What would Megaman's appearance be if he was announced via trailer? Unless they make his announced trailer like the Mega Man 2 intro.
Probably similar to Pit's or ZSS' entrance (where Pit fires an arrow/Samus fires a super power beam shot, but instead of an arrow/super power beam, he fires Mega Buster blasts/super blast of some sort).

Since Mega Man is such an icon, as well as a 3rd party character, he'd probably be saved for last or second-to-last, like Wario and Snake in the 1st Brawl trailer. ;)

I would actually prefer if Megaman is introduced at the end of a trailer.

He would be beamed down to the battlefield, while the MM2 Boss intro theme plays.

Even though I believe Megaman is the 3rd party with the highest chances, I could see a situation similar to Brawl where the more unexpected/less demanded character gets unveiled in the trailer (which would be a Namco character) and Megaman gets saved until Sakurai might need an ace up his sleeve, like if the game gets a delay, or some other development issues arise. Of course, this won't be exactly the same as Brawl, since Sonic wasn't even part of the game when the initial trailer was revealed, but personally I think the inclusion of Megaman will be one of the earlier things Sakurai sees to this time around.

If only one new 3rd party character is added this time around, I'm guessing they'll be unveiled in the debut trailer (whether Megaman or someone else -- preferably Megaman), but if there are more than one, I wouldn't be surprised if Megaman's unveiling is held off (though ofc I'd love to see him in the debut trailer, which he still has a pretty good chance of appearing in IMO).

Personally I think Megaman and Ridley are definitely in the top 5 for trailer likelihood, along with Palutena, Takamaru, and Little Mac.
The better thing to do is to introduce Pac-Man first in the trailer (To have a reference of Namco-Bandai making the game). Then in the end of the trailer, it introduces Megaman.

Considering the chances of getting more than two new third-parties is very slim (and personally I wouldn't want more than four anyway), Sakurai using one in the trailer and saving one for later is highly likely. Unveiling just one would cause a lot of hype, and it makes sense to spread out the hype by unveiling the other later on down the road, or if Sakurai also has bad news (like a delay) to deliver.

It makes more marketing sense to spread out the third parties. Sakurai isn't going to play all his "heavy-hitters" all at once.

If we get two new 3rd party characters (on top of Snake and Sonic, whether or not they return), we won't get them in the same trailer. Simply put, we're not getting more than 5, and the likely number of 3rd party characters are 2-4 (including Sonic and Snake).

Spreading them out spreads out the hype. The way Sonic was saved (with about 4 months before the release date, with a few revealed newcomers to go) is the way to go. As it stands, I think Pac-Man is best served if saved. He's a much bigger name than Mega Man (or any 3rd party video game character), and he would bring a lot of late eyes to Smash.

All third party characters are, fundamentally, not very likely. As much as we can beg and plead, we must keep in mind that the odds are much more steep and limited compared to the Nintendo characters. I mean, we were lucky to even get Sonic at all.

Megaman just seems likely cause most people want him.
And because various higher ups at Capcom reportedly were expecting a call from Sakurai to ask them to put him in Brawl, but they didn't get that call (which is a sign Capcom wants him in Smash). Plus, Mega Man is a picture perfect fit for smash, and he just fits into smash so easily, and he seems like a character Sakurai would just roll with.

Oh, and Mega Man is doing an epic comic crossover with Sonic, and now people want to see that match up in video game form! ;)

See, what I don't get about that is I remember Mega Man's creator saying he was waiting for Sakurai to call him, but Kojima just straight up asked. Why didn't Capcom/Inafune just do the same? Seriously. I mean I know they don't have the same rapport, but come on, man.

IDK what the general consensus here is for Mega Man's copying, but I just wanna say that giving him a Robot Master's ability when he defeats a Smash Brother is as lazy as giving Kirby a copied move from his games.

Y'know, especially since Kirby can copy his opponents moves in Smash AND uses copied abilities already.

Kirby should be the only one who copies another character. It's his thing.

SSF2 has it right when referencing Megaman's ability to to use his enemies abilities. Use his down special to switch to a different weapon that he actually has in his games.

Here is a Mega Man moveset I made back in 2008/2009.

