Alright @Emptyeyes and anyone else who's interested. Here's my pitch/outline for an animated Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Reboot.

Long ago in the distant past, the people of the galaxy lived in peace and harmony, ruled by Lady Fienna and Master Vile. Fienna was a powerful sorceress, and she created a special coin from Zeo Crystal that allowed her to draw power from the Morphin Grid, the galaxy spanning source of life energy. Betrayed by her jealous husband, Fienna was killed, and the galaxy was plunged into war. However, Fienna had four pupils who she had taught to also harness the power of the Morphin Grid. Ninjor, the scientist who created a suit of armor which emulated the powers of Fienna’s Coin. Dulcea, the sorceress who forged her own coin and was closest to Fienna. Saba, the tactician and stalwart monk who trained his body to be able to perform supernatural feats using grid energy. And Zedd, the strong yet compassionate leader. These Power Rangers were able to keep the peace and stop Vile from spreading his darkness across the galaxy thanks to their Zords (Serpentera, Cyclopsis, Hornitor, and Ninjor: Battle Mode), giant robots Ninjor and Dulcea were able to craft by combining their skills in magic and science. Dulcea and Ninjor eventually gave birth to a child named Zordon. They also raised an adopted child named Rita Repulsa, who was secretly the only child of Fienna, born from her burnt ashes.

Eventually however, Zedd was seduced by Master Vile’s darkness and promise of power. He betrayed his team, seeing it as the only way to truly restore order, taking Serpentera with him as well as ripping Hornitor right out of Dulcea and killing Saba to take Cyclopsis. Zedd and Vile then set out for Earth, the source of the Zeo Crystals, to take control over the galaxy’s supply of them. Zordon and Rita, now fully grown, volunteered to stop them alongside a group of their friends from college. Seeing no other way, Ninjor and Dulcea forged 8 new power coins like hers for them and created the Power Morphers to help regulate their power. As well as nine new Zords themed around the prehistoric earth fauna Ninjor was so fond of. It took the combined power of all of them plus Ninjor’s Battle Mode to defeat Serpentera by itself. And thus, the galaxy was safe under the principles of mutually assured destruction. Eventually, Zedd killed Master Vile and renamed his empire to “The Zedd Empire” and transplanted his brain into a cyborg body to allow him direct access to the Morphin Grid.

This peace could not last. For Zedd grew even more brutal and cunning with each passing moment. Eventually he appeared before the vulnerable Rita and revealed her origins as the child of Fienna, fudging the details to make her feel betrayed by her adoptive parents. Discarding her Green Power Morpher, she took her mother’s staff and began killing the Rangers one by one and collecting their Power Morphers. While she successfully acquired the Purple and Orange Morphers, the remaining ones were collected by Zordon. Eventually the two confronted each other on Earth in front of the main Zeo Crystal, with Zedd supplying Rita with a new ship and crew of minions. Zordon barley managed to prevail, and trapped Rita and her ship in stasis within a hyperspatial waste container. However, he was still killed thanks to the sudden appearance of Lord Zedd. Zedd ended up being defeated by the unlikeliest of heroes, Zordon’s faithful robot companion Alpha 5, who froze the tyrant in Carbonite and dumped both despots on the moon. He set to work on keeping his master alive, planting his brain in a robotic container similar to Zedd’s allowing him direct connection to the Morphin Grid, though leaving him a hologram unable to interact with the physical world. The two build a stronghold around the Zeo Crystal which eventually was covered by mountains and waited for the day when evil would return for it. Because of these events, Ninjor and Dulcea divorced and went into exile on two different planets.
In the year 2023, construction has began on the first lunar colony. During the process of construction, Rita Repulsa's prison is discovered and opened, causing her ship to materialize on the moon, amalgamating with the various construction and transportation equipment to become her Moon Base. Sensing her old enemy Zordon on the planet below, Rita begins utilizing her minions to attack Earth and recover any Zeo Crystals they can find. The sleepy desert town of Angel Grove has sprung up around the mountains covering Zordon's citadel, and as such it becomes a primary focus of Rita's attacks. Fortunately, the Citadel was discovered by five overbearing and overemotional humans, who were exploring an old mine shaft on a dare they received in detention. Their names were Jason Lee Scott, Kimberly Ann Hart, Billy Cranston, Trini Kwan, and Zack Taylor. After discovering Zordon and reactivating Alpha 5, they are entrusted with the five remaining Power Morphers and their accompanying Zords to become the new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. While initially reluctant to take up the mantel for a variety of reasons, they eventually came together when Rita sent down her two minions Goldar and Scorpina attack the city. The first of many battles between Rita and the Power Rangers.

