The NES Ridley wasn't that bad looking in-game/in sprite form, so much as the concept art of it was.Even....... THIS ONE?:

Ah, I see. It doesn't surprise me that they brought up the 'shadow' from the Direct, considering how infamous it is in the Smash fanbase.Oh no, they did bring up Ridley...
I'm Japanese not great, but I transcribed the text to put through a translator:
But yes, they most certainly allude to what has been said about him. I'm starting to think they may be hyping Ridley up as the greatest stage boss of all time. That said, they may know as little as us and have just chucked that in as they are a bit confused by the lack of anything to say about it. In which case it's neutral to this whole point.
I'm very curious if we have any native speakers who could give us a bit of context for this. Here's the text itself:
灼熱に包まれた溶岩の地。浮かぶ台座と、小さめの足場がいくつかという比較的シンプルなステージだが、強大な「何者か」の影を見たという情報も…?詳しい仕掛けなどは未だ不明だが、ステージの構造自体はそれほど複雑ではない。
Also, better tell you guys now.
I'm not really proud of it, but...
I used to be a Ridley detractor.![]()
I as I've kept saying on this thread, I seriously doubt they'd hype a stage boss like that, and the speculation that they generated (that he was playable) would have surely gotten them to end it early and show him early if he were simply a stage boss, because they've made it clear that they don't like to leave such speculation alive and kicking. Leaving it for a year if Ridley were not playable doesn't make sense with anything that they've done.As Lizardon said, there's no point hyping a stage boss, especially considering it's more of a downgrade from a main boss, since stage bosses are basically special types of stage hazards. Also, I think it might be hinting at him being revealed on that stage, like in a trailer or something. But you still bring up a good point.
It's alright man. You probablly had your reasons, but it's good to know that even a detractor can have a change of heart!![]()
That's actually a pretty cool idea! With the mention of Final Smashes for Ridley, someone before suggested Ridley could do something similar to Samus, firing a laser of some kind (plasma beam). I do like that idea better than a space raid (I just don't like summon FS's), but to make it not a Samus clone FS,
inb4 Landmasters for everyonewhy not give Ridley Lucario's FS from Brawl? With Lucario now having a Mega evolution, his old FS could be given to Ridley. I think it would be perfect for him to fly up offscreen, position himself high above the stage, charge a Plasma Beam, and let loose.
I have a suspicion that they've been given no more information than us on this front. An argument could be made that they asked for clarification of the shadow, and were told there would be no comment, but even then you can't really draw any more from that than we already know, and what we already know means it's hugely unlikely that they'd tease Ridley that way for him only to be a stage boss.Ah, I see. It doesn't surprise me that they brought up the 'shadow' from the Direct, considering how infamous it is in the Smash fanbase.
I still think this seems to be good news for Ridley, because they would have outright stated he was a hazard and showed pictures of him if that shadow was meant to 100% disconfirm him.
It's kind of strange how they never brought up his name, though. It seemed pretty obvious that it was him, and he's certainly no obscure Nintendo character.
Meh, I don't believe it meant "Stage Hazardley". By the time that magazine was printed, there's no way in the underworldWell with PeterJude's posted translation, my hope for playable Ridley just plummeted even further somewhat.

The point here though is that a few were starting to speculate about there being no mention of Ridley, they they most certainly had alluded to him. Based on them mentioning the shadow, I seriously doubt they have any more information than we do, so it's pretty much a no score draw on that one.
...That's mean. You're starting to sound like a detractor. ;_;
Another user here XKan posted their translation.snip
I've got a bad feeling...1.) A level wrapped in burning lava. It is a relatively simple map with a suspended platform and few places to stand --but also the mighty shadow of someone can be seen...
2/3.) Details of this stage's gimmicks are still unknown, but we do know that the stage itself is not complex.
That doorbell sound at the end must've been Ridley.*Copyright Schalternate
Uh...Land of lava wrapped in burning. It's a relatively simple stage and pedestal float, scaffolding smaller that some, but also information that saw the shadow of the "someone" mighty ...? Such as detailed gimmick is unknown yet, but the structure of the stage is not very complicated.
Actually, that makes me feel pretty good. If the stage isn't that complicated, then its boss (assuming it has one) would have to be very simple. And why would you tease and build up a very simple boss, especially as that is a downgrade from the Ridley of old.Another user here XKan posted their translation.
I've got a bad feeling...
A video? Oh my. "Leakers" are getting more crafty.
You'd think you could at least see a portion of the Metroid Emblem, you can barely see the others... And of course all these damned sources just tease. Take with agrainheaping RIdley-sized salt.
I can't comment on the reliability of the translation but I interpreted it as meaning that the stage layout itself is not complicated, but the stage's gimmick is unknown. Things just got more interesting. The only difference from the leak earlier this week is that we're getting video footage. Looks fake, but gonna wait and see how it plays out. Those leakers sure are getting really good at tricking us.

Since... What?I felt something. . . a presence I have not felt since. . .
Classic Ridley kills the leak.

Can't say I know, this is the first time I've come across this video, the render does look similar to his Brawl model if you ask me.Wait...this is proven to be fake, right? And we've seen that Ridley render somewhere before, right?..
It sure is convenient that these Metal Sonic and Ridley videos don't have any of the other newcomers in the other player slots.

"Huh? Where's Ridley?"Did anyone see those Nintendo Dream scans, in which they had a little section on Pyrosphere and they never brought up Ridley appearing on the stage at all? And yet when they got to Dr. Wily's Castle, they went into detail about the Yellow Devil?

...Yeah.
Convincing as ****.

Literally the description is "Totally not fake."Convincing as ****.
That's it folks, the war has been won.
We travelled a long journey together, but we've finally made it...
... Just kidding! Get back to work ya slackers, we're not done yet!![]()

Needs to be MK8 DLC
That was meWow... dat Magic School Bus reference.
Anyways, I'd rather we NOT bring up that "Roster of Evil" (: Great!) and instead talk about this. To be honest I think Ridley is their big ticket reveal, along side Shulk, and will probably be the last thing they show before release, as in, a direct the day before release in Japan.Ugh, just any kind of confirmation would be good at this point...
I'm tired of being jerked around...
Yes, that is what it meant. The stage, physically, is simple, but details of the gimmick are unknown. : )I can't comment on the reliability of the translation but I interpreted it as meaning that the stage layout itself is not complicated, but the stage's gimmick is unknown. The fact that they alluded to the shadow and commented on the stage's gimmick being unknown...I can't interpret that as meaning anything good.
I am not really too confident in my own abilities, but both @Hong and @Venus of the Desert Bloom have verified earlier translations I have done regarding Famitsu pages, if that helps at all. Of course, fluency is always the best to turn to, but I do not want to trouble him with more than he likely already has to deal with...Personally I'd turn to someone fluent to translate, such as @Venus of the Desert Bloom
Though I think he might already be working on all the other scans.
