This round feels simpler compared to the prior one. Bowser Jr. feels like the next natural choice for a Mario fighter (Daisy also works). Meta Knight is a popular character from the Kirby franchise. I went with Knuckles as he seems like a more interesting from the four major supporting characters.

A couple obvious choices in Diddy Kong and Charizard, then a couple new faces to spice things up. Midna further diversifies the Zelda crew and Gholdengo is just a fun new Pokemon that I thought would make for an interesting addition. I decided it might be a good idea to pick up the slack on Pokemon a bit at this stage, since I was content with how most of the other series on the roster have been represented thus far.

For this round, I was contemplating among Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Pokemon. Because I‘m fine holding off Daisy and Waluigi for now, I wanted to prioritize something else over Fire Emblem, and I’m trying to treat Pokemon as a somewhat third party franchise in this scenario, I decided to add fighters from the Legend of Zelda. Skull Kid and Midna are popular one-off characters, and Sidon is a notable character from the newer games.

Well, I kinda jumped the gun adding onto Zelda and Pokemon I think. Doesn't give me a lot of options to build upon, so I'm just gonna double down on Mario some more. Daisy and Bowser Jr make sense for obvious reasons, they've already been in Smash and are also fixtures of the most recent mainline Mario title, and I just plain like Waluigi. Perhaps this is laying on the Marioverse just a little thick, but I don't think there's anything wrong with this as is.

At this point, I’m prioritizing on building upon franchises that I currently have on my roster. Super Mario feels like it can always have more fighters, and Daisy is a notable character who’s appeared in many spinoffs and a couple platforming games. I entertained the idea of Marth, but Alear could be an interesting fighter who has a mechanic like Joker’s. Oatchi and Octoling are more or less ways to build up Pikmin and Splatoon. I think there is room for another third party, and Sora is my fighter of choice in this scenario.

Mostly supplemental characters for major series, with one new series - Wii Fit. I figured WFT is a sufficient legacy pick to represent the Wii era, while the others are major or popular characters from their respective series. Since Pokemon started out behind, I figured I'd throw it another bone with Greninja. And Marth is here as the original face of Fire Emblem, to establish more of a legacy pick to balance Tiki's more eccentric role. KK Slider and DJ Octavio might be a little controversial, but since I came at this roster with the premise that I was working from scratch... I think Animal Crossing and Splatoon are two of Nintendo's keystone series and warrant a really sufficient batch of characters if the roster is gonna get this big. KK fights with his guitar and Octavio... is a big ass octopus, he can be a mech character if you'd like too.

For this round, my priorities for Super Mario (and Wario) and Legend of Zelda were to narrow down to the most prominent fighters. For Fire Emblem, I went with Byleth because of Three Houses, and I brought back Lucina to give us the Marth style moveset. I don’t think there was much flexibility for Kirby or Pokemon in this scenario. For Animal Crossing, I just wanted to bring back Isabelle, but Tom is unfortunately removed because of my conflicting priorities. Splatoon stays as is given that Octoling is more or less an honorary echo in this situation. In the case of Xenoblade, I think both fighters are important and distinct enough to maintain their spots here. From the franchises relevant specifically during the Switch era, I think ARMS and Ring Fit Adventure were the most prominent ones to maintain. I like Isaac, but Golden Sun is less prominent compared to Mother, Star Fox, and Punch Out!! Barring Kazuya, I just kept the most prominent third parties, and I brought back Cloud given Final Fantasy’s popularity.
