To be fair, Darth Vader's suit didn't give him bombs and missiles. Meta Ridley can also take considerably more punishment than his fleshy form. I'd say Meta Ridley is a good middle ground between life support and enhancement.

Ridley was supposedly building Mecha Ridley to take over as the "Mother" of the Space Pirates after Mother Brain was killed.

Though the idea of the Space Pirates being a hivemind is a terrible one, and has been contested several times.

How likely is it that Ridley would have the Other M design for this game? If he is included, I can see him having the design to correlate with Samus's look. Since that's what we'll likely get with Link, Zelda and Ganon. I would like an updated Brawl design for Ridley though.

Definitely. That was the one thing I really couldn't stand about the Other M design was that upwards beak. It looked dumb. I thought the tail looked cool though.

I had never realized how dark Brawl Ridley looks. Like many, the Other M design is slowly growing on me, especially keeping in mind that Sakurai would hopefully tweak the design in order to make it fit better in the context of Smash (some of the spikes and the beak need to go). Also, Other Ridley looks like it would have an easier walk/dash to animate due to looking more natural on the ground than Brawdley.

That's pretty interesting. Though some tweaks on either design could work out for the better. Perhaps make the Other M version of Ridley have bigger eyes, and obviously, fix the beak to have it point downwards.

Is there a specific reason as to why everyone uses the "too big" argument on Ridley and not (at least as far as I know) King K. Rool, a character who is typically several times the size of Donkey Kong? And Donkey Kong is already one of the largest characters... So is there a reason that the argument is used for one and not the other, or is it just society being selectively stupid?

And it looks fine for King K Rool to look DK in the eye now? If anything, the transition for K. Rool would be more awkward, since he is always portrayed as being significantly larger than one of the largest characters in Smash, so unlike Ridley there isn't a lot of room to make him appear bigger.

Now don't get me wrong, I fully support K. Rool. Probably my 5th most wanted newcomer. I'm simply pointing out that if K. Rool has no issue being resized, than Ridley arguably has less of an issue.

To be perfectly honest, there is no way to know whether or not a character would be overpowered in Smash just based off their game appearances. We can't know exactly what kind of characteristics they'll give Ridley, even based on the source. If a characters overpowered nature translated into Smash, we'd probably see characters like Ganondorf and Mewtwo utterly dominating. Clearly though, that was not the case.

In the case of Ridley, balancing him could be a relatively simple task. My imagination of the character would have him be the largest character in the roster, just slightly bigger than Bowser, and would also be pretty powerful, but his wings and fairly thin body mass would make him lighter than one would expect of a character his size. This makes him an easy target to hit and rack up damage on, and as a result could be sent flying faster than expected. He would also be pretty slow on the ground, but very fast in the air, which is where Ridley would perform his best. This kind of style would allow Ridley to still have his trademark abilities of strength and speed while still balancing it out in ways that could work in Smash. But that's just how I would do it. Bottom line, a character's "overpoweredness" has no correlation on the characters chances of getting in, nor does it often translate into the Smash environment.

Since I'm new, I went back a few pages in this thread to see some of the stuff I missed, and found that anti-Ridley video. I watched like two minutes and my brain cells started jumping off cliffs. Then, because I'm an idiot, I started reading the comments section.

If you hate a character, just say so, don't make up bs reasons for them to not be in Smash. It's not canon anyway, so what does it matter if he's refitted for smash? Oh well, it was a good laugh.
