The funny thing is, in the manga the cards are basically the Yu-Gi-Oh universes' equivalent to MTG, and that's all they were. Just cards. So figuring out the lore is like figuring out MTG from a different fictional lore :yoshi:

If we get a 16-bit “Super Shovel Knight” I only have one… we’ll… two requests. One: Take a lot of inspiration from the Mega Man X series and the 16/32 bit Castlevanias, the same way the original took inspiration from classic Mega Man and 8-Bit Castlevania. Two: Playable Shield Knight for a co-op adventure.

Last time I checked the lore they were all Spirits used in ancient Egyptian spirit battles and that Pegasus just transferred them over to cardboard or some ****.

Also in the anime cards caused the Big Bang. It's in the final episode of GX and it's stupid.

MTG lore, contrary to it's Yugioh brother, is either bat**** insane or tame af, depending on the set.

We have stuff like this:

Eh, most cards don't have lore in Yugioh.


But there are small parts that do have an ongoing story which are contained within the card arts.


Off the top of my head, the big 3 are:

Duel Terminal, which is ****ing massive

World Legacy, which actually is really goddamn sad

And the story of Albaz and Ecclesia

Compared to Duel Terminal, there's much less to pay attention too(iirc there's only like... 6? 7? archetypes involved?) but it's still very, very confusing if you just google "World Legacy card art"
