Got you. Welcome to the thread!

I'd be OK with it, but like others have said, I don't think it would make sense to give Diddy's jetpack to Dixie when she has never used anything like it. Plus, she already has her hair-copter for an obvious recovery move. I can see her getting the rest of his specials, though, with the Peanut Popguns being replaced with the Bubblegum Popguns. However, she would be so broken if she got access to the Banana Peel ON TOP of everything else.
Agree about the jetpack. I probably should have specified that.

Again, I think Dixie's moveset is quite easy to figure out, and Dixie's signature move HAS to be part of it. That right there would be so unique its not even funny. Now, I doubt her ponytail whirl would deal a lot of damage, but it would still be very cool and be an excellent recovery.

Yeah, I also think she should have a different Down Special. Personally, I think her Down Special should be her guitar, like others have stated, where she strikes a chord and sends a shockwave forward. As for the Side Special, I was thinking of a grapple that looks and functions similar to the Cat-O'-Nine-Tails enemy in DKC2. Dixie spins forward and grabs the opponent with her hair, and spins them around a few times before throwing them (in the air, she throws them straight downwards). I think that her Up Special should be the thing that incorporates her trademark helicopter spin. I can see her spin upwards, creating a mini-tornado around her (similar to Little Mac's Up Special, except with more vertical momentum), and after she finishes with that, she transitions into the classic spin.

Sorry I disagree on the side special, did you catch what I said before?

Dixie's ponytail whirl from Tropical Freeze is her Up special. I really think that her side special should be her classic ponytail whirl, though, where she has unlimited flight until she gets hit or hits the ground. Naturally when she falls out of this one she goes into freefall, but perhaps her up special ponytail whirl can be combo'd into her side special. Now, again, I don't think it'd deal any knockback at all, although it could deal some damage.

Yeah, I caught what you said before, I just respectfully disagree. The reason why I prefer my idea for the Up-Special is that she basically would get the same thing as your Side-Special after she finishes the initial move, and she could have another move entirely for a Side-Special. As for the Tropical Freeze style ponytail whirl, I was thinking that could be represented in multiple midair jumps, like Pit or Dedede. I'm thinking that Dixie could be a slower, but versatile ground fighter who can quickly transition into a mobile aerial game. She racks up damage on the ground, but has more kill options in the air. However, this is just my opinion. Yours is fine, too.

Oh, after she finishes it? Hmm... I supposed that could work. I didn't think of that, thanks for bringing it up. Ok, that sounds plausible.

I still think K. Rool will get announced first, Dixie might be secret. But I'm feeling very good about two DK reps now (just keep in mind Lucina was basically a late addition, converted from skin to barely different playable character).

What if her double jump is the Tropical Freeze whirl?

It wouldn't cause helplessness, so Dixie is able to do crazy stunts in the air, jumping fast and gliding slow with her Side Special.
The icing on the cake would be a back aerial like R.O.B for more momentum tricks.

I agree. K. Rool is a much higher-profile newcomer, so he would get announced first. With Gematsu's accuracy having fallen because of outdated information, I'm still hopeful for 2 DK newcomers. However, on the flip-side, since Gematsu is less credible now, I'm worried that we may no longer have the safety net of DLC to fall back on. Gematsu was the reason why I believed in the possibility.

That's what I was talking about with the Tropical Freeze whirl. Also, I think that she should also have multiple jumps like Pit to help keep her in the air. I also love your idea about her aerials giving her R.O.B.-style momentum shifts to improve her aerial mobility.

Dixie should be able to stay in the air longer by pressing Jump again to do her Helicopter Spin similary to how Peach floats.

Does anyone have a banner I could grab? I'm liking the idea of Dixie more and more every day. :)

I suppose that's a possibility as well, but then what will Dixie's recovery be? I like the idea better of her just having a regular double jump, with her recovery being the helicopter twirl from Tropical Freeze. Holding in the recovery turns it into her traditional helicopter twirl and she can float down until she lands or gets knocked out of it.

Squawks can be her UpB; she'll use him like in DKC2. That's an even better recovery. Her ponytail whirl can activate the way Peach floats.

Squawks... HOLY **** I never thought about that. That... that would actually be COOL. Right, I like that idea; her double jump is her ponytail whirl from Tropical Freeze, and if you hold it in she descends into her classic ponytail whirl, with Squawks picking her up for her recovery. I already anticipated that she'd probably get Rambi or Squitter as her Final Smash.

If Dixie Kong were to have the Banana Peel move from Diddy's moveset, how do you guys think they would be differentiated?
I really can't see any way to differentiate between two different Banana Peels.

Come on peoplez! I need a banner for my sig! :)

I bet this has been suggested before, but I've always liked of the idea of making Dixie more unique by having her "borrow" the abilities that her younger sister Tiny uses in DK64. Mainly I thought that Dixie could take on the "Feather Crossbow" as her standard b and the ability to shrink as her down b.

I really think having a character being able to shrink and then grow on demand would open the door for countless strategies, but, of course, it would be a risk-reward sort of thing. While you would be harder to hit or run down, you're more easily knocked back and are more susceptible to being KOed in general by moves that wouldn't kill in you in your "normal" state. So, lol, it's basically the same thing as taking a poison mushroom, but you'll be able to cancel the effects at anytime in this case with some lag afterwards.

The only problem with Dixie getting Tiny's "feather" crossbow is that Dixie got her own Gumball Popgun in Tropical Freeze, which has SO much more Dixie can do with it. The Gumball is a thing special to Dixie anyway; in the originals Dixie was constantly chewing gum, she would blow bubbles as part of her idle animation, and she would blow a bubble to trade places with Diddy and Kiddy. I think the Gumball Popgun makes far more sense for Dixie.

For the Gumball Popgun itself, I think Dixie could shoot it and the gum sticks to to the ground and slows people down or even just makes them get stuck, leaving them vulnerable.

Shrink could be Dixie's Down+B, I just don't see how it'd be useful. Guitar would probably be better I think.

Ah okay, I didn't know about the Popgun. That would definitely be more fitting. Tropical Freeze is one of the first games I'm buying once I can afford the Wii U.

Hm, I suppose there's nothing beneficial about taking a poison mushroom is there? But perhaps the ability to command the shrinking could become very useful in that it could be a different way to "dodge" attacks on the fly. I definitely think it could provide the player with beneficial options when playing defensively.

I gotta credit @Arcadenik for that idea. Before then I was gonna pitch a modified Spinning Kong, but Squawks is good cuz he provides some visual variety to her hypothetical moves.

So we got: UpB Squawks, Side B Ponytail Slide, double jump Tropical Freeze whirl and R.O.B aerials.

So while Diddy bananas all over your face, Dixie makes you dizzy with her ability to switch speed in the air pretty fast.
You could even make it so that her aerials fasten her air speed.

So I'm still looking for a Dixie banner, but one that doesn't have the flashing name. Can ANYONE help me out here? Or alternatively, could someone show me how to combine images together since apparently I can only have up to 5 in my signature?

There is an entire thread dedicated to making these, there are plenty for Dixie there. I'll go find the thread and give you the link.

Dixie is very possibly my most wanted newcomer. It's either her or K. Rool.
Same here. Actually, for whatever reason, I'm essentially supporting the combination of both of them. I'm very hopeful of both Dixie and K. Rool making it.

Ditto, they both could, and both should be included.

Even then, there's still plenty of awesome DK characters to choose for future installments.

Guys, when making a moveset for Dixie, we should probably take into account her trophy descriptions from Melee and Brawl.

"More than just Diddy Kong's girlfriend, Dixie Kong is also a fearless adventurer and a reliable team player. She earned her wings helping Diddy rescue Donkey Kong from the clutches of King K. Rool. Dixie's amazingly quick and nimble, and she's even able to twirl her ponytail in order to float slowly through the air." - Melee

"Diddy Kong's cutie of a girlfriend with an adorable blond ponytail. That ponytail is hardly for show—it helps propel her through the air for extended hang time and is indispensable for spin-attacking enemies and lifting barrels. Watch out—Dixie packs more power than you might imagine!" - Brawl

It appears Dixie would have a lot of aerial mobilty because "she's able to twirl her ponytail in order to float slowly through the air" or "propel her through the air for extended hang time". It also appears she is "quick and nimble" and "packs more power than you might imagine". She also uses her hair for "spin-attacking enemies". Though I wonder if "lifting barrels" with her hair could be used in her moveset.

Before Lucina I thought it was impossible, we were only going to get one newcomer per franchise. Now I'm not so sure.

That said, I have realized it IS possible for Dixie to be done the same way Lucina is; planned as a skin, made into a clone. Diddy's signature trait is his jet barrels... but other Kongs HAVE used rocket barrels/barrel jetpacks before. Dixie is the first to ever use a rocket barrel of any sort, after all, final level of Krematoa, anyone? Not to mention DK: Barrel Blast.

I'm just hoping that Sakurai realizes DK is big enough to get four characters, and both K. Rool and Dixie are too iconic not to leave one or the other out.

Hey guys, according to this list, how would Dixie Kong classify/play? (hybrid classes are possible):

Zoner - Character whose strength lies in forcing their opponent to stay in a certain area. Ex: :4marth:

Ranger - Character whose strength lies in their ranged attacks to force opponents to keep their distance. Ex: :4link:

Speedster - Character whose strength lies in their speed and ability to overwhelm their opponents with relentless attacks. Ex: :4pikachu:

Trickster - Character whose strength lies in a quirky moveset that is hard to predict and can alter the battle field. Ex: :4villager:

Bruiser - Character whose strength lies in devastating attacks to quickly finish off opponents. Ex: :4falcon:

Resistor - Character whose strength lies in super armor that allows them to tank hits to strike down opponents. Ex: :4bowser:

Puppeteer - Character whose strength lies in overwhelming opponents with relentless attacks stopping opponents from striking back. Strength in numbers. Ex: :rosalina:

Juggler - Character whose strength lies in being able to string combos together to finish off opponents. Ex: :4luigi:

I'd say Dixie would be a cross between Zoner/Trickster. For example, I think K. Rool would be Trickster/Bruiser.

I was originally going to say Speedster/Trickster, but then I realized that Dixie generally isn't as fast as Diddy. Diddy is the Speedster/Trickster, and his main tricks are in his banana peels. I think Dixie's main tricks would be her Gumball Popgun to slow down players and use her hair attacks and twirls to distract players and also get them into positions where she can pummel them.

Dixie I imagine being similar to Sonic in one respect: MANY of her attacks would look very similar to one other, because she'd have her regular Ponytail Whirl, and her twirling dash attack. The only problem with Dixie is her recovery; its hard to tell if her recovery would be her Ponytail Whirl, or Squawks. Both would work fine, and Dixie appeared in the first game where Squawks was a full-fledged Animal buddy, so its a nice nod to her.

At the same time, relying on Squawks isn't relying on Dixie's own abilities. So that might be something Sakurai wouldn't consider and would just rather give Dixie a Ponytail Whirl recovery instead or just not use her at all, although I'd hope he'd see plenty of potential in her other abilities rather than make her a clone.

Spammy Toon Link wouldn't get far with it.
Dixie can approach easily in the air and grab him.

Toon Link has around the same range as Dixie's Ponytail moves (if not all moves, judging by Diddy)
I'd say 50/50.

How about fighting her teammate :4dk:?
I think Dixie would be able to handle DK quite well due to being faster overall than him she'd be able to jump all over him. That said, she might not be able to knock him away too easily... I think she'd have a good match, but still probably 60/40. If DK has been bumped up, it might end up being 50/50. I hope most matches end up 50/50, too.
