is it not also dumb to have essientially the same tournament week after week happen? at least in a bracket seeded only be location you have some hope to play someone who isnt one of the best players in the state or in kevins case the world, for instance alex lawing (no realation btw) has played kevin second round at least 3 of 4 tournaments theyve both attended in recent memory

I mean, I personally don't give a **** either way since I'm gdlk, but for the people that aren't benefiting from playing the easy people it seems unfair to them because, let's say you are 8th in the state. If all the PR players show up, you are GUARANTEED to play PP in winner's quarters...no matter what...every time.

Well at MSM we only seeded the top 4 players, left everyone else the same for a mostly random bracket and moved around any obviously screwed up placings, which we did mostly because there were lots of scrubs who we wouldn't be capable of seeding anyway, but some decent players still went unseeded. Idk if other NC tournaments are usually seeded more accurately than that, but it seems like it still allows for some variation from tournament to tournament while still rewarding higher skilled players and making sure they don't meet too early in bracket.

I guess to summarize that idea, we could seed based only on the largest skill gaps at any given tourney and leave other players (even if they have a noticeable but less significant skill gap) at the same level to allow for variation.

The accurace of placements will still exists because the better players will still make it far into the bracket. COnsidering the term "random" it isn't like ALL THE GOOD PLAYERS will be on 1 side, that won't happen.

From what I remember from the tourneys I went to over the years, most tourneys that don't have pools (which themselves are seeded), seed by a cross between PR rankings and the "how good does x, y, and me think this person is compared the fact that this other person's given a 7 but like we know he's better but he hasn't come to anything in 8 months" method

I'm not saying one way is better than the other, I'm just presenting facts. I think that if it is JUST bracket it should be SEMI random, like make sure there isn't one super overly stacked side (AKA number of PR members) but then randomize where they go. Tournaments with pools are obviously seeeded.

And people used to care how they were chosen to be seeded cause they wanted a decent bracket that they thought they deserved, not one that they just randomed into. Could u really imagine billfests with random brackets?

And really by the time we get to arbitrary attempts at seeding, its basically random anyway. Wasn't that the big beef around it? The fact that only pr players were clearly seedable was an argument in itself, which was why stingers little elo thing was so cool.

I don't really care that much, as I wouldn't mind just fighting raleigh ppl or whatever, but I recognize we get about the same tourney every time cause we have the same 20 man core every time.

wayyy too much force considering moses, boney, me, taheem, brian, the nanneys, and maybe a select few others are the only people who are still trying to get better at melee in this state... and sadly, i bet the size of this list probably won't increase in a sustainable fashion.


i don't really mind... as long as i got some scrubs hunting for me and even just one or a few players that i can aim for

I'm still trying to get better. Instead of playing, I theorize about every possible situation and think about the game during most my waking life. Currently working on expanding that to my unconscious life.

edit: it's pretty hard to get him any other time. thursday is brawl day sometimes for him, but tuesdays happen on rare occasion.

PP's ****** me pretty hard (made watching kings of cali that much more enjoyable), but my own mentality has been shifted downward because of my school work. i really wish PP was able to come an earlier semester, but it is what it is. i'm trying to forcibly shift myself out of this rut both schoolwise and smashwise, so we'll see how that goes in the upcoming days and weeks.
