No, you can't like it cause everyone likes it and thinks it's their best and most epic song but it's not so you can't like it cause if you do then you agree with them so don't like it cause if you do then you are just thinking something is cool that everyone else does so don't like it cause if you do then you'll be just trying to be one of the cool kids and all your knowledge about the band will be erased and if anyone brings them up all you will be able to say is OH STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN YEAH YEAH HAHA HA H HAH but yeah I wouldn't so yeah don't be a not cool kid and don't like it so yeah I wouldn't like it if I were you cause then you'll just be normal and radio listening is overrated and the song is overplayed just like the cool kids.

It's a really good song though. I like it.

It's fine to like Stairway but it's not necessarily "cool" anymore... I know a lot of Zeppelin fans are tired of it because they've heard it thousands of times and they have plenty of other good songs to listen to.

On an unrelated note, Jay-Z just had a concert on campus. It was fun because everyone was hype but him and Lil Wayne are WAYYYY overrated. Mainstream hip-hop sucks right now imo

i've never understood how "mainstream" as a whole can suck

is that some sort of specific style? or like does that mean that all 100 or whatever "known" artists coincidentally are sucking ***?

"Mainstream" is defined as the collective group of artists OR style that is currently popular (in terms of album sales and media attention) in a given genre. Sometimes the word refers to style, but in this case I'm talking about the mainstream artists themselves. For hip-hop right now it's artists like Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Nas, Kanye West, T.I., 50 Cent, Eminem, Drake, Lupe Fiasco, Ludacris, Plies, etc. Some are decent but the overall quality of this mainstream group is terrible compared to hip-hop of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s

**** Adam. This is exactly what I would've wanted to say, but it would've taken A LOT more words for me to say it. I need to get better at that, I'm not too good with specific terms to simplify things sometimes.

And yeah, complaining about "mainstream" is dumb. People complain how some of it has no thought put into it, and it's all engineered to appeal to what we like to hear. But who really cares. Most of the foods we buy today are engineered or created to satisfy as fully as possible what we like to taste, but that doesn't keep most of us from eating it. And it also doesn't mean we can't enjoy that fresh apple that had so much hard work and time put into it's growth and life, or the rare song with depth and insightful lyrics with an intoxicating sound all made possible by the talented artist.

If it tastes good, it tastes good. If it sounds good, it sounds good.
But we all still have different "tastes" in music. Hmm, wonder where that term came from...

every word should mean something / add to what you are saying (intensity or description)

it's ez with practice. i have some OCD in me so growing up i used to pick apart every sentence i read in magazines and books to see if they could've said what they said in a more effective and succinct way. i like language

good timez

I hear you.
Sometimes I'm jealous of other languages because they all have so many specific and exact words for things, and it's so fun to use those words properly (in English though, haha).
btw, what's your avatar?

Let me guess, you're P? I'm not complaining about anything, I'm just saying I think mainstream hip-hop sucks right now and was a lot better in the past decades (the times of Wu-Tang, Tupac, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy). Just giving my personal taste. Your post is just more proof that you're ok with being an old, trolling loser that still hasn't grown up yet and will probably end up living a less than mediocre life due to your belligerent attitude.

deleted the angst. lol I'm embarrassed. I just read this novel about this guy that lives in an apartment filled with people blasting their music, and they keep upgrading their sound systems so they can hear their own music until the apartment building just vibrates like crazy with the sound waves. The main character narrating the story can never get any peace and quiet and rants something similar to what I deleted.

You're a ****tard Signia. You think too highly of yourself and your music taste. I know way more about music/music theory than anyone in this ****ing thread and I'll tell you, you're an assclown. Stop posting.

Look you didn't even talk about anything to me and I'm upset and angry and will probably smack you in the face with an open palm if I ever see you.

Brian you're starting to post like I used to... it's scary.

I've been listening to 90% classical music over the past month, and during the past week I've finally come up for air a bit until I dive back in to unprecedented depths (sup Chopin, Brahms, Liszt and Tchaikovsky). I'm still taking more recommendations for the record.... <cut>

During to summer I would stay up late to watch Classic Arts Showcase http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_Arts_Showcase
I started to appreciate chamber music, choral music, opera, orchestral/solo instrumental

which led to more orchestral video game music then to soundtracks like lord of the rings/starwars to power metal/melodic death metal and somehow now I'm into British pop/rock weird.

some of my fav. tracks

Wintersun - Death and the Healing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WE_dIgQ4qlo

Vinnie Moore - As Time Slips By http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bu8U7DjVuio

Jeff Loomis - Jato Unit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6Y7iLDj9Cg