Mega Man moveset:

Mega Man is perhaps one of the top 5 most requested character for Smash 4, and by far the most requested third-party character, so he basically has the popularity factor going for him. Mega Man, if he got in, has more history with Nintendo by far than both Sonic and Snake combined. Mega Man started on the NES, and while many third-party series that started on the NES jumped ship (Final Fantasy), Mega Man continues to have games released on Nintendo consoles, and is still synonymous with Nintendo to this day. The creator of the series, Keiji Inafun, has also expressed interest about Mega Man appearing in Smash Bros., and said that he was curious as to why Nintendo had not approached him about it. Finally, Mega Man has a lot of moveset potential and would make for a very interesting character addition. It is the combination of these many reasons that make Mega Man by far the most worthy third-party character to enter Smash Bros. 4 as a newcomer.

Mega Man is a very interesting character. He has made many abilities in the many games he has had over the years, however, many of them are projectiles. However, in some Mega Man games, his power-ups were not projectiles, and rather interesting and unique (however, there were some very interesting projectile attacks in the first three Mega Man games in my opinion). The problem with Mega Man is deciding which of these power-ups to include in his moveset. While Mega Man won’t be given a copy ability for his moveset, he will instead have several power-ups from his games in both his A-moves and specials. Also, Mega Man has already been in a fighting game, Marvel vs. Capcom. Mega Man had special in that game. I feel the specials that Mega Man had in Marvel vs. Capcom are perhaps the best for his moveset. However, a lot of Mega Man’s regular moves will have special-like properties.

As for which Mega Man I would place into Smash 4, it would most definitely be “Classic” Mega Man. The “Classic” Mega Man is the most iconic Mega Man of all, and is certainly the most popular. Also, he is the first incarnation of Mega Man and has had the most games, and has made most of his appearances on Nintendo consoles. It is for this reason that “Classic” Mega Man is the best option as to which Mega Man to use. So here is my moveset for Mega Man, and I hope that is shows truly how much of an unique character he would be.

Mega Man regular moves:

A: Mega Man punches with his arm.

AA: Mega Man punches with his arm cannon.

AAA: Mega Man does a kick.

Running-A: Mega Man does his slide from his games.

Side-A: Mega Man does the Slash Claw from Mega Man 7.

Down-A: Mega Man shoots a Search Snake from Mega Man 3. The Search Snake is weak but it can climb up and down walls.

Up-A: Mega Man shoots a D. Wrap from Mega Man 7 (basically a bubble with an explosive in it), the explosive detonates once an opponent gets hit by it obviously.

A-Air: Mega Man does the Top Spin from Mega Man 3.

Forward-Air: Mega Man bashes a big block against his opponent with the power of his Super Arm from the first Mega Man.

Backward-Air: Mega Man shoots a Wind Storm from Mega Man 6.

Down-Air: Mega Man drills downward with the Drill power-up from Mega Man 4.

Up-Air: Mega Man shoots a few needles from his Needle Cannon in Mega Man 3 upward.

Forward-Smash: Mega Man does the S. Wheel from Mega Man 7. The fire ring circles around Mega Man’s body while charging. When he is done charging the fire ring spins on the ground just like in Mega Man 7. How long the fire wheel lasts depends upon how long you charged up the smash attack.

Down-Smash: Mega Man does W. Coil from Mega Man 7 (Mega Man 7 sure did have a lot of good power-ups). Whenever Mega Man is done charging, he will throw a bouncing spring from out of each of his arms, on each side of him just like in Mega Man 7. The number of times the springs bounce on the arena is dependent on how long you charged up this attack.

Up-Smash: Mega Man does the Gravity Hold from Mega Man 5. Upon doing this, opponent close to Mega Man will be knocked upward, and then fall back down as though they tripped. The size gravity force field for this attack is dependent on how long you charged up this attack.

For Mega Man’s Grabs he uses the Thunder Claw from Mega Man 8. In this sense Mega Man is similar to Samus. However, Mega Man’s actual throws are different

Grab-A: Mega Man punches his grabbed opponent.

Forward-Grab: Mega Man slashes them forward with the Flame Sword from Mega Man 8.

Backward-Grab: Mega Man will throw his opponent backward then quickly toss some Quick Boomerangs from Mega Man 2 at his opponent.

