Is there any reason for us to move all discussion of Snake to the DLC discussion thread? Who's to say that he'll be DLC, in fact, who's to say there there will even BE DLC? To me DLC for Super Smash Bros. 4 would only be done for veteran fighters that Sakurai and his team didn't have the time to implement before release, and even then it would be a last minute resort. After all, Sakurai never did DLC for Kid Icarus: Uprising even though he very well could have.

Anyways, I just came here to reiterate my point that I believe Snake will be in the game ultimately, DLC or not. Sakurai showing Mario, Sonic, Megaman, and Pac-Man together so fervently doesn't disprove the idea of Snake's inclusion to me, honestly. If he were to make it into the game I'm sure Sakurai would talk a lot about how it would be possible to have a four-player match without any Nintendo characters and have all of the fighters in said match be different. If Kojima had so desperately wanted Sakurai to include Snake in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, why would he have no reason to want him in Super Smash Bros. 4? He'll likely be revealed in an August Nintendo Direct, though whether this will be Super Smash Bros. centric or not I can't say for sure. However, that's pretty much his last chance to be confirmed before the 3DS version's release, if he doesn't show up there he's gone.

I agree, I don't think he's completely out either.
Heck, nobody said he can't be revealed in a PotD. I know it seems like they save third party just for them, but Sonic's reveal happened after they gave Lost World and Sochi news. I will keep believing Snake is in to the day the game comes out...but hopefully it will happen before then.

As many has pointed out before if Snake isn't in the game than they might as well cut the entire Metal Gear series from Smash bros, an entire series being removed... I don't think has ever happened before. The rumors seem to have a fifty/fifty on whether Snake will be in or not and Gematsu, while not having been wrong yet didn't predict Rosalina meaning that it's not one hundred percent.
I would like to think that Snake will be announced before the game but Sakurai could be listening to the hype and think that he would be a troll and keep Snake secret until release.
We will all know the answer when the 3DS version releases in Japan.
Lets hope it's a yes.

I think the thing I'm most excited for to see when Snake returns...is him getting faceplanted on the screen.
Ooh that will look hilarious.

Gematsu leak doesn't really mention vets (save Lucas) though, only thing it has against Snake is causing people to make roster predictions that don't have him in it :l

Also, this randomly hit me. Does anyone remember a Wii U Miiverse leak years ago that listed "Metal Gear Solid"? I don't think anybody knows if that's real or not, but if it was, that would have meant Konami was still working on something on a Nintendo platform at least up to the Wii U launch. Definitely another good point in his favor if it was real.

I want Snake back in more than any newcomer. I said it before but MGS is one of my favorite series of all time, and the only thing that'd legitimately piss me off or make me sad in Smash 4 would be the whole removal of the series in it. Snake is my second favorite character only behind Wario as a video game character and a Smash character (in terms of movesets and such).

To me, Snake fitting in Smash matters not. MGS is an influential and huge series in gaming, with Snake being one of the most iconic out there. The series and character (maybe moreso Big Boss) are still going strong. He was in Smash before, he should be in this one.

Anyway, been watching this video. Hilarious.

Time for me to replay MGS3!

Sakurai doesn't have anything against Snake as far as I can see. He isn't the kind of guy who'd cut a character because he didn't like them anyway. The only reason that Snake would have trouble getting in would be legal, Nintendo would have to negotiate the rights to the characters but MGS3 came out on the 3DS around the same time they were deciding the roster, so I don't think he'd have a trouble there.
MGS is literally my favorite thing out there, all you have to do is mention MGS in a conversation and all semblance of intelligence just evaporates as I start fangirling excitedly. It would literally destroy me if Snake isn't in the game. I would go find a corner and never come out, living a little hermit life playing brawl over and over again trying to convince myself that it wasn't true.
Anyway, there's a lot of dumbs*** you can do in Metal Gear, hijinks with a box aside.

If this were to happen then you could expect next Monday to be the day he is revealed as the Metal Gear Anniversary is on July 7th.

Something tells me that Snake wouldn't be revealed at all, we would have to wait until the game came out. I don't know why, but that's just how I feel. If not than...
I don't think Phantom Pain is releasing before smash. Zelda was revealed when A Link Between World came out .
It could be on the anniversary.
It could, as said before, in the August direct.

That wouldn't make much sense from a business standpoint though.
As third parties are meant to generate hype and if no one knows Snakes on the roster than Metal Gear fans aren't going to buy the game.

That's why I don't know why I'd think they'd wait!
I don't know, maybe I'm so nervous that he won't be in the game that I'm just picking the date that'll give me a hundred percent yes or no answer. Such as the release date.
Although if they reveal him on Monday, I'd be one happy chick.

