I might note that the first Punch-Out!! arcade game released in Japan in February 1984. So, last month was Punch-Out's 30th anniversary.

Little Mac was not in that game. But the poster artwork that was shown on the site does, however, match the original Punch-Out arcade cabinet and score display, etc.

I advise we don't cross out the April 3rd VC games just yet as they could still easily tie into the Direct

Adding release/anniversary dates for new-comers isn't biased, as it also helps others to comprehend their likelihood. Sakurai is going to release trailers for every new-comers, so it should only happen on Nintendo Directs & E3 and it makes sense to add games/anniversaries so when new-comer's closest release/anniversary dates + ND has passed we'd know its likelihood is becoming even less likely.

After that you can just outright delete old release/anniversary lines for unsuccessful new-comers.

The argument that Punch-Out's 30th anniversary was the reason for Little Mac's reveal date is helped even more by Wire-Frame Mac being an alternate costume.

The unnamed, wire-frame boxer was who you controlled in the original arcade game.

If Snake were to be in, I think they'll put him in as a surprise, having no trace that he's in until his reveal.

As for Game and Watch and ROB, there's really no way to hint at them without being super extremely obvious. While it works for characters like Wario and Ness, G&W and ROB are usually late-time unlockables.
