The only reason I'm still wondering is because of them not being usable online. Would the roster itself change shape or size, or would the Mii's in generally have their own spot, similar to Mario & Sonic at the Olympics, or Mario Kart?

Probably the latter, considering they could just but like a "Locked Icon" atop the Mii's spot in With Anyone Mode, making them unchooseable.

I would be the saddest panda if Lucas was cut and we only had 1 Mother rep. I told the Nintendo reps that when I went to smash fest yesterday. They looked at me with a face that said they had no idea what MOTHER was. I fear for the NintenFuture.

To avoid a potential mess, please avoid discussing what characters could be DLC for now and focus on the likelihood of DLC based on the context of the leak. We don't know the full roster yet, and there is still a whole forum full of unconfirmed character threads.

To be fair, that's likely because most everyone here either supports the Sal leak, or expected something like this. I can't say I'm exactly thrilled with this roster, but I learned back when Brawl came out to appreciate what you get, and chances are, even the things you hate might positively surprise you.

I don't envy your jobs though close to game release and the 47 character roster becomes wide spread lol.

I will say, I wonder if the CSS will change size wise at all...or more accurately, the selection panels for Player 1-4 at the bottom. With that mock up, it seems horrible cramped, especially if we have to add DLC to the mix. It's potentially even worse in a Melee CSS environment, where inserting, say Dark Pit in the 2nd row could break up the Pokemon row into the 2nd and 3rd rows. It makes me think that we'll see something more uneven like Melee in one row, and possibly a 5th row as well somehow.

I can't believe that they would ever debate about keeping one of the Mother boys for no real reason. That would imply that they are deliberately going to cut someone like Lucas/Ness out of the way even though it is unnecessary, which bugs me.

Sakurai had the roster decided on barring Sonic long before we saw the original trailer, which would in theory include Lucas. Likewise, Lucas' game hadn't even come out yet. If Brawl hadn't been delayed, it would have been perfect advertising for Mother 3.... but then the delays happened, and the DS came out.

If you don't count Sheik and ZSS in Brawl, what makes them count now? 47 would be an increase of 8, not 12.

Well, no duh. Brawl came out in 2008, but it got delayed, a lot. Likewise, Mother 3 came out in 2006, and Brawl was originally supposed to come out in 2007.

It's a shame. At the time, Lucas was one of my most wanted characters in Brawl, and I really enjoyed him too, despite the similarities to Ness' moveset. I was hoping he could fight it and stay in, but now I've mentally prepared myself for the worst. Maybe he can return as DLC, sure.

It has never happened in Smash history that a represented franchise when down in reps from the previous game. It just doesn't make sense that he would get cut.

I don't think you can really lower his credibility when he's 8/11, and the one character, Chorus Men, the same one this leak hinges on, just got a massive hint to inclusion at E3.

I doubt that we'll get Ridley and K. Rool for DLC if they aren't included in the main roster.

You're greatly overselling the popularity of K. Rool and Ridley if you think that way more people would pay for them than the characters you list.

Palutena was highly requested, FE is an old and popular series and FE characters are always very popular in Smash, Rhythm Heaven sold very well, everyone has played Wii Fit, Xenoblade was very popular and one of the defining games of the Wii, and the hype for Little Mac was insane.

The sour grapes attitude of Ridley and K. Rool fans is really disrespectful to fans of other characters. Those two aren't automatically the most deserving inclusions, and it's not a travesty if they don't make their way onto the final roster.

- dk and metroid are OLDER, dk is more popular than FE. and while krool hasn't been recent, DK is the most relevant nintendo franchise right now other than pokemon and mario. krool is the best 3rd rep, period, i dont need to get into why
- rhythm heaven apparently did sell great. but there is just something messed up about including a character from this music game that even the fans themselves have no idea who he is because theyre in 1 or 2 minigames. a stage, an AT, a sticker would suffice. putting someone like that, this jabroni, over a third dk or metroid rep is just distasteful and this is where that "sour grapes" stuff comes from.
- im willing to bet at least 80% of the smash demo hasnt played wii fit. wii fit trainer isnt necessary when we have miis. i really dont think the fat moms who bought wii fit are gonna say oh that mannequin is in this game, ill buy it
- xenoblade didnt even sell a million copies so yea. it was a good game but i mean ridley and krool have some of the best games of all time under their belt... not just a good game on the wii

True, true. But it is still outdated info and it doesn't make sense to reveal such outdated info.

I'm willing to admit 47 might be our roster number BUT I'm still leaning more towards 48 with mewtwo returning.

I dont buy "how much the screen can fit" theories... they are never right for figuring out fighting games and since Sal has also leaked DLC the final roster will eventually have to hold more anyway. Basically even if 47 is the final roster number it wasn't because they couldnt shrink the icons down.

The reason for 48 mewtwo returning is the rosalinax leak which, never mentions mewtwo, but does say 48 characters 4 cuts and even mentioned the debate between ness and lucas that gematsu/sal has now also mentioned. it did say the roster number could change however but its the best guess at what the final roster size is imo, much better then how many icons the screen can hold (you can change their size its an arbitrary point).

Mewtwo is the most likely candidate for that final spot for a ton of reasons:
1. he's not a brawl vet but he is the only non-clone cut character in the series so far.
2.highly requested in both the east and west.
3.(i hate this word but im using it) relevant right now because of a new pokemon movie and having two mega evolutions and heavilly promoted in x and y
4.he would keep pokemon at 6 reps, which if lucas is cut is sort of irrelevant but i could see pokemon staying at 6 since game freaks would probably have a lot more say in keeping their series represented in smash rather than mother, which has no huge company backing it and wanting to have a large presence in the game.

it doesnt necessarily HAVE to be mewtwo for that final spot, the debate about lucas PROBABLY being cut was just a probably and not confirmed so if they had enough time he could very well be in OR I still think ridley or even some one random like balloon fighter could still potentially grab that 48th spot but i DO think a spot is there.

its also totally possible that rosalinax's leaker ment 48 SPOTS on the roster 4 cuts and it was relayed wrong to us and the random button was that 48th "spot", but for now i'll hold out hope for mewtwo/lucas/some one else to fill that 48th spot.

About the CSS...there is nothing stopping it from being able to scroll on the 3DS, and just be in one big piece on the Wii U.

the fact that sakurai put in greninja based on concept designs (way before he was even revealed) kills mewtwos chances for me. this huge push that mewtwo got, starting with the debut of mega evoultions up until the orgins special, all came too late probably there was plenty of time to add him, but if he made a cutoff and didnt add anyone after, theres a good chance mewtwo wont be included

i hope im wrong. at nintendo world today when you finish your games they ask you who you want to see. i asked the guy who he got the most, he immediately said mewtwo. if theres DLC, theres no way he wouldnt be included
