Is Is **** Small Which Is Bad For Light Characters And Marth Has A Huge Advantage On It

Tamoo- why the hell would FoD be a neutral over PS??? FoD is a terrible stage for a LOt of characters and definately has a lot the some characters can abuse. Pokemonz is a definate neutral

one character having an adavantage on a stage does NOT make it a bad stage.

marth, fox, falco, peach, falcon and ganon are all great on this stage and thats only naming a few. The small sctructure of the stage promotes aggresive play and the smaller killboard takes the emphasis away from gimps to get kills.

YS is a neautral. fact.

I really like to hope we don't just copy the pound 4 stage list because it was the pound 4 stagelist. We really should decide for ourselves which the best stages are and not copy someone elses completely

Thankyou for everyone feedback in the thread so far, really pleased with it. Im going to list responses land ideas I need feedback on;

1. For all those wanting to be staff members I graciously accept. Will be needing as much help as possible. I am still in the early stage of planning but nearer the tournament date I will get a detailed tournament schedule sorted with specific job responsibilties and roles sorted for each staff member. This is just to co-odninate the tournament so it runs smoothly.

2. Thankyou for those willing to bring setups and tvs. Nearer the time ill take confirmtions but understand it is still early.

3. TVs are a huge priority for this tournament. If you can bring them please do and as many as possible. A large part of the success of this tournament relies on them.

4. Ill read over what has been discussed thus far on stage rules and will make a decision soon. In the meantime people can still debate them.

5. Kate is prepared to cook two meals a day for the tournament. The price of the meals with be £2 for all. For those that help as staff or bring tvs then these will be free. I know it sint a large incentive but wanted to show some form of appreciation :chuckle:

6. Anyone drive and want to help out transporting stuff?

7. Im wanting an online registration site w/e. Anyone know how I would go about this or able to create one for me?

8. Anyone want to be in charge of running a tweeter page for this event and keep it updated during the tournament?

9. Anyone want to create a promo vid for the tournament?

10. Who wants to commentate?

Any other suggestions ?

Lastly, to make this tournament huge we need to get the big names here. Mainly, this means Armada and Amsah. However, there is a large american tournament finishing two days before this and they are expected to go. Joe has spoken to them and they are interested in making this after apex.

Is anyone willing to chip in say £1-2 ? if a lot were to do that we could buy their plane tickets back home. That way they could fly into london from america and then we would get them to go home from there and have their tickets bought for them.

How bout have a small side tournament at GT2 or something like single elim items to raise funds for this, just an idea, it's up to fuzzy ultimately.

And I for one would be more than up for chipping in if it gets the big names here.

Ben: It's my opinion that ps is bs, to quote one of the reasonings behind it, 'sometime's, all you need to say is that a massive rock grows out of it halfway through the match' lol. Yoshi's story is alrite i guess, screws ness up a lot though lol

5. Haha that would sweet, crabman says there's a possibility he can drive me up which would mean a good 3-4 tvs from us :)
7. I'd say best bet is to ask porc, or plank if you want one where you take payments etc.

If crabman could drive you guys and you could contribute that many tvs that would be very very cool Tamoo. More we get the more likely we are to being able to run double pools aswell.

Calzum - that'd be ace dude. If you are serious about it we can discuss what it should look like via pms and msn?

Tamoo- I like the tournament idea but as you stated it is upto charles. Even if charles just asked for 50p or more of each person at gt2 that would help OR take some from the pot. I shall see what he says.

Once ryanair release their sale tickets for the summer it shouldnt be too much for a single ticket. If we start collecting money now we maybe able to offer tickets to other players such as zgetto, strawhat, over etc

Why are people going on YS is not a neutral blah blah blah thats why stage striking is in place. If you don't like that stage then just get rid of it. Easy.
Also I don't think Corneria should be a CP because fox already has enough stages lol but not that bothered if it is.
Yeah I would chip in some money to get Armada and Amsah for this tournament.
