I just had an interesting thought. At this point, it seems very likely that we'll get a Direct with a newcomer reveal sometime in the very near future. And on top of that, Ridley seems like a prime candidate to reveal for such a Direct.

So, for all we know, we may finally get Ridley in Smash within a week or so.

Yeah, probably. Unless Nintendo has them under strict orders they might. I heard some stores already got their copies of the 3DS Version for Day One sales. So CoroCoro most likely has a copy, too....

Some Gamestops are going to be running a Smash event in a couple of weeks (where I live, it's the biggest store in the area).

If you guys go to that event, go early, get your play time out of the way, then go talk to the Nintendo rep overseeing it.

CoroCoro is not going to leak anything. They can't leak anything. Nintendo takes the secrecy of this stuff way too seriously. Heck, look at the treehouse. Even in-company, people have to play this stuff behind closed doors. Nintendo literally has a team that hunts down leaks, determines who in the company made the leak, and they will terminate jobs over that (and they are good at tracking down even anonymous leaks).

For CoroCoro to have anything to leak, they would have to be performing corporate espionage on Nintendo, which would get them sued into the Stone Age.

They have whatever Nintendo gives them and authorizes them to present, and nothing else. Even if they have a review copy of the game, the reviewer would be under a NDA even with his own coworkers. Copies of this game are closely monitored by Nintendo when they are given out or even just demoed.

If Ridley is revealed, it's either going to be as a post-release hidden character (which, from one point of view, makes sense; it would reveal him as hype to the American fans who want him more during the gap) or it will be revealed by Sakurai.

If they did talk about Pyrosphere it would've been really obvious if Ridley is playable or not. If they said he's a boss then that would be the end of it. The cruel bitter end. But if they completely ignored him well that would be very suspicious and most likely give it away.

Cool, you use Adobe Illustrator as well? Is that CS6 or is it a Mac version of CS5 (mine is in grey and on PC)? I use CS5, mainly for designing logos.

It is Adobe Ilustrator....and for me, that I never used programs like these to trace or make drawings (I'm a traditional artist...)....it is a confusing and living Hell....

Heh. I use GIMP, which is a whole lot less complex than what you are using. At least, it feels that way, probably because I'm used to it.

No potential newcomers left have any real gigantic popularity left.

All they generally agree upon is Mewtwo coming back, lol.

Also, Japanese smashers aren't that big into smash.

There are probably more smashers in the states of New York and California than Japan.

At best 1/15th of Smashers live in Japan.

Nope. They said the same thing with Brawl and they just showed everything we already knew. So expect the 36 newcomers we already know. MAYBE we'll get one or two veterans, but I honestly don't think so.

Sakurai probably wants to reveal the newcomers in an exciting way, not in a lame magazine page.

My moneys on Sakurai revealing him before, it makes no sense to wait till after release, I'm pretty sure even if most of Ridley's fans are Western there's still a fair amount in Japan that would want him, plus like others have said, do you honestly think Salurai would allow the first screenshots of Ridley to be through a low quality phone picture? Someone would leak Ridley if he was playable, weather it be a Japanese gamer or someone from outside Japan with a Japanese 3DS. If Ridley gets in I can bet he's going to get a trailer.

I honestly don't get why people keep saying Ridley will be hidden, unless you go into radio silence as soon as someone in Japan or a Japanese 3DS owner unlocks Ridley everything who cares will know. So it just limits the surprise to Japanese gamers and people who own a Japanese 3DS and plan to get the game on launch.

Brawl had a 12 secrets (via its website), and they were . So I wouldn't worry if Ridley isn't revealed before release, I'd just be worried for Sakurai's mental state, because that'd be such a stupid move to not reveal him earlier. It would up sales so much. But that isn't the point. The point is Ridley could still be a secret character (I'm already banking on Mewtwo as one of the secrets but this isn't that thread).

Really, your sure its a Smash 4 event? If so I have to go if there's one close by me.

I would have no issue with having all the newcomers officially revealed before launch, actually. I mean, I'm going to know the full roster anyways, so I might as well have Sakurai spoil them for me with high quality pictures hidden in spoilers, just like he did with Brawl.

I can see something in the lines of "Pic of the day. This is the whole roster, hidden characters included. Open at your own risk!" happening. Actually I can't, but I'd love to see it happen.

But back to the topic, I think that Ridley should be revealed in a huge trailer with tons of people watching, so a Direct would be the best possible time to do so. I mean, he is by far the most requested character in the series, you just don't want the surprise to be ruined like that.

The main thing people are likely looking forward to is if they give any new info on pyrosphere, pretty sure corocoro went back on the statement of it being 3DS only, but others have said that's not the case recently, so no idea.
