I don't deny Cloud is the most popular Final Fantasy character. What I do deny is the notion of him representing Final Fantasy in its entirety. I don't care how popular he is, his main game reign lasted as long as Squall's or Zidane's. Which was one. If people changed their minds about Cloud and considered Aeris to be their favorite character would Aeris represent FF in its entirety and be considered the face of the franchise?
Do you see how flawed this popularity logic is when determining which character the franchise is built on? The only solid evidence any supporter has when claiming a character is the face of a franchise is # of main titles that character was a part of.
Square knows that if any character would "fully represent" the series, it'd be Cloud. Seriously. If you argue Mog would, then Chocobo would have a chance. Or Cactuar. Or any other race that is familiar with the series.
Great then you will stop pretending that the spin-offs are a huge factor in Cloud's favor? Its not like FFVII fans didn't enjoy the other characters and the story behind the game right? Otherwise we would have never gotten these spin-offs dedicated to those characters and their stories.
Nope. Not only was the main game focused on him, he has a full motion picture based on him. Not only that, but he's still focused on somewhat in Crisis Core. We get to see his interactions with Zack.
I must say, FFVII fanboys are some of the weirdest, though. Dirge of Cerebrus was horrible to me, be a lot of people loved it.
Its a little too late for a Final Fantasy VI sequel and it also doesn't help when you're right behind the game thats supposed to pave the way for future Sony exclusive FF titles.
FFVI spinoffs would be pointless. What could there be to go off on? Everyone that mattered either died or accomplished their goal during the main game and unfortunately, FFVI never had a backstory as strong as FFVII's. It's plot was fairly cookie cutter with no hidden subfactions with volumes of history on those alone. Maybe a prequel is possible, but even that would be scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Too late? Maybe you don't know that they are going to have a sequel to Final fantasy 4! That's right. A game that's older than Final Fantasy 6. So is it too little too late?
By the way, it's never too little too late. It's a video game! You can create a new story out of what was left in the previous one.
