"J Dawg is trying to end that man's whole career right there!"

Good matches dude. To me it kinda looks like you run out of steam partway through a couple of these after starting really strong.
Yeah, the biggest issue is that they usually remember how to fight against heavy characters. That, or I get them to that weird percent where I don't get any more throw follow ups but I can't safely fish for any kill moves. Killing is something that D3 struggles with at higher percents because of that.... No safe shield pressure. :/

I always feel like it's weird when I complain that it is tough to find kills with Dedede, but it really is true sometime, especially when your opponent is feeling antsy and trying to keep you out.

You're doing God (and the QA team)'s work. Let's hope they never fix this. Don't think they can without seriously changing how the rolling crate works.

I just saw the game against Link and ZSS, good DDD. Nice match, I felt it was a little slow paced but more so because of the other player. The Link/ZSS player has a lot of room to improve.

On the DDD, there were some poorly timed bairs and some unsafe gordos thrown. Could probably use inhale more, specially when he was being over pressured by ZSS. Despite that, good DDD. If he had not cancelled the UpB at the end of the first match it would have been awesome.

The VODs from the last weekly finally got posted! Now I'm not gonna pretend I'm that strong of a player, but I'm pretty happy with my performance in these videos

:4dedede::4rob:vs:4ness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsifD_E2FfE
:4dedede:vs:4dk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqodVAjWsCU
:4dedede:vs:4link::4drmario: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EL2VPhGMUs

Somethings I've noticed myself:

  • I try to Jet Hammer style a little too much.
  • Still need to work on when and where to throw the Gordos, I kept throwing them out even when my opponents proved they were unsafe in those situations
  • Still bad at Gordo reflecting (listen closely after the Doc match, you can hear me respond to the commentators about it!)
  • I go for inhale mixups a lot but I often either fail to b-reverse or b-reverse when that was the wrong read to make.
  • I could be better at reading DI and air dodges in general
All that said...I'm very proud of these matches, even the ones I lost. It feels like I'm improving, and at the very least I did get 4th place in the tournament. I could've secured 3rd had I played the Doc/Link match up better. So, I can focus on cleaning up my game some more for next time.

Oakley doakly! I just went through the whole thread and added a ton to the OP.
I'd like to apologize for being a Slacking and loafing around. No more of that dribble.
I plan on keeping up with this thread more effectively, diligently and also with a slightly different mindset. I'm hoping this can be a place where people can watch both excellent and still developing Dededes. The goal of the OP is not only to show off what to do, but also what not to do. (So not every video is necessarily Dedede winning, in other words.)
I'm hoping having access to a lot of footage in a single place will help a lot of aspiring players. Both to inspire and learn from mistakes of others.

@ Thee Incubus Thee Incubus When do you usually stream Smash? I'd like to add a link to your stream to the OP along with time frames so people can know when to tune in. ty~

If anyone knows of any other streamers who put a focus on Dedede, I encourage you to let me know.~

My smash hall stream focuses exclusively on Dadledingo and also is spawned of this.

So I played a very tired Chillindude on his stream earlier today. Over wi-fi, but we're pretty dang close and even with him streaming (and me having stream open) there was no noticeable lag. However, I didn't save any replays so I'm in the process of downloading the VOD now.

My question is, where do I put it for people to reference? I could just drop a link to the twitch broadcast (as my matches were literally the last ones he played before going to get some sleep), but twitch auto-deletes those after a couple of weeks. However, I don't want to upload them to youtube out of respect since doing things like that is generally frowned upon. Until I figure out what exactly to do, here's the link to the VOD:

http://www.twitch.tv/chillindude/v/6421623?t=2h07m00s

The first match I went Ganondorf (mostly just to feel out how good he was playing), the other 4 I went Dedede. I dunno if there's anything too impressive here, but it does gives a look at the Dedede/Ryu match-up.

Well, I'm not quick but I can offer some advice. Jabs and forward tilts are your friend against the Captains just for swatting the Pikmin away.
Other than that, power shielding is the best option foe those fsmashes. I do not like facing characters whose attacks have so little lag just because how punish reliant Dedede is.
Mixing up your approach might've helped too. Seemed like you were going for the same set ups. I wasn't there, so I don't know that. No matter what, you handled it well.
Wasn't a fan of the commentator though. He didn't know diddly about Dedede...

I had a better one on stream but it never got uploaded and was lost forever :'(

comments and criticism welcome
I'm gonna be honest here.... Your opponent seemed like he just had no idea what he was doing. But at least you capitilized on it.

However, in the :4fox: match, you did a lot of incredibly unsafe things. If your opponent was a liitle more competent, the outcome of the match would have probably been in his favor. You tended to just throw out smashes and grabs. That's not really a good idea unless you're making a sure read. Your edgeguarding was good though, personally, I would have happily took him offstage more often, but what you did worked. Your gordo play was a bit risky, but I feel most of them were far enough away to where you could've reacted and reflected if you needed to.

The :4myfriends: match was just bad. Not for you, but for your opponent. I can't really say anything, because you didn't really need to do anything to win. If anything, almost always ban Battlefield. We just really don't like that stage.

It's honestly kind of hard to judge these matches since you and your opponent were so different skillwise, but hey, congrats on your win. Just know a lot of the stuff you did would NOT work on higher-up opponents.

Hi. I played on a Twitch stream the other night and was looking for some feedback from my matches. I have one random match with the streamer, and then two best of three sets from a tournament he was doing.

The first match, against Mega Man, is at 29:00 here: http://www.twitch.tv/wsgrandprix/v/7182488

The next is at about 2:55:06 set against someone who uses ROB and then Ness, where I won the set: http://www.twitch.tv/wsgrandprix/v/7188063

The final set, at about 3:06:27 is immediately after, which I lost, against another King Dedede (who also used Falco, DK, and Falcon, but, honestly, who cares about them? YAY DEDEDE!).

I wish I had a more convenient way to just show the matches besides asking people to sift through stream archives to the appointed moment, but this is the best I know how to do it for now. This was my first time trying a tournament-like setup with actual brackets, even if it was just a stupid fun thing online, and I found a local scene in my neighborhood I'd like to start going to in the coming weeks, so I'd like some advice on my play in this kind of situation before I go into something a little more real. Any feedback, positive or negative, is much appreciated!

Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the analysis. Yeah for sure there's really not much to say about the Ike match. He said afterwards he kinda just panic picked it without thinking. I'm going to keep going to weeklies and try to get some better matches on stream for next time.

@ shrooby shrooby I saw that Fox match against LarryLurr the other day. Ouch.
Advice:
Don't approach an airborne Fox from above. A skilled Fox will space that upair too well. If Fox is on the ground, feel free to approach. Also from my experience, it's better to force Fox to approach while you both are on playing on the ground. I know it'd be a little tougher with that Blaster custom, but His Majesty gotta punish. You know that.