Down-Grab: Mega Man slams his opponent to the ground and then slides into them with the C. Kick from Mega Man 5.

Up-Grab: Mega Man will toss his opponent upward then zap them with the Electric Beam from the first Mega Man.

Mega Man special moves:

Regular-B: Mega Buster: What would be a Mega Man moveset without his famed Mega Buster attack? Well, this attack works very similar to how it works in the actual Mega Man games. You hold B to charge the Mega Buster. However, you can charge while moving. Also, the Mega Buster charges up relatively fast just like in the games, however, it is not that strong (only 15% damage fully charged). Also, the Mega Buster shot will be fired whenever you let go of the B-button, which is also similar to how the Mega Buster worked in the games.

Side-B: Mega Ball: Mega Man takes out a Mega Ball from Mega Man 8. This special move is very similar to the soccer ball in Brawl. If Mega Man does an attack on the Mega Ball, it will be launched in a certain direction depending upon the attack. If the ball hits an opponent, the ball will inflict about 15% damage on them. However, the ball disappears after it hits the opponent.

Down-B: Leaf Shield: Mega Man performs the Leaf Shield from Mega Man 2. The Leaf Shield damages nearby opponents when they come into contact with it, and will also protect Mega Man from projectile attacks. However, the Leaf Shield will disappear if Mega Man contacts an opponent while it is activated, or if a projectile hits it. Mega Man can also launch the Leaf Shield at his opponents by jumping (the Leaf Shield would automatically be launched if Mega Man was in midair in Mega Man 2), or by pressing down-b again.

Up-B: Tornado Hold: Mega Man has many viable options for a recovery move, however, the Tornado Hold from Mega Man 8 stuck me as a bit different from other options. If performed in mid-air Mega Man will shoot the gyro below him that performs a tornado gust that lifts Mega Man upward. When performed on the ground, Mega Man simply shoots out of the gyro for the Tornado Hold and then the tornado is unleashed which simply launches your opponents upward but does no damages, so it is more of an inconvenience for them. This is an excellent recovery move and has very high vertical recovery and lasts quite a bit.

Final Smash: Astro Crush: Mega Man performs the Astro Crush from Mega Man 8 as his Final Smash. While this attack only showers meteors for a few seconds, Mega Man can perform it four times (however, after a minute he can no longer perform it). Overall, this is not a powerful Final Smash, and is mostly situational.

Mega Man’s taunts are as follows:
1. Mega Man gives a thumbs-up and smiles.
2. Mega Man jumps up and raises one of his arms in triumph.
3. Mega Man sits down and scratches his head with a confused expression on his face.

Mega Man’s victory animations are as follows:
1. Mega Man will be jumping up and down with excitement that he won.
2. Mega Man will be riding Rush in his jet form, and then balance himself upside down on one of his hands.
3. Mega Man will be bouncing the Mega Ball around as though it were a soccer ball, and kicks it toward the screen.

Running animation:
Mega Man’s running animation consists of a faster version of his walking animation from Mega Man 8. Mega Man will be doing his walking animation from Mega Man 8, only his arms and legs will be moving much faster since he is running.

Idle animation:
Mega Man does little for his idle animation. Mega Man just shakes his arms and blinks, just like in the games. He also sometimes looks around like he does in Mega Man 7.

Costumes:
1. Mega Man’s blue parts become green, and his light-blue parts become white.
2. Mega Man’s blue parts become orange, and his light-blue parts become yellow.
3. Mega Man’s blue parts become purple, and his light-blue parts become light-green.
4. Mega Man’s blue parts become red, and his light-blue parts become grey.
5. Mega Man’s blue parts become grey, and his light-blue parts become blue.

Kirby Hat:
When Kirby’s absorbs Mega Man, he will gain Mega Man’s helmet and have the Mega Man’s arm cannon on one of his arms. Obviously, the special move he will gain will be Mega Buster which will work the same as it does with Mega Man.

Mega Man-Snake Codec Conversation:
Snake: Otacon, who is that boy in the armor?
Otacon: That’s no boy. He’s a super fighting robot… his name is Mega Man. He was created by Dr. Thomas Light. Ironically enough, he was not created with the intention of fighting, and was actually pressed into a combative role when Dr. Light’s assistant Dr. Albert Wily started using his advanced robotics knowledge for attempts at world domination.
Snake: Mega Man huh… more like Mega Boy if you ask me.
Otacon: Mega Man has gone through many trials and adventures, more than you have. He has gained many bizarre abilities and attacks through these quests. There is no way I can describe them all to you in such a short amount of time.
Snake: Just name the ones I should watch out for in particular….
Otacon: Well…. His Mega Buster is quite potent and charges up fast. His Leaf Shield can block your grenades and missiles. Mega Man will also use some sort of ball contraption which he will kick into his opponents. Mega Man can also create gusts through gyro, that will blow you upward, and possibly disorientate you. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg Snake. He uses many other attacks, though these are ones we have seen him use the most.
Snake: Hmm, does not seem that bad…
Otacon: Snake, Mega Man is probably one of the most tactful opponents you will face in Smash Bros., he is able to observe his opponent’s weaknesses fairly quickly and use a weapon or tactic that would counter greatly against them.
Snake: Hmm, lucky for me I have you to counter this guy.
Otacon: About time you complemented me.
Snake: Heh, no problem, well thanks again for the heads-up. Snake out.
End of codec.

End of Mega Man moveset.

Dude, all the detail in that moveset is fantastic, I'm legitimately hoping they use all of that in-game.

The specials are almost identical to the one my friend and I tried to come up with, the only difference is that our Side-B would be similar to Go Missile! in UMvC3 where Rush would run across a given direction and deal damage. (Kind of like Marill) We also decided that his B down should be exactly like how you described except we haven't narrowed down which powers he'll get.

You guys aren't too fond of copying moves I see. Such a shame...

Kirby should be the only one who copies another character. It's his thing.
It's also Mega Man's thing. If we're limiting a character's attributes cuz someone already has it then multi-jumping, ground pounds, reflectors and DownB items should be out of the question for potential newcomers since Kirby, Yoshi, Fox and Link had them first. That line of thinking has been completely ignored considering the whole roster of this series characters, otherwise MK/DeDeDe/Pit, Bowser, Falco/Wolf/Zelda/Pit as well as Diddy/Peach/R.O.B./Snake would be very different.

One thing Mega Man is known for is copying opponent's powers, so what's wrong with him having the Robot Masters' moves as part of his moveset as well as being able to copy a foe after KOing them, when Kirby has a handful of copied moves and the luxury of stealing his enemy's abilities during the match? Are people assuming it'll work the same way as Kirby's? For one, Mega Man doesn't always use the stolen move exactly like the original user did, and there's hardly a reason why he'd only be limited to taking someone's NeutralB. He could take Samus's missiles since they'd have similar Neutral Specials. There's so many ways to handle the copying mechanic for SSB that you'd need a lot more ability robbing characters to showcase them all.

And since some people like to point out that Mega Man can only take a robot's powers, its still very possible (and easy) to move past that speed bump. Simply give him technology that emulates the stolen move as best as it can. I can make a list of potential improvisions:

[COLLAPSE="Mega Man Copy Ideas"]Mario: Give him a water cannon based off of FLUDD, or one that shoots fire balls.
Luigi: Give him a projectile that mimics the Green Missile (SideB), or green fire balls.
Peach: A spore gun that fires the same way as the spores that Toad emits when hit.
Bowser: A flamethrower
Yoshi: An egg gun (mimics the UpB), or a sucker punch that works like Yoshi's tongue on SSE enemies.

DK: A jackhammer-type weapon that's used to punch the ground, or a pitfall like device that traps people in the dirt. A strong mechanical punch isn't a bad option either.
Diddy: Have him shoot a puddle of banana oil, a peanut gun, or a chargeable uppercut that emulates the UpB. Call it the Thrustercut, Thruster Uppercut, or the Rocket Uppercut.

Wario: A bear trap that can be placed anywhere, a mine that hides in the ground and can be placed anywhere that, when stepped on or activated, unleashes a Corkscrew-like drill that shoots upwards, or...a gas bomb. :urg:

Fox: The Fox Illusion. He either rushes forward or fires a hollow clone of himself that dashes forward.
Falco: The Reflector. Works like a short-ranged boomerang.
Wolf: The gun.

