You can do it how you want to, but personally I don’t see the point in restricting yourself when there’s no need for such things. The only limit is your imagination.

Every time I make a roster it's usually both simultaneously an expression of my own creativity, a prediction for if it actually did happen, and a design doc for a potential future where I get to head such a project. But I do see your point.

I haven't gotten spoiled on too much for the last episode of Falcon and the Winter Solider, but unfortunately, there's bits and pieces people already shared. It is what it is.
I heard mostly mixed feelings on Mortal Kombat though. I just hope Scorpion and Sub-Zero are badasses in it at least.

I read that as Sans makes a pretty cool Captain America and was incredibly confused for a moment before rereading.

I'm remembering back when I asked if people would rather have Terry Bogard or Sol Badguy in Smash, and then people dug that up when Terry was announced and were like "looks like Sakurai chose Terry" and I'm not imagining a future where this quote gets pulled out because it's true of Smash Ultimate.

I'm going crazy with redstone. I made a wheat farm with a hopper item filter that only adds wheat to a chest. The seeds are send to a dropper which I can activate with a clock to make them go up and item stream into a chest near my wheat field.

I'm not familiar with every franchise involved here, but a few things you could do...
-cut the non-video game characters - I realize that Sony owns Ghostbusters, but it seems best to stick to a theme. That would get rid of Goku, Spider-Man, Batman, and the Ghostbusters, at the very least.
-put a hard limit on the third party characters; five Crash Bandicoot characters seems excessive. I realize that Crash is important to the PlayStation, but it took three Smash games after third parties were included (five in total) to get more than one third party character from the same series. You could trim it down to two third party characters per series, or three if one of them is a clone.
-ask yourself "do they need to be here?" I get that adding crazy/unexpected picks can help to make a roster more exciting, and that clones don't take much work, but I'm not sure if four inFamous characters are needed (though I'm not super familiar with the series; I'm only vaguely aware of who Delsin Rowe is, and I have no idea who Fetch is), and having both Gex and Croc seems a little redundant.
Smash Bros. didn't jump straight from 26 characters in Melee to nearly 90 in Ultimate in a single game - it took a lot of games, and a LOT of goodwill being built up with developers (both first party and third party), to get to that point. See what you can do with a line-up of 40 characters - that's a little more than Brawl's line-up. (and even 40 seems like a lot - in the thread that I made for having SmashBoards make a sequel to PlayStation All Stars, the limit is 36, not counting DLC)
Assuming that you're keeping all 24 veterans (though there might be appearance or moveset changes to reflect recent games), who are 16 characters that seem absolutely necessary? (either because they should have been in the original game, or because they rose to prominence in the past ten years or so) If you feel that 16 isn't enough, which veterans would you feel comfortable with cutting?
As an example...
1-24. all of the veterans (though some would have their appearance/moves updated)

27. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
28. Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid)
29. Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII)

I stuck with the characters that you listed, so I'm not sure who some of them (like Lady Maria) are, but that's an example of how you could narrow it down. I feel like there are probably some veterans that you could cut, such as cutting Evil Cole for Delsin Rowe, but you seem hesitant to do that.

As an avid fan of XC2 since I played it on release and who also ranks it among my absolute favorite games of all time, I couldn't agree more with a lot of your points, although I do have to mention one thing in regards to Rex's reaction towards Nia's confession. There's actually after battle dialogue where Rex brings it up again, suggesting that he was actually aware of her intention at that moment and was simply trying to let her down easy.
But yeah, words can't do justice to express how much I adore Xenoblade 2, and I'll never get over the joy of having it immortalized in Smash Bros now with two of my favorite characters ever.

I feel you. I'm so grateful Xenoblade 2 has the amount of love in Smash that it has. This game made me feel things I rarely felt, especially toward a work of fiction. And yeah, that detail slipped my mind while I was making the essay.
