Yooooo I heckin' love Civ. I have mods that let me play as the Eggman Empire and Princess Celestia. I think there's a Wario mod in there, too.
Idk about the rest of the franchise, but I do know one thing and that's the fact that Pokemon fans are gonna be seething over who gets in.
Really. I guess you're entitled to your own opinion and this project only exists as a word document on my laptop but..... I guess I just prefer the variety.

I feel like you could probably make a case for replacing Charizard with Lucario. Although I can’t deny those two are probably the best combination to represent Pokemon.
And here I was thinking Mewtwo would've been too Gen 1 greedy. Could probably do like, Lucario or Gen 8.
If they can have more via DLC, perhaps. Again, some franchises are too big, but with 3, franchises like Street Fighter and Pokemon can at least live with 3.
Of perhaps Pikachu and Greninja.

's basic idea though, Nintendo should definitely try putting their characters in a traditional fighter situation. I think it'd be pretty cool.
I don't think a fixed number works, on either end. Series like Mario and Pokemon have key characters that would be gone, and small series would have to add unimportant side characters to be added at all. Would you sacrifice Lucario for Louie? Peach for the Wii Balance Board?
That's silly. I'm sure they would've adjusted that for the PAL release...
Noivern and Poipole are clearly better suited towards representing the Pokémon franchise.

Can't even argue with that. Mimikyu and Jigglypuff are my two favorite Pokemon. I'm genuinely not sure which I prefer.
The best way to represent Pokemon is to bring in their best in terms of character design.