Link/Toon Link: Arrows, bombs or boomerangs.
Zelda: a reflector shield or a gun that mirrors her Side B's function.
Shiek: Needles or that chain she pulls out.
Ganondorf: See Captain Falcon, can only emulate Neutral or DownB

Kirby: A vacuum cannon, a hammer, even a blade that creates a slash wave.
Metaknight: A drill that when fired works like his SideB, or a trap that becomes a tornado when triggered. Cloaked invisibility isn't off the table.
DeDeDe: Give him the mechanized hammer and have it work exactly the same way. Or a powerful vacuum.

Marth: A blade that works exactly like Marth's NeutralB, or a slash combo.
Ike: A ground based fire blast that works like Ike's NeutralB

Pikachu: The neutral special, a projectile similar to the one listed for Luigi, or one in which he points his cannon skyward and shoots lightning directly overheard. Basically Thunder in reverse
Jigglypuff: A tranquilizer gun.
Lucario: A cannon that behaves like that Force Palm move, except no grabbing if the foe is too close.
Squirtle/Ivysaur/Charizard: A watergun or watery uppercut/ razor leaf, bullet seed or a whip/ flamethrower, fiery drill uppercut, or a close-range buckshot.

Samus: Missiles/Super Missiles or Morphball Bombs. If they're really uncreative, then take the Neutral Special.
ZS Samus: Any special except the DownB

Ness: Any special is acceptable.
Lucas: Any special is acceptable.

Pit: The arrows, SideB or Mirror are all good candidates for emulation.
ROB: The laser, Gyro and even the jets are all fine. He is a robot after all, which means everything he does is free range for Mega Man.
Olimar: Fires devices that latch onto foes to do damage, or a chain-linked device that's used the way Olimar uses his UpB when he's not airborne.
Game and Watch: give him a battery on his arm cannon that's only powered by energy projectiles, when powered up it releases a blast of its own.
Captain Falcon: A very short ranged fire blast (Falcon Punch in projectile form: Falcon Blast), A fiery rush, or a projectile Falcon Kick: Falcon Shot.

Snake: ALL of his special moves have the potential to be copied. The Cipher, missiles, grenades and remotely detonated bombs would all be possible. Or he can take Snake's smash attacks.
Sonic: Mega Man shoots a bladed blue disk which has almost no air speed that falls to the ground. When it touches the floor it rips through the ground moving horizontally (like Yoshi's SSBB Side B). The more its charged the further it goes. Either that, OR Mega Man's arm cannon reveals a spring; its attached to his arm and Mega Man holds it out like a shield. It acts like a bumper; anyone who runs into it is pushed back.[/COLLAPSE]
It takes some creative thinking, but its still possible to have Mega Man copy abilities, even if he's stealing from non-robotic foes.

Remember, I'm NOT saying that Mega Man should/could or would take more than one of any given character's specials. I'm only pointing out that he doesn't have to be limited to stealing every character's Neutral B and listing his vast options. I also am not implying there'd be a system in the game in which he steals Sonic's Neutral B in one instance then steals his UpB in another. If he takes someone's NeutralB, that's all that he can ever take from that character, because that's what was chosen by the developers for him to take from that specific fighter; the same goes for each opponent he copies.

Also, only Mega Man's Neutral Special will be replaced by the stolen move. Just because he copies someone's DownB, that doesn't mean his original DownB has been replaced.

Hopefully this disclaimer cuts down on confusion.

Oh, and only one copied ability at a time. He's gotta lose it to use another.

I'm at a 50/50 with Megaman in smash 4. If he makes it in great, if not then it's not a lost for me(except for Capcom and their fans). Hopefully Inafune actually approaches Sakurai with wanting Megaman in smash 4 because otherwise we won't be seeing him. Unless he pulls a Sonic and becomes a last minute addition. He just doesn't seem that likely to me because Capcom's just been more focused on their money printing IP's instead of the blue bomber. And if he doesn't show up in smash 4 then it kind of shows how much Capcom cares for him. Plus it's a slap in the face for the Megaman supporters.

Your a little behind the times.
Yeah I am.:urg:

Who currently makes the megaman games now? I think the last Megaman game I've played was 8, or was it the Battle Network one for gamecube? Either way they both were fun. I should try playing/downloading the older ones since I recently just got a DSTWO for my 3ds.
