wut
besides the awesome grab and smash range that both set up ridiculous combos, or maybe the great aerials that are all disjointed with good range, or maybe the best pressuring projectile in the game allowing for an easy opening to set up said combos??

definitely no tools to be aggressive
definitely none
definitely
I wouldn't necessarily say he has GREAT aerials. They are disjointed, but they lack the priority that most other disjointed moves have (except up-air; <3 up-air).

I agree. Toon Link likes little boys. Seeing as he is one.

if you slow it down frame by frame, when you use an up air you can see the pikmin turns into metaknight.
Toon link is gay

I guess making jokes like isn't allowed on smashboards... guess who got infraction points?!?
Oh well, at this rate I'll be banned in a couple weeks. Mods seem to be coming down hard lately. They closed the Q&A thread on the link forums.
Wonder how the future of smashboards is going to look.

On topic: there isn't really a best olimar play style, playing defensive or aggressive depends on the matchup. I tend to be a bit more aggressive.

Ooo! Was it Meno? He got some! :bee:

And the Link boards are getting closed anyway, that place is just a board of not greatness.

It seems like all the better Olimar players tend to be a bit more agressive than your typical Olimar. When dealing with an Olimar (from the opponent's perspective), do you think it's harder to deal with an agressive or defensive Olimar? People keep saying there is no best way to play Olimar, but from everything I've seen, our hardest match-ups are those we're usually required to play defensively. I don't know about you all, but when I have a tough match-up, I become agressive to flex my knowledge of the situation and make it harder for my opponent. If I'm playing defensive, I feel like a sitting duck.

I feel more calm when camping it out most of the match, and then it gets a very long match.
But I'm willing to go abit offensive to beat an enemy like Marth

Pssst. The Sonic and Link boards have already moved to All is Brawl. They moved because the mods were being unfair, not that they're doing this to us.

From the opponents perspective, I think its easier to deal with a defensive Olimar. So all you Oli players that are saying,"Lulz Camp" should be careful against someone who has played a good Oli before. :) Aggressive Oli FTW!

Now that we have come to grips with the fact that an aggressive Olimar is 'Most effective', lets talk about his off-stage recovery. We all know his recovery depends heavily on the amount of pikmin he has. Therefore in theory, if your playing against an airel monster, you want to have a lot of pikmin, right?

Woot, we've finally established something without killing each other and millions of Pikmin in the process. Give yourselves a high-five Olimar boards!!! What I think we need to do next is gather the unobvious information, so we can make ourselves more agressive and a little wiser in the process. You guys know how some colors can stop attacks that no other colors can? I think we need to compile that information so that we're all aware of it. Should we continue discussing on this thread or start a new one all together.

to win the war you need a good defense and offense one, to attack the country you aim to destroy, and defense to protect you fatherland from the enemy's allies, you need to be good with defense and offense. The most effective oli is one that has shown true skill in defense and offense. Be ready to become switch strategies constantly when facing any good brawler. Then again it could varies from player to player on which way they do better in

edit: my defense is very nice, my offense needs some twinks though

It's easier to be defensive with Olimar and chances are you'll make a few less mistakes. I'm not sure if any of you can also play Marth, but what you learn early on is that defense is safer and slow to reward, however agressive play is faster, riskier, and much much faster with rewards. I think if we all improved our offensive we could literally change the Olimar match-up guides and people would go "Wtf? Since when did Olimar not just sit there and wait to be approached," almost as fun as when you start attacking with no Pikmin.

Look at my post before about the colors. >_<

mabey one of the reason why are defense isnt so great anymore, is because a good amount of match ups have a matchup against a campy oli :(

well better get to work on my offense and keep my defense up, besides I love longer battles, patience is key, and in offense trying to read your opponent is key (well I think)

*goes read colors post*

What are you guys talking about? Olimar's defense is still top notch. If your opponents are getting past it easily then it's your fault for being so predictable. Of course pivotgrabbing every single time won't work. Mix it up. Use some spaced fsmashes, run canceled shield->grabs (which I should probably make a thread about sometime soon), pivotcanceled fsmashes (which are WAAAAAAY underused), fair->fsmash walls, etc.

With that said, Olimar's best strategy is to space well. As long as you're doing that (while applying pressure with pikmin toss and good stage control), it doesn't matter whether you're playing defensively or offensively. They're both fine.

All in all, i say play Olimar the way you best find him, My Olimar is a little campy, but pretty offensive and balanced with defense, Be offensive and dont be afraid to get up close, but know when to back up a bit and let your pikmin gain up damage with side b, Be strategic with them, if most people brawl like others i have seen, they will attack the pikmin that is smacking them, thats the opening to attack.. Other than that, i say find a way that best fits you.. :chuckle:
