I've never played a hero shooter.
I'm a fan of Team Fortress 2, Paladins and Overwatch, and I've tried a few other Hero Shooters. The gameplay of all of them is fun, and the characters with their backstories bring a lot of life to each game, but the communities of the most popular ones are so large that there's more than several toxic people in them, sadly.
It's not helped by the fact that they're largely competitive games and that the companies who created most of them either eventually tend to neglect the games or, in the case of a company named after a certain type of weather pattern, are just a scummy company in general.
With that said, all of them are still running pretty well and TF2 has recently got some new life restored to it recently after the community made it clear that Valve
needed to take action about the bots that were plaguing the game, and from what I've heard, said bots are mostly gone now, Paladins is still active and has less cheaters, and Overwatch 2 is doing a little better lately as the developers seem to be trying to listen to the playerbase a little more,. If you're ever curious, all three of those games are free-to-play, so they can played without needing to spend a dime or going through the hassle of trying to get a refund if you don't enjoy them.
