Hey I don’t like it, I just don’t really see the point in complaining about something relatively minor. Yes I’d like at least a happy birthday DK tweet, but If the game still comes out, it doesn’t really matter to me when it’s announced.

But if you still wanna rant about it then by all means.
I’m just so nervous about it, you know? I’m afraid that even if we manage to get a new game that it will be substandard compared to Rare and Retro’s take on the character and it’s world given my general distaste for Mario’s abstractness and lack of consistency in its world, characters, and story. I kind of feel like i’m feeling a little bit of what Metroid fans felt before 2016. They got a bunch of great games from a studio that really cared about the property, then there was a huge hiatus von the series and the new games that came out weren’t what they wanted to see, all the while the studio that made the prime trilogy spent time with another franchise they just didn’t care for.

It is different for me, slightly, because I did have a lot of fun with the Metroid games I played. Honestly I feel kind of bad that I’m not super pumped for Dread. I just hold the country games very close to my heart, and my fear of the series being ruined by a new creative team with different priorities can’t be overcome be mild excitement for a game where I have the most fun when i’m not doing the part everyone else loves it for. I don’t want to be a wet blanket, but when i’m just not feeling it right now and I don’t know what else to do with those feelings.

Hey if you end up not vibing with it, then fine. But I think you should give it a chance.

Mario Galaxy and Odyssey are two of my favorite games of all time. Not just Mario games or platformer games, but period. They really inject something special into Mario’s otherwise simple world. And did you see all the DK references in odyssey? These people clearly hold a lot of respect for the country series. According to certain insiders, many people working on it are DK fans. Specifically of the country games, though you can’t take everything insiders say 100%. But I think If they were allowed to inject their special brand of creativity into the characters and world of DK, I think it could really be something great.

Now I’m not saying it’ll be exactly as good as Rare or Retro’s games. It could be better, or it could be worse. What I’m saying though, is I think DK is in good hands with these people. And I’m eager to see what they do with it.

Y’know, if they’re actually working on it.

When your class ends early due to technical difficulties in the classroom, with the added bonus that you're taking it on Zoom so you don't have to wait for anyone to bring you home;
And I don't even like alcohol!

Sometimes I think about what I would want from a Metroid game, a 2D one specifically, and it turns out very different from what other people would want from the series.

Like, I don’t want any backtracking or revisiting old areas. I don’t want the upgrades I get to just be functionally keys to unlock doors I couldn’t open before. I want them to be tools. So much of Metroid’s challenge, in my experience, comes from navigation and nothing else. It’s all “can you get there” and not “what do you do once you get there”.

I imagine a stage by stage Metroid game where you’re still hunting for upgrades, but you use those upgrades to solve puzzles. Using your weapons and maneuvering upgrades to manipulate the environment and objects within it to open up your path of progression, all the while dealing with the enemies stalking the corridors. Thus requiring skill from the player and not… idk… patience and headaches and guide reading.

I imagine Samus still being silent, but also keeping a log book you can read in the pause menu or between stages. It’s not mandated, but you can read it to get an idea of her thoughts on what she’s doing and the games ongoing story.

I also imagine it a bit like Assasin’s Creed or Tenchu, in that your actually hunting bounties like the bounty Hunter you are. And for the game to have the feel of a television series, with an overarching threat and story but with smaller self contained plots in each level or “episode”.

Just my thoughts on what kind of Metroid game I would really want to see.

I just can’t help but worry. I’m almost jealous of your optimism. And maybe my feelings will change after I actually manage to play Odyssey and the Galaxy games later this month (I still have the rest of DK64, Conker, Sunshine, and Wario World to get through first). But as of now, I’m nervous.

That is, like you said, if the game even exists. Which we still have no confirmation of from a direct source. I just hope they’re able to actually make a good DK game and don’t Mario-ize it too much.

Man playing the great Ace attorney really just Makes me want Capcom to Port the Layton crossover to the Switch.

GAA has so many of the same vives and it just Makes me want to see the characters from VS in higher quality.

We can all agree that all speculation has run dry and we all just want finally an end to Ultimate's run so we finally have the full roster at its greatest glory.

From what I've heard it's supposed to take place far in the future with characters from XB2 making cameos.

Kinda a Crono Cross deal I guess?
So new cast, same world. Instead of new cast, new world(kinda).

Well I don’t have any skin in the XB game, anyway. But thanks to Chuggaaconroy’s play through I’m mildly invested.

Is it supposed to be a direct sequel to XB2, and not a new cast of characters?
I actually don't know (and I tend to be up to date with RPGs).

All I know is that the rumours said Monolith is making a new title and the most likely outcome could be another Xenoblade.
Now will it be a Direct sequel to 2? XCX 2? XC1 2? Or just a XC3?
That is what nobody seems to know yet

Partly. But I also still have a pretty hefty chunk of characters I want in the game. It’s like… I don’t want to speculate anymore… but I still want those characters added.

Remember when this thread was the successor to the Ultimate General Discussion Thread?

Peperridge Farm remembers
Not gonna lie, kinda wonder what'll happen to this thread once the shift occurs. This thread's basically built itself as a very close knit community. Suddenly throwing in like, two-dozen individuals who aren't regulars here is gonna feel... very very strange, especially with how little this thread actually talks about Smash.
