Like Fake Kraid from the original Metroid and Super? Not sure Kraid would be pleased if his winged reptile buddy were to copy his style like that.Missed all that clone talk yesterday, but it would be pretty awesome to run into mid-boss level fake Ridleys everywhere.
Ridley was behind the DDOS attacks. He does have trouble fitting into his chair though. Was it a DDOS attack that brought down Smashboards?
Or was it Ridley being too big that crashed the server?
Questions that keep me up at night.
But I know the answer.
It's Ridley.
Because he's too big.
Ridley is too big.
No, it was just people jumping the gun. He threw out a reference to Other M and people misinterpreted it big time.I don't remember- Did Sakurai ever say Ridley will make an appearance on this stage?
How did you not immediately realize that? Was it a DDOS attack that brought down Smashboards?

I'm 85% sure that Sakurai stated somewhere that it was Sonic's crazy hype in the west that helped him get in.No, Japanese fans where bat**** insane for Sonic to. Ridley is a US / West only thing.
Japan has different tastes than us mostly. What they are, I have no idea of. At least they seem to support both Dixie and K.Rool, which is what I remembered. You could ask ChronoBound though. I also remember Roy being a lottt more popular in Japan to. Which is logical actually.I have a question, who is the most requested character from the east (Japan) and from Europe?
.n_n.

Europe is really quiet, but as you can see, Wariofan1 and me mingle in opinions much with US supporters. I've noticed most Isaac supporters aren't from the US though for some reason. Isaac could be a little more popular around here, cause Europe is generally iffy on RPGs, but loved Golden Sun nonetheless.
I think that's why... But why that's the case is kind of lost on me.I wonder why Ridley isn't very popular in Japan. Is Metroid not very popular over there?
Metroid isn't very popular over there. Never has been. We could spend all day speculating on why that is....I wonder why Ridley isn't very popular in Japan. Is Metroid not very popular over there?
Yeah... Of course the Prime games are even less liked over there than the other Metroid games, probably because (aside from being American-made) they see them as generic shooters or something despite the adventure, puzzle, lore heavy, etc. elements the Prime trilogy has.Metroid isn't very popular over there. Never has been. We could spend all day speculating on why that is....
But it has lasers and space dragons and... uh...... yeah, I think those two reasons are sufficient.Yeah... No way, didn't try to imply that either. But let's be real, not even Mewtwo is Sonic popular.Ridley really isn't Sonic-popular...
Metroid losts its popularity in Japan after Super Metroid. With its big hiatus people seemingly lost interest in the franchise, and it certainly didn't help that the not very popular in Japan first person shooter/adventure genre took the leading front for the series to come. Not really sure why Fusion and Zero Mission didn't do well in Japan though, times probably just changed for the Japanese audience.I wonder why Ridley isn't very popular in Japan. Is Metroid not very popular over there?
1) Metroid was based on an American film, Alien.Metroid isn't very popular over there. Never has been. We could spend all day speculating on why that is....
Doubt that has anything to do with it. Perhaps it's the general setting of the series, or the fact that the series has always been a shooter, or the focus on exploration?1) Metroid was based on an American film, Alien.
... How many Japanese gamers would even know/care about that? There are plenty of reasons but I doubt that's really an important one.1) Metroid was based on an American film, Alien.
I was about to make a comment about Saber's armor, but then I was reminded of the Fate series' origins, and now I'm not too sure.I also think it has something to do with Samus's boobs not being able to jiggle in that Power Suit. I bet the series would be 2000% more popular, and Ridley would've been in Smash for SNES already.![]()
Other M did worse in Japan then it did here.Other M was the game designed for the Japanese audience. everything we hate about Other M, the Japanese audience wants to see in a video game. unfortunately, it's still a Metroid game, so it didn't do well anyway.
the Japanese gamer has very strange taste. that's the only way I can describe it. Metroid just isn't their game.
Other M did worse in Japan then it did here.
So your logic has some holes...

also there is a special layer of hell that we are all doomed to for making these hole punsThe fact that it was Metroid and the hottest thing at the time made it sell better in the 'States. Japan, however, didn't complain nearly as much. Probably because they have different beliefs and norms regarding authority, and as Prime wasn't as critically acclaimed there, they probably didn't really compare the two (which is more than most can say in the rest of the world).
Also in case no one else already drew the connection I made on the Smash 4 Social thread:
