Somebody educate a dumb person: Why Nintendo charging from $20-$50 a year is terrible when Xbox online services range from $60-$180 a year and I don't see anyone complain about that?

Not to mention earlier this year Microsoft tried to double the price of regular Gold before being called out.
It's not about how much they cost, but about if the content justifies the price.

X-Box gives recent Triple A games and other cool bonuses as a part of the GamePass. Nintendo gives you old crummy N64 games and Sega Genesis games as well as DLC that is worthless if you don't own the game.

Which one sounds better to you?

As I mentioned in the DLC thread, licensing costs, especially that of Sega, were to blame
There was a problem fetching the tweet

They should at least have two options, one with Sega Genesis and one without, the latter costing less. Like maybe $35 max

This is unjustifiable in NSO's current state. Maybe if they announced Gameboy/Advance/Gamecube games as well. Maybe. But for someone who doesn't play Animal Crossing, and doesn't care much for Genesis (which the games can be bought... forever... on the Switch now), or doesn't have friends to split the price, it makes zero sense to get right now.

Imma just wait until Banjo Kazooie and Paper Mario are both on the service, pay 50 bucks once for a year, beat them both (and maybe a couple other games), and quit it.

The biggest culprit really is Animal Crossing DLC being included in the price, which is useless content for anyone who doesn’t have Animal Crossing which, considering it’s a universal service, is quite a lot. It’s not just content you don’t care about but is still nice to have in the package, like the lesser gems in the N64 library or some/most SEGA Genesis games, but it’s content that’s unavailable period. If it was a seperate, stand-alone Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer-ish app that can be linked to New Horizons, it’d be better, but now the lion’s share of the pass’ appeal is locked behind owning and caring for a single game while it’s still calculated in with the price tag of the full package

I would have preferred $30 and would have been okay with $40, but $50?
Sorry Nintendo, but you need to include more content to justify that price!

At which price would you guys be willing to pay for the Expansion Kit?

WE JUST WANTED N64 GAMES NINTENDO
With the Wii U virtual console, we got N64 games in 3 years.

For Switch, we've waited 4 years to pay $50 for 9 games at launch.

What's unfortunate, is that it's still more economical for me to get N64 games on NSO, then buying them for my N64 ($30 each, 10 games). But buying the N64 carts, I have them forever (unless they're stolen again lol). But I can also just play Mario 64 on 3D All Stars which was a gift, and Banjo-Kazooie on Xcloud for just $13 for one month whenever I felt like it. I still have my options. What upsets me is there were so many people who were looking forward to playing N64 games for the first time that will now be turned away with the massive paywall and ignore it and stick with the base subscription.

And yeah, from what I saw there's no monthly plan. Was waiting to see what the price was before getting NSO again (I've wanted to play online, but wanted to voice my concerns with my money by cancelling it for a year). Looks like I'll be getting NSO for a month for Sora in Smash and Mario Party Superstars, and waiting until I feel like the service is worth it to get for a year.

Hope you enjoy Banjo-Kazooie, Noipoi Noipoi ! Since it'll be the N64 versions, get all the notes before doing anything difficult! ;) Once I get the service, I'll play Paper Mario for the first time myself.

why does Kingdom Hearts 2 have a “Next Time” occurring after every world completed? And more importantly…Sora…you’re a whole near man now with that voice of yours

Piracy discourse sucks, I agree with paying for things like new games and indies (personally I don’t care what others do with those but yeah seems like a bad idea) but some people act like it’s morally wrong to download old games that aren’t produced anymore; you ain’t stealing from anyone in moral terms ._.

Because KH2 has you going to the Disney worlds twice in such a shameless display of padding lol

If Nintendo offered a fair means to access their older catalog, I could see the argument against piracy--but these predatory tactics are exactly what sends people to piracy. The promise originally of NSO was to make it such a good deal, you'd have no reason to pirate, which I think is the best way to fight piracy.

Only reason I don't emulate any more is the experience of emulation is atrocious. Have to change so many settings, sometimes individually for some games, and still get a subpar experience out of it. It also frustrates me when I see someone doing a lets play of N64 games and you see all the graphical glitches they encounter.

Went and ordered that Switch N64 controller. Good thing I did that when I did because it's now sold out.

I just wish it came in other colors other than lame gray. :ohwell:

Though the Genesis controller being the same price as an N64 one is a ****ing scam (good thing I have a USB Genesis controller and a controller adapter).

It is an evaluation of the price based on the value to the consumer, with the context of competitor services & their offerings. Nintendo's online systems are poor compared to its competitors, lacking key features and when they do have the features, they are almost always worse. When Nintendo's online was free in previous gens, this was far easier to swallow. When it became a paid service with the Switch, the expectation with that upfront cost would be that the service would become better/improved a great deal, which has not been the case.
I'm happy paying for GamePass Ultimate because the resultant value justifies the price. I'm not interested in Nintendo's "expansion pack" because its cost is over twice as much as the old service and not anywhere close to twice as good. Put another way - I may be okay buying a great car for $7,000, but not excited about buying a ****ty car for $6,000, even though it's "cheaper."

In addition, people are commenting about new things. They may even think that Microsoft's service model is overpriced too. They're just making their opinion known about Nintendo's service, which is new.

I noticed the Switch Online Expansion Pack trailer has ESRB rating from Everyone to Teen.

Guess we shouldn't expect M rated games on N64 Online.