Eventually, Rita got the idea to create her own Rangers using the three Power Morphers she still possessed. She found the perfect candidates in Tommy Oliver and his goons Bulk and Skull, a group of high school bullies who also were responsible for the low level gang activity in Angel Grove. However, while Bulk and Skull were pure evil and happily served Rita in exchange for her promise of power, Tommy had a heart of gold he worked very hard to suppress. While initially gleefully taking on the Power Rangers, the increasing scale of her activities eventually lead him to rebel against Rita, working with the Power Rangers for a few episodes leading up to the first season finale. In which Rita finally busts out the Cyclopsis Zord after finding it's container hidden within her ship. Tommy eventually sacrifices himself to defeat Cyclopsis by attempting to merge with it, crippling the Zord, causing extreme damage to the Dragonzord, and vaporizing his body. The day is saved at great cost, and Rita retreats for now.

The second season begins with a few events as catalyst. One, Rita is able to finally repair the Dragonzord, but not Cyclopsis, and recruits a girl named Katherine Hillard to replace Tommy as the Green Ranger. Two, Tommy Oliver returns! He awakens within the Morphin Grid and goes on a spiritual vision quest with Saba, his spirit guide. Eventually he returns as the White Ranger, commanding the new Brachiosaurus Zord (the powerful Zord Ninjor built for the White Ranger, should one be ever proven worthy of his mother's coin). We also get a new villain in this season! The psychopathic Joker-esque Ivan Ooze, brought in by Rita to try to destroy the Rangers, who she equips with the old Hornitor Zord (though not as powerful as it used to be).

Across the ensuing seasons, a handful of other villains emerge to challenge the Rangers. The Machine Empire, Count Dregon, Captain Divatox and her crew, Ransik (the Genghis Khan of the future), the Dark Demon Lokar, the insect queen Trakeena, and the Venjix computer virus. They also meat many allies, namely the powerful Masked Rider, the Time Force Rangers of the future, and a certain group of radical reptiles with an affinity for Italian cuisine.

Eventually, while scrounging around the moon base for parts, Squatt and Baboo discover and accidentally release Lord Zedd. Rita falls at her master's feet, and he compliments her for keeping up the fight. He decides to swiftly deploy his own Zord, Serpentera, and attacks Angel Grove with the Rita Rangers as backup. The Rangers fight valiantly, but Serpentera is too strong for even these 6 zords by themselves and the Ultra Dinozord is destroyed beyond the zord's capacity to heal. When the rangers attempt to summon them all they get is the rubble. Zordon tells the Rangers of Ninjor and Dulcea, though only in part, and they set off into space to find them and get their Zords repaired. This also draws Lord Zedd away from Earth as he attempts to reclaim the Power Morphers. To protect the earth in their stead, The Rangers grant a portion of their power to five of their friends, Rocky DeSantos, Tanya Sloan, Justin Stewart, Aisha Campbell, and Adam Park to become the Zeo Rangers. They make it as far as a small spaceport just outside the Oort Cloud before their ship breaks down. While there they are attacked by the forces of the Dark Queen Astromena, who is the current ruler of the galaxy in the absence of Lord Zedd. They are able to hold her troopers off, but are unable to fight the giant monster they deploy, and are rescued by a strange man named Trey of Triforia. An alien with multiple personality disorder who was inspired by the stories of the Power Rangers to become a force for good in the galaxy with his Golden Staff of Power, stylizing himself as the "Gold Ranger" with his spaceship Pyramidas acting as his "Zord". Trey becomes their guide across the universe as they search for Ninjor and Dulcea and evade Astronema's forces, as well as Lord Zedd.

Eventually the two are found and reluctantly work together to forge new Zords, the Thunderzords, after some cajoling from Tommy, Saba, and an astrally projected Zordon. The Rangers also learn the final hidden pieces of backstory. As they are preparing to return to Earth, Lord Zedd attacks Ninjor's planet with Serpentera. Thankfully the Ultra Thunderzord, along with some help from Ninjor: Battle Mode and Dulcea as the Brown Ranger, are able to defeat and destroy Serpentera and the Rangers return home. Though Zedd is still a threat, even without his mighty war Zord.

We then get maybe one or two seasons with the Thunderzords, including one centering around Lord Drakken. I'm also contemplating a potential VR Troopers crossover and a crossover with the Sentai Spider-Man show (though given the Americanization Saban Treatment).

  • Ninjor – Blue
  • Dulcea – Pink – Brown (after forging Power Coin)
  • Saba – Yellow

  • Zordon – The wise sage and former Red Ranger before being betrayed by Rita Repulsa. He has a digitized brain allowing him a direct connection to the Morphin Grid.
  • Alpha 5 – Zordon’s neurotic robot assistant.
  • Ernie Kelmen – Owner of the Juice Bar and Youth Center. Sort of a fun uncle figure. Eventually learns the Rangers identity.

Later he is revealed to have been one of the original Rangers along with Ninjor, Dulcea, and Zedd.

  • Ninjor – The original creator of the Power Coins, disgusted by his creations use for violence due to his strong pacifist/self-defense-oriented beliefs. Eventually reluctantly comes around and creates the Thunderzords.

  • Finster – The crafter of the monsters which make up Rita Repulsa’s armies
  • Squatt and Baboo – Rita’s bridge crew, simple but insightful, counterbalancing the energy of the main villains. Strangely grounded.
  • Lord Zedd – The evil emperor of the Zedd Empire, Rita’s brutal superior, 2012 Shredder dangerous. His digitized brain, connected directly to a robotic body, allows him direct access to the Morphin Grid. He was one of the original four Rangers with Ninjor, Dulcea, and Saba before betraying them.
  • Rito Revolto – Rita Repulsa’s brother, sibling rivalry, mix of aggression and genuine affection. In the same way Rita was born from Fienna’s ashes, Rito was born from Master Vile’s.
  • Master Vile – Lord Zedd’s slain mentor. Taunts and belittles him as a spirit/hallucination.
  • Ivan Ooze – an insane Joker-esque villain sometimes employed by Rita and Zedd, who are also sometimes his targets.
  • Mordant – Ivan Ooze’s Harley Quinn.
  • “Rita Rangers”
    • Green Ranger – Tommy Oliver – Katherine Hillard
    • Purple Ranger – Bulk
    • Orange Ranger – Skull
  • Detective Jerome B. Stone – The corrupt police officer who enabled Tommy, Bulk, and Skull.
  • Lokar – The original Green Ranger who was slain by Master Vile. His soul banished into the Talos Dimension, the source of Vile’s evil power, he was twisted into a demonic force who would eventually ally with Rita and Zed apon his return centuries later.
A brief explanation of Power Morphers. Power Morphers are the devices that allow Power Rangers to tap into the Morphin Grid. At the heart of each is a Power Coin, a coin forged from Zeo Crystal which allows a user to tap directly into the power of the Morphin Grid. Originally forged by Lady Fienna, who channeled the coin’s power through her staff. A similar method was used by her pupil Dulcea, who wore her Brown Power Coin on her belt. After Zedd’s betrayal, new coins were forged for Zordon and Rita’s team of Power Rangers to give them a better fighting chance. This time, each coin was housed in a Morpher, which used technology to perform certain actions with it that would previously have required a spell. Unlike Power Coins and Zords, Morphers are relatively easy to create. In addition to the normal Morpher. Each Morpher also has a detachable component which can grant a person the power of a Zeo Ranger. A Zeo Ranger derives their connection to the Grid remotely from another Ranger, rather then directly from a Power Coin or Zeo Crystal.
A brief explanation of Zords. Gigantic battle mechs created by Ninjor and Dulcea combining their abilities. These were deemed a necessary creation after Master Vile killed Lokar, the original Green Ranger. Made of a special magic-infused nanotechnology, they have the ability to store themselves within a Power Morpher as a small core of nanotechnology. Each Ranger pilots their Zord with their mind directly, rather then from any sort of control cockpit, the Zord’s body basically becoming the Ranger’s body. Zords also have the innate ability to combine with each other to boost their own abilities. The Zords have regenerative capabilities comparable to a living being. They can heal from extremely serious injuries (like when Tommy severely damaged the Dragonzord during his sacrifice) they are not indestructible and powerful enough foes can cripple them beyond their own capacity to heal (like when Serpentera destroyed the Ultra Dinozord, necessitating the creation of the Thunderzord System).

Note: The Zords used by the Zeo Rangers are not true Zords, but rather facsimiles created by Alpha 5 using Finster’s Monster Making technology. As they are not made of magically infused nanotechnology, they cannot combine with true Zords, and combine with each other via shifting in scale and interlocking physically with each other. They are not stored as nanotechnology but rather as a small figurine sized object the Zeo Rangers must carry with them at all times, though Alpha can teleport them to the Zeo Rangers in a pinch. No substitute for actual Zords, but suitable for the work the Zeo Rangers were doing while the Power Rangers were off planet.

try naming every single bad and sucky animated reboot then...only cause I'm curious on your opinions
Subjectivity as well as the qualifications for what’s considered a reboot make this difficult but at the very least I will say every CN reboot (with PPG at the top) and Ren & Stimpy are up there for the worse of them

Animation Critics rushing to complain about a reboot that wasn't made for them nor one they were gonna watch anyways for the 1000th time
View attachment 317791
I mean, for example, complaining about TTG at this point is all but literally beating a dead horse.

