Origin: Egyptian mythology. Asp, or aspis is a term used to refer to several kinds of venomous snakes living near the River Nile. The word itself means “viper” but the most well-known asps are Egyptian cobras. Asps were considered to be royal symbols in Ancient Egypt and their poison was used in executing respected people. One legend tells that they were born from Medusa’s blood and another says that Cleopatra used one to painlessly end her life.

Skills: Dream Needle, Toxic Spray, Eat Whole, Rakunda

Next time, you will meet a demon of the Herald race.

Asp feels like a random choice for a demon at first but there’s actually quite a bit of lore surrounding them, even if most of them are from Roman Egypt and medieval sources. Needless to say, most modern historians don’t believe that Cleopatra actually used them. But given how much of a snake theme she has in SMT, I’d expect her to summon Asp as a partner in her boss battles.
