SnakeFighter64 SnakeFighter64 Look, I am excited for an open world Sonic, and I can respect that you aren't. But many people I have seen on another Sonic site seem to like the idea. Sonic is about exploring as well as speed, after all. Hust because you don't like something doesn't mean it is universally bad. That is all I have to say. Please don't respond to this.

Oh my goodness. The way that Fighting Ex Layer AD is online, abstract to much of a strict tournament setting with very limited optional freedom. I would have to go to tournaments themselves again in order to choose what character I want or should I say option select, instead of being confined to one or having to shuffle from character to character. The relentless lustful influence for winning is strong with these settings.

I guess I'll take my only rank match win and withdrawal from online indefinitely.

Even if Sonic could work in an open world genre, that still doesn’t change the fact that he doesn’t need to! People who like open world games already have plenty of them to play. So why continue to make everything open world and take away from people who like linear games?

To be fair, I wouldn’t even call it primary open world. It’s kinda of like the Hub in 06 it sounds like.

With you unlocking traditional levels that apparently are the best part and have banger sound tracks. So it’s not full open world but a mix of things

In the same way that adding a new character to Smash doesn't replace any other potential character, making a different genre of game in a series doesn't "take away" a potential game with a different genre.

Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces demonstrate how possible it is for Sonic Team to work on different genres of the same series at the same time.

Honestly? Experimentation and money.

People have been saying Sonic has been bland recently, so they’re trying something different. And Open World games sell better these days. Not too mention it gets a huge PR boost because gaming news sites get to say:

“Zelda going open world! Pokémon going open world! Sonic going open world!”

It said “do challenges for orbs”. That doesn’t sound like an open world connecting a handful of linear levels to me. Not to mention you kill the variety in level theming by needing to have them all strung together in a believable manor.

But they aren’t are they? They didn’t announce two games or three. They announced one. And you can only play an old game so many times. I want to be able to look forward to new things. But I can’t if everything keeps going open ****ing world.

I in hate everything you just said. Partly because it’s ****ing true and I hate that it’s true. And there’s nothing to do about it. So I guess eventually I just won’t be able to play video games anymore once everything is open world.

So like

If this info on Rangers is accurate...

This is basically just official Sonic Utopia mixed with Unleashed. This sounds actually pretty rad.

As for the concerns about combat being "Mash X to win"...

I mean, that's literally every 3D platformer's combat ever, lol. Plus, Sonic games aren't really known for their combat depth, sooo....Yeah, I'm not all too concerned here. If the 4chan post was supposed to be a turn off, it certainly wasn't for me, it actually got me excited quite a bit more. :p

Since it's called "Sonic Rangers" with an "s" though, I wonder if more than just Sonic is playable. That'd be a nice change of pace.

Snake it isn't his point.

Sadly it is business and that's what makes money. I hate the fact that it feels like creativity is being drunk of games nowadays and it's partially why I've lost interest in my favourite medium.

Open world is fine to me as long as it's creative. Gravity Rush, Horizon, FFXV (I mean the modern fantasy setting), Xenoblade etc. Some great examples.

It's game always desperate to be the next GTA is my problem.

Lovin the Rayman avatar.
:3 Thank you, Noi! xD It's actually just one of the two Raymans I did for an illustration out of fun. The one I have is my Lil'Ray, a tiny Rayman that is just 5 years old and lives with my favorite Assassin's Creed character Shay during his retirement in one of my stories with those two. It's an alternate one specifically. The other one I drew was R1 Rayman.