I can't shake off the feeling of them holding him for launch either. I mean, maybe Sakurai considers him special to the series since he was the first third-party? Perhaps they're purposely hiding Snake, so that when you unlock Snake it follows with a secret video of Kojima asking "Did you rike it?"

Still, it probably won't happen since Konami needs their name on the site, or back of the box...but again, all that could happen on the last day. It seems like a thing they'd do just for Snake...keeping us waiting.

Let's wait until July 7th which is the metal gear anniversary. That's the most likely date that he'll be announced until the August direct. Bleh, I'm so nervous. There haven't been any character announcements recently and it's driving me nuts.
If he waited till the day of release id have a heart attack, and id miss smash bros 4...
Don't have a heart attack! Think of all that you'd miss!

Anyway. Funny story guys. I was playing as Snake in brawl a bit ago because I was getting some serious feels (and I need to practice as him). For those of you who don't know, I'm a Zelda main by trade. While playing a match against a CPU and in a bit of a tight spot I though to myself now would be a good time to teleport... Up B!' Why am I not teleporting?
Oh, wait. Snake.
Right.
My Snake has turned out to just be a Zelda in a Snake body.

KOing opponents with C4 is the most satisfying way to KO 'em with Snake. I usually edgeguard by putting a C4 on a recovering opponent. And then... BOOM!

So uh, unrelated in Smash, but I'm a bit of a dilemma.

So apparently I can't find my copy of MGS HD ANYWHERE, but I really want to replay MGS3D. All I have is the 3DS version, which while I love its additions, the atrocious framerate makes me hesitant. Now I managed to beat it before but I'm more sensitive to it now than ever.

What do? Keep looking? Or just go with it? craaap

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, right now I'm trying to master his non-sweetpot air game.
When I play alone I usually just go through a list of characters that I know I have a poor match-up with. So for Zelda I'll fight a lot of high tier CPU's and characters like Marth. Snake I just fight anyone I feel like. So I got a little curious and decided to fight Zelda, for kicks you know? I didn't know that lightning kicks are so annoying to fight against just kick... bye.

Man that's awful, but if you have a desperate need for Metal Gear than I'd go with MGS3D until find the HD collection. That or you can find an emulator like I did once while on a trip to the beach and had need for the MG, I couldn't find anything like MGS but I did find the game that was released on the game boy. Which was pretty sweet.

The framerate was bad, but it didnt bother me too much since the framerate in the original was a bit slow itself during the cutscenes, otherwise the game runs fine. I dont think you could go wrong with either, but i gotta say that added crouch walk make sneaking much more streamlined.

Even if Snake doesn't return, you still have Brawl and PM.

I don't think he's coming back. Not solely because of relevance to Nintendo but the sour relationship between Nintendo and Konami.

The game boy one was great. MGS ghost babel was my first MG game and I recommend anyone try it. It is amazing for a game boy game. In my opinion it's the best gameboy color game.

I hope smash has some content from ghost babel.

Definitely the Peace Walker theme, Love Deterrent, Heavens Divide (for credits music), and vocal Snake Eater.
The MGS theme is amazing, its a shame they don't use it, like, ever anymore.

Yeah we will always have brawl, so thats something i suppose. I doubt nintendo's relationship with konami is that bad, it really all depends on a project by project basis, hell even capcom isnt doing that much for them right now other then throwing out ports of mega man VC games, and 3ds monster hunter titles. Bad blood would be a terrible reason to keep snake out

To be fair Nintendo doesn't have a very good relationship with any 3rd party besides SEGA right now.
And CAPCOM for Monster Hunter.

My wish list:
Snake Eater, Not Your Kind of People, Sins of the Father and Love Deterence please!
Zanzibar Breeze from the original games be nice too.
And Heavens Divide.
Keep Calling to the Night too.

I played through it in like three days because I just couldn't stop. Wasted my freaking vacation but it was totally worth it. I deleted the emulator because it was screwing up my computer afterwards though, so I haven't played it since. :(

Yeah I might as well just play the 3DS version and deal with it. I really have no idea where I misplaced my HD Collection copy haha.

Metal Gear had some of the best music tracks in Brawl maybe only beaten by the Sonic franchise.
I'd agree with you 100% if Eldin's Bridge didn't have Midna's Lament. I grew up playing Twilight Princess so all the feels right there for me.
I still fangirl anytime Calling to the Night plays on Shadow Moses though.

Nice ideas. Shagohod music is good music.
And Rising had an epic OST, can we talk about the metal rock boss battles please?

It definitely beat sonic's themes, they really only had one remade theme from the old sonic titles.

This is definitely a good start for mgs themes, i think this video shows some of the best ones too.

I remember watching that video. That guy also made a video called "5 Legends". I always show it to people when they ask why I like Metal Gear Solid that much.

No love for "Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday" from MGS2?
I was talking about the Rising soundtrack but if that's the credits theme from 2...
That was my least favorite.
"Here's to you" or "The Best is Yet to Come" are my two favorite they're just too good.

Although I have a soft spot for sad jazz and saxophones, what can I say?
I just love all the songs, I'm unopinionated like that. Although if I was forced to choose I would indeed pick either "Here's to You" from Phantom Pain or "Heavens Divide" from Peace Walker.

I'd rather have the MGS4 version of Here's to you but you know either will do.
I have a soft spot for brass instraments as well I just thought that song didn't feel very "Metal Gear" especially after the incredible credits theme that was "The Best is Yet to Come."

I'm going to post what I posted on another thread and you try to make it out:
There's another article on Castlevania Lords of Shadow being considered on Wii U but scrapped. The newest PES is skipping Wii U (again). Konami has no games to publish for Wii U and in their conference a few months back they had zero listings beyond 2014. The only two games listed for Nintendo platforms were Love Plus+ and Yu-Gi-Oh.

I guess Konami will only put out VC games? If so, I'd hope for Castlevania DS games. I loved Portrait of Ruin.

It's a really big deal when a major Japanese company such as Konami is pulling support. Things have changed quite a bit between Konami and Nintendo since 2005. Please refer to this article: http://nintendoeverything.com/konam...down-on-nintendos-third-party-relations-more/
People think Snake is safe because it's all on Sakurai, or that Kojima and him are best friends, or that he has an original moveset- no. That's not how things work.

People fail to realize that negotiations and licensing are huge factors in third-party relations. It's the same reason why Capcom cannot publish MvC any time they want. They have to go through Marvel and ultimately Disney for approval. Recently, they pulled MvC3 off digital store fronts. The license has expired. No one knows how that works for Brawl but Tatsunoko vs Capcom on Wii also got the plug pulled in 2012 officially.

Kojima Productions isn't even credited in Brawl as far as I know. Everything is under Konami Digital Entertainment as they hold the intellectual property rights. If Kojima left Konami today, he wouldn't be able to take MGS with him. Same thing for Inafune who left Capcom in 2010-2011. He couldn't take his creation, Megaman, with him. Konami's reluctance is not surprising but it is disappointing withe massive Wii install base, their games sold poorly. And Konami published fantastic games, too. Now, all we see is Konami playing extra safe and seldom releasing the games they used to in the past or even taking risks. And in a way, Konami has been somewhat pulling away from the gaming industry and they have been running sporting shops across Japan because it is assumed that it's another thing to fall back on financially.

Back to Smash Bros, Sakurai even has to go through The Pokemon Company to gain approval for any Pokemon represented and that's a 2nd party. This information is readily available to everyone but people refuse to be objective and face the facts. As much as Snake was a fresh character for the Smash Bros series and imo a welcome addition, his appearance in Smash 4 is slim to none at this point. It isn't 2005 anymore when Konami and Nintendo had a great relationship collaborating on projects such as the successful DDR Mario Mix that released here in the US the same month Brawl began its development cycle. The industry is totally different today.

And yes, while it is true Nintendo's third party relationship with most are not stable (mostly the western divisions such as EA, Bethesda, Epic Games, etc), Nintendo has still collaborated with Namco, SEGA and Capcom numerous times more than Konami. Those three are really the only major Japanese publishers who have games panned out for Wii U and 3DS mostly because their brands do well on Nintendo's platforms where Konami doesn't see that. I don't think whoever is in charge of Marketing and Licensing would give the okay to license Snake knowing their platform is capable of having the latest entry to the series especially when Nintendo was going for the same audience Sony and Microsoft goes for this generation. It also doesn't help when Kojima himself think it is unlikely for Snake to return. The only thing keeping Snake from making a welcome come back is the "bad blood" between Nintendo and Konami.

For Snake to return, there has to be a demand. I can see Snake returning as DLC if this happens and I'm sure Nintendo and Konami may even work out a deal to publish MGSV in some form as Nintendo has done this for Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge in 2012 (released earlier that year on PS3 and 360) among other 3rd party games such as Dragon Quest 6, 9 Joker 2, Bravely Default, Fantasy Life and a few other titles. They're even publishing Capcom's Ace Attorney vs Professor Layton. So, really, no one can actually compare Konami's situation and claim it is the same as Capcom, Namco and SEGA. And for the record, Resident Evil Revelations sold better than MGS3D. That says a lot.
