Ah yes, those two. Have 'em added on Facebook but never really go there anymore. Loss of interest for social networking sites I guess. For some reason though I was expecting at least one of them to be back here temporarily after SSB4's first trailer, whether it be Stryks dancing around over Megaman's confirmation or Rey making another sexist rant of some kind about Other M upon seeing talk about it here like her usual feminist self. Then after the argument all of us Ridley pre-Brawlers would have some kind of bittersweet reunion or something, that hopefully wouldn't lock this thread.

So guys, Sakurai delays his pic today and discusses about characters highs. And this year is Metroids aniversairy. (25?)

I don't visit Ridley's Church often, but today might be the day for him to be summoned.

nooo, I think if more than like 2 or 3 from the old days ever came back this thread would have like a week xD.

well, it's luigi, not ridley. I guess the "height" thing was supposed to hint at luigi since he's taller then mario, oh well for ridley.

Remember, they can tease us now, and not even tell us he is in the game. It may be possible that we'll see Ridley even without Nintendo muttering a word about him.

Plus there's a new leak thread. I believe it 95%, but seeing that some things on the list were true - eh, its too early to call. Leak threads are just something to compare to, I guess.

Yeah, I expect a bunch of veterans and even newcomers before a potential Ridley reveal, heck he could even be an unlockable. I'm expecting new series representants to take the spotlight for some time. On the other hand, it's stupid to try and predict anything from Sakurai. WFT as one of the first newcomers, Luigi as a starter, etc.

Yup. It is kind of a wild one. http://smashboards.com/threads/another-ssb4-rumor-update-yet-another-leak.338842/

Oh that, WiiLuvU is a fake and has caused commotions with fake leaks in the past, and InfiniteGTX claimed that the next character reveal would be a Pokémon character, but it was Luigi. None of those two are legit, they're just like the thousand of Brawl "prophets."
Yup, that's why I called it wild. XD
Anyway, its nice to compare what we thought of compared to them.

Probably a random character if we get one, IIRC there's no games or special events for that month so whoever it is probably will be a surprise.

Yeah, W101 is coming out Sept. 15 in NA, which is pretty poor timing considering what else is coming out around then... but the other regions are getting it at the end of August.

Anyway, last time I checked, this was a Ridley thread. So please try to stay on topic, there are other places to discuss this kind of stuff. ;)

Besides the "size" issue, wouldn't someone of prior-boss experience be powerful? Perhaps too powerful?
This is assuming all the existing characters are around the same levels of "power" which is clearly untrue. Canon power or strength doesn't matter for Smash, Sakurai tries to balance them all equally regardless of how strong they might've been previously or in their series of origin.

SSE won't continue into SSB4, so what happened in SSE won't be canon in SSB4. Either way, Samus can defeat Ridley alone, and she's not the most powerful Nintendo character either, so yeah.

Plus, Ganondorf, potentially one of the strongest characters outside of the Smash universe, is at the bottom of the tier list. Power doesn't matter, only if they have godly powers, which Ridley doesn't have.

Past that, would a dragon-like character look awesome with a big-explosive attack? I do know about Sakurai's balancing, but there comes a point where some characters look silly when their attacks don't match what they truly represent.

Why would Ridley have a big explosion attack in the first place? Even then, Ness has one, and that's not silly.

With the exception of the Mother characters and Ganondorf, I'd say Sakurai is pretty good at staying loyal to the characters when representing them through movesets. I wouldn't worry about him doing proper justice to Ridley.

Because he doesn't represent a gigantic monster, like Bowser. Ness represents a kid who has extraordinary abilities, maybe even his potential is higher than we think.

Having played Earthbound it's quite clear that Ness is one of the most powerful characters in Smash Bros, so I'm sure I know his potential. Ridley doesn't need to make a random explosion or anything if Sakurai actually sticks to what moves Ridley actually uses in Metroid.

I can see Meta-Ridley having a random explosive attack due to the kind of arsenal that he has, but not the regular Ridley. As for Brawl Ridley (as well as the Meta form in the game), he didn't even fight like his regular self, so I wouldn't worry about someone with prior boss experience in Smash being too powerful. The only attack of SSE Ridley's that I remember liking anyway was the tail scraping across the floor thing. Other than that he just had a gimmicky wind gust move which he never used before in Metroid and a fly out of the background attack a la Master Hand... Didn't even have his classic fireballs while Meta-Ridley lacked the missiles and bombs that he had in the first Prime, so I would say even as a boss Sakurai didn't make him "powerful enough".

I feel obligated to point out that the "too big" argument has nothing to do with his size, but his size in relation to other characters. Ridley isknown as a giant dragon. We've seen him as a giant dragon. Olimar, despite being small, hasn't been seen in relation to the other characters. It's seen as more "believable" for Olimar.

I'm not trying to start anything or say this is actually correct, since what's "believable" is all down to your own opinion anyway, just pointing out that the argument isn't quite as simple as "Ridley is too big hurr durr." I don't think anyone's ever actually used that argument seriously.

Well, people definitely have used the argument seriously, but I think some detractors use the argument without fully thinking about its logical conclusion.

But yeah, I completely agree with you and I've pointed this out as well... The most common argument against "Too Big" is "Olimar", and I think they're both really bad arguments and irrelevant to Ridley's inclusion.

So, yeah, the important thing is that Ridley be made to look significantly larger than Samus. And that's totally doable.

Yeah, well, most of the people who use that argument jump on it because it requires little thought to use and generally don't actually have much of anything to add to the thread. I don't care if you're for or against Ridley, as long as you just discuss stuff logically and without flaming xD.

while it's true, Ridley's been shown as much larger than most of the characters, he's also been shown at a good playable size, in the melee trailer. Sure, it's not as recent, but it's still the same developer giving him a nod.

Now you're making me think that it'd be quite funny to see Olimar's actual size in relation to the rest of the cast though xD.
