That means that, in Doubles, I'll need to use a different character that can't be chaingrabbed by Pikachu.

I had to do some training on that at Donatos yesterday. I also completely know that Pikachu's up smash can be DI'd.

Basic smash interaction always tells you to DI out and to the corners (in Brawl). Even if you get CG'd to whatever %, you always go with survival DI just in case there is a chance.

I think carls is right about the % but at that point he falls into a fsmash so if hes by a ledge hes still dead

Pikas cg works til about 100% verse fox (and sheik). And yes testing training mode will not give you an accurate result because all cgs (bar D3's for dumb reasons) are very reliant on move decay (or stale moves). The rule for fox (and sheik) is that the cg begins at 23ish% with dthrows. However 2 fthrows and a pummel or 2 will put you in that range where pika can begin dthrows. If the pika begins dthrows before then you can buffer a double jump to footstool pika out of his dthrow and escape. The window where pikas cg will no longer work ends at around 55ish%. All of the data I just provided for you is assuming his dthrow is fresh. If it is decayed at all the I believe the window raises on both ends. For instance if his dthrow is stale by 1 then he won't be able to do dthrows til 29% and the top limit will be around 59% (all numbers are made up for this example).

The best strat for you in this MU as far as the cg is concerned is to keep track of his dthrow decay. Doesn't have to be exact but have a general idea. If you are below the window stand near the ledge so that he can't do the preliminary forward throws to get you in dthrow range (it will toss you off the stage) and be wary of a pivot grab resulting in him facing center stage. Most importantly camp here and tack on damage for reasons I will explain later. Once you are in the window run like hell. Do what ever it take to not get your landing trapped (if you can use the ledge or platforms awesome). Hopefully if you have tacked on damage like I said, you will have a lead and the Pikachu will need to approach meaning he can't just time you out on the ground forcing you to come down and get grabbed. Lastly do what ever it take to GET OUT of the dthrow window once you are in it. Damage is a non factor at this point once you take 30% (about) the cg is not a threat anymore. Run away, throw projectiles, if you are forced into a situation where you might get grabbed throw out moves, jabs are your friend, its pretty hard to grab a jab flurry. If they punish your jabs with an fsmash good for you, you didn't get grabbed. If you ever shielded during this time, you are doing it wrong. Eat some tastey Tjolts in the face (watch out tho they can trip) damage doesn't matter the grab is your only concern. Once your at 55% your in the clear and you can play the game again.

That said I make it sound easier than it is, I still play Zelda for Pika for the first 55%.

I kept forgetting that stale moves applies to throws, too, which means that they can't get stale in training.

Thanks for the advice, Judo.

I will agree about Toast being too good. I like that they have TVs in the bathrooms too.
