I think we have to use Ridley's tail size and Pikachu's size to know his real size

It has been estimated that it would be a tad taller than bowser at minimum.

There really isnt anything that hasnt been covered in this thread lol

If a playable Ridley was able to hover for as long as in the april direct... What would be the catch?

I mean, there is no way that mechanic would be left as that, it would have to have one or two disadvantages to keep it from getting broken. Even Meta Knight had his four specials leaving him vulnerable, and it wasnt enough. What could the developers have to do to ensure his hover is a powerful tool, but not broken?

Peach practically doesnt have a second jump to compensate, ROB has a fuel mechanic preventing it from recovering indefinitely, Pit could only execute his flight once. Ridley seems to have an even better air time than those.
Ridley would naturally have better air-time than everyone, that's his thing, he excels better in the air than possibly anyone else on the roster in their own canon. The catch would be to strike at him once he lands on the ground, he should be very clunky on ground and have quite a lot of landing lag on his moves. As Ridley you should aim to be in the air for as long as possible, that's where he should be strong and fast, therefore giving him a Peach-esque hover is a great idea, likewise your opponent should aim to force you down unto the ground via spiking or w/e, it shouldn't be too easy to take off with Ridley again afterwards. A reverse Little Mac if you will. It's a hard concept to properly balance though, but it can be done.

Huh, I thought he'd be a bit bigger honestly, at least being of Bowser's height. Not that I care terribly much, it works.

The question is how do you prevent an exesively defensive Ridley player from stalling the match by remaining out of reach?
Imagine he is winning by one point, he could jump off-stage and hover for like 10 second. There would have to be a catch that prevents a player from doing that.

I think it's just more that the Power of Flight works more like it does in Uprising compared to how it worked in Brawl. In Uprising Pit doesn't generally flaps his wings in any form he just moved in a direction through Palutena's
or Viridi's
power during the flight part of the stages.
This is definitely likely, but even so I still feel that Ridley should have his old command flight, it'd be much more fitting

For the most part that'd probably backfire. The player can easily jump out and spike him, or just knock him into the blast zone, and players are more easily punished at the ledge too, it wouldn't be much different from a Jigglypuff Pound stalling outside the edge, it's pretty easy to punish in reality.

If we're going to be on the safe side for sure he could go into a helpless state when the flight ends, ala Pit and R.O.B's Up-B, but that seems to defeat the purpose. The best way would probably just be to give him a really weak reaching Up-B like Peach to make it much less safe for him in the long run.

I honestly don't mind him not being bigger than Bowser, to be honest size is a bigger factor for Bowser's presence than it is for Ridley. Looking at how Ridley compares to Samus on the top platform I think that size fits fine.

...Detractor Devourer? I'm not THAT bad, am I? :awesome:

Also I'm amazed at how much people are trying to reject the jump in the footage. It is clear movement to the left straight horizontally, with a jump to the right. It's nothing like the jump Ridley had in Brawl, in which he moved to ground level, *VERY* clearly telegraphed, and rocketed into the air. This is like a character jump in just about every way.

And honestly, he may not *be* jumping out of his hover move. I'm not 100% sure WHERE he is in the stage, but I am pretty sure he's over by the platforms if his shadow goes left and offscreen past the center of the stage.

Here's another pic with my newest estimated Ridley size:
I'm sorry, but I still have a hard time believing that your new size estimate is the most accurate size for Ridley so far. I really doubt that Sakurai would make Ridley smaller than Samus if he wanted him playable.

He doesn't LOOK smaller than Samus. He just looks downscaled somewhat so that even with his wings he only takes up about as much room as Bowser, maybe slightly more. And even then is hunched forward to still be a little taller, going by the picture.

It just seems so small. I'll be glad if Ridley's in either way, but I always figured he would be the largest character, more like the one on the right side.

If Ridley is in, I Think he'll be more like in that comparison next to Bowser and Mario there. Tallest character, but not heaviest, as he is pretty thin.

A very big target, that's not THAT Heavy, but Amazing in the air and has great recovery. Should be pretty balanced, right?

Is it bad that I want Ridley in since the beginning simply because I want to wreck its ass with Samus?

I was reading GameFAQs last night on my iPod and saw someone say Little Mac was the final Nintendo All-Star that was finally playable.

He's either too big or too small, make your minds up!

I have Sakurai's Mii for a reason, because if this teasing has been for nothing...

Sounds like people on Gamefaqs haven't played a lot of video games. :awesome:

This isn't news to me.

News to me. Then again, I only checked out GameFAQs before for Disgaea help, which they're competent as hell at.

One of the reasons I want Ridley playable is just to watch the reactions of detractors. Not even to do anything to provoke them, just to see whether they take it calmly or go ballistic.

I dunno, whenever I go there, it's like people on Gamefaqs for the most part have either never played video games before, or have only played one or two and yet still demand the right to a valuable opinion on something whenever they don't know what they're talking about. Though I guess even Gamefaqs has to have "good places" in theory.

Also I'm definitely curious to see how detractors take it, though it's not like spiting detractors is my central motivation or anything. Especially after seeing how heavyweights were handled in terms of Bowser, I'm excited to play as Ridley in general.

At the very least, his tail thickness is the most accurate. Who knows, maybe Smashley has longer legs.

Guys, you gotta remember. We have no idea what model Ridley is using. Sure the tail is Roidley's, but Sakurai could have easily made a hybrid.

I can see Sakurai making his legs longer, if he Thinks the Other M Ridley looks too silly with the short legs and long arms. He did re-design the Other M Samus a Little, so I expect the same for Ridley.

@ Phaazoid Phaazoid
That is true. I kinda hope so, just to get his 'beak' bent down instead. ^^" I sorta don't like that part of his design much.

The tail with its many bumps seem to be of the Other M design, and a slight glance at his head before he stops up also looks like the Other M head. His wings are also very clearly the Other M wings, as they're much more expansive than they are for his other designs. Even then with him either being a playable character (thus having to share design with Samus) or appearing on Pyrosphere as a boss (an Other M location) I think it's a given he's going to be based off of Other M. There are probably a few tweaks here and there, if only texture tweaks like with Samus, but it's most certainly primarily going to be the Other M Ridley.

So, this might be dumb, but where is everyone (particularly @ Dalek_Kolt Dalek_Kolt ) getting the size comparisons from? Is it entirely shadow analysis based or is there more to it?