Buuut it didn't exactly do the show any favors that it repeatedly insulted and mocked it's critics and fans of the original show in it's earlier seasons while marathons of the show basically took over CN's daily schedule for more than a few years, making every other show on the network very low priority during that ssme time frame.

I blame that adult R&S show on the fact Nickelodeon wasn't involved...which gives me hope for the next reboot/revival

and excluding DC, Looney Tunes, and Scooby-Doo...I suppose those other CN reboots are a pound of **** per series

TTG at least has their moments (the movies released especially). At least it now makes sense as to why TTG mocked the TT...them being confirmed as the jerk versions of the team is funny

In my opinion, I think reboots should capture what people loved about the original while also putting its own spin on things. Something that new audiences can enjoy and offer new stuff that fans of the original can enjoy while not alienating them.

Ducktales to me is the gold standard for reboots and captures this idea

So I'm legit curious on this: a lot of cartoons straight up mock their critics and their fanbase (Sonic Boom was a nototious example of that), so why does TTG get singled out? Is it because it's just an OK show? Was it because it simply wasn't what the fans wanted due to it being slice of life by appealing to a younger audience intead if am action oriented show?

Also, on the marathon bit, it's not really CN fault that TTG was indeed their most popular, and unlike the rest of the shows that aired at the time, it was definitely made for children and pretty easy to digest unlike Adventure Time or Steven Universe, this appealing to the largest audience if them all (kids). Like, I can't blame them for marathons because TTG was where the money was.

Theres more than one?

I *ing hope so, i loved tomodachi life, with this mii creator imagine all the cursed * that could come out of it.
Both the Japanese and American versions are radically different, same game, different mechanics. In the US version, for example, certain enemies drain EXP when you get hit by them.

all I want from a reboot is for it to be good or amazing no matter what

it also kinda makes it harder for other shows to attempt to gain bigger popularity. Either your top show gets the most attention or you try to spread the love all around...at best Disney would do better at that than Nick or CN...not that it says much

That’s fine as well, though that makes me think, would a reboot be considered a good reboot if it completely took a vastly different direction from the original? Like it’s doing something good from an objective standpoint but it doesn’t have the same feel as the original?

Definitely agreed. I don't really understand why people crap on reboots for trying something new, or mixing up the formula a bit. Now, if it's flat out alienating the series like you said, then the disappointment is understandable to me.

I'm all for including different viewpoints in a show but changing the female characters with tomboy attributes into being a lesbian all because she has those attributes is a trend in modern media that actually kind of annoys me.

If they were going to go that far whati think they should have done was make an entirely new family to interact with. Thhe old show did this all the time for representation without changing major parts of a character so i dont see why this had to happen.

Dont mind my ramblings, i just really liked all the dads in the old show.

  • Alpha 5 – Zordon’s neurotic robot assistant.
  • Ernie Kelmen – Owner of the Juice Bar and Youth Center. Sort of a fun uncle figure. Eventually learns the Rangers identity.
  • Fred Kalman – Ernie’s son. Power Rangers biggest fan. Fantasizes about being the non-existent Silver Ranger. Eventually is given Dulcea’s Brown Power Coin, though is unable to do anything with it other then put on the costume.
  • Henry Caplan – School principal. Knows about Tommy, Bulk, and Skull’s gang and tries to steer them clear. JJJ-esque opinion of the Power Rangers.
  • Saba – Initially presented as Tommy’s spirit guide while he journeys through the Grid to become the White Ranger, he manifests physically as Tommy’s new talking sword after becoming the White Ranger. Later he is revealed to have been one of the original Rangers along with Ninjor, Dulcea, and Zedd.
  • Trey of Triforia – The self-proclaimed “Gold Ranger”, though he does not use a Power Coin Morpher. Has a strong case of Multiple Personality Disorder. Guides the Rangers through space to find Ninjor and Dulcea.

    • Purple Ranger – Bulk
    • Orange Ranger – Skull

You should've been a director. Although, I don't know your life story. Your willingness to brain storm and having a decent plot is interesting to me.

I never understood the idea of people who are relatively well off saying, "adulthood sucks, I wish I was a kid again", and then their only hobbies are watching sports every sunday and that's it.

Like, I did you even try to make adulthood fun?
Yeah, as an adult you can use your spending money to collect the transformers you wanted as a child but dad said no too! come on, think men, think!
