It’s scary right now, anything can literally happen. We are currently in a ticking bomb of any surprise of some sort, made by Sakurai/Nintendo. Here’s to tomorrow for a reveal of Ashley in Ultimate. (P.S. Thinking more about it now, it’s also kinda strange that they have only revealed one stage from the Warioware series, and not the gamer stage... You don’t think they could be saving either Gamer or an entirely new stage for a reveal of a character from the Warioware series? *cough* *cough* Ashley)

I'm guessing Gamer is gonna be shown off this week and it's gonna talk about how the mode its based on returns in Warioware Gold.

Since. like you said, the end of our speculation is potentially upon us, it would be a good time to draw up that graph of Ashley's thread growth. Imma do that today, so look forward to that.

We'll all know by tonight if the dream is alive or dead.

If Ashley is revealed as an assist trophy, then the hope and this thread dies. If there's no Ashley reveal one way or the other, then the hope for a playable Ashley lives on.

Got my fingers crossed for an Ashley reveal, but I'm also not expecting it either.

Oh shoot I forgot Warioware Gold released tomorrow. I was more focused on Ashley lol. Would I be ruining the experience of playing twisted and touched if I bought it?

It would be really sucky if the first non-music new info that the blog shares is the disconfirmation of a prominently speculated character. I'm sure that won't happen.

No idea if anyone has mentioned this today, but recently Nintendo referred to Ashley as a Key-character to WarioWare in their Rewards updates.

Keep the fun going all summer long with action-packed My Nintendo rewards! – To help celebrate the launch of the WarioWare Gold game, we’re offering Wario-themed rewards, like a Nintendo 3DS Home menu theme featuring Ashley, one of the key characters from WarioWare Gold, and wallpaper. Redeem your points to get them!
They called Ashley a Key-character, she is raising not only in real life but within WarioWare as well.

I noticed that earlier. It's obvious that Nintendo is promoting her and thinks that she's an important enough character to put her in that kind of advertising. Surely Sakurai knows this as well.

Hey, I want to pop in and say that I support Ashley too! Wanted to post here sooner, but this thread has been so popular with speculation and discussion that I didn’t want to interrupt all the excitement :p But with the possibility of her getting revealed soon, I figure I should probably join now in case I end up missing my chance! I'm serious when I say I've wanted to post here for a while - I posted about Ashley in this thread back in April!

Ashley's my favorite Wario character, and she's got a ton of possibilities for Smash! I've seen a bunch of concepts for her using Red and magic, but I also thought a moveset where she primarily uses summoning to use some of the series' microgames somehow could be fun, like summoning the cars from the Crazy Cars game. Maybe she could even have a move where she randomly summons another member of the WarioWare cast? Like if 9-Volt gets summoned, then it's an electrical attack that stuns the opponent, or if it's Jimmy, then he does some kick dance move that just does damage and knockback like a regular attack? Whatever the case, there are definitely options!

Lastly, here's a piece of fanart I haven't seen posted here yet! Was made during the days of Brawl, and these were the characters the artist wanted to see in the game. Ashley is one of them, so I figured people here would like to see it!

Glad to finally be joining you all. Here's hoping she makes the cut! :)

Can you make a screenshot of this? Considering the offer seems to be America only...

There's really nothing holding Ashley back. Nintendo knows she's popular, the fans want her, they've been promoting her, and she has great moveset potential. There's no reason why she shouldn't be a playable character, so it all depends on what Sakurai wants to do.

The news post itself is here, but if you can't view it, here's a screenshot!
Thanks! I only get an error page with the link, as the offer is not on the french version (and it automatically give me the French version).
Of course I trusted you guys about this, but this is really interesting to see her considered as such. And thanks to the screen, I'll be able to talk about it with others who can't see it.

Thanks again!

Speaking of, I did some digging and found that the Warioware merch that we mistook as keychains are actually phone straps. I couldn't find anything by looking up "warioware keychains", so I reverse image search the picture we put up and it led me to some guy's amino page where the picture came from.

He didn't say what they were, so I took a chance and looked up the phrase again on ebay to see if there were any listings, and lo and behold I found a treasure trove of My Nintendo rewards with the Warioware set included with them. I'm so lucky he was selling actual keychains along with these, other wise I would have never found it, because he listed them as "-7 WarioWare cell phone charms"

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Large-collection-of-Club-Nintendo-and-unique-Nintendo-items/173440799850?hash=item2861e0946a:g:cv8AAOSwI2xbVoEQ&_sacat=0&_nkw=warioware+keychain&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313

For a measly 125$ plus tax and shipping, you can have the Touched phone straps and a whole bunch of other junk. And if you do, hook me up with that extra Ashley strap he has.

Knowing what they are now, it was easy to find the other picture floating around of these phone straps.

PA.49644.002.jpg

They're from this play-asia page, and before you get your hopes up, they're sold out.

https://www.play-asia.com/touch-made-in-wario-phone-strap-gashapon/13/7012b0

What initially got me curious about this was Papa Geno's claim that he saw some Ashley merch like keychains and plushes while in Japan. Seeing that there isn't anything on play-asia besides games and these phone straps make me suspect that. Not to say it's not true. The supposed Ashley rags weren't on there either, but just be aware of there being no concrete evidence currently.

Good find. I have these phone straps, along with the Ashley cloth. Fun Fact; Ashley has a hidden bow at the back of her head in these phone straps

View attachment 155331

Here's a picture I took of the back
Woah, I don't know if I like the bow.

Where did you get if from? Was it a My Nintendo Reward?

Is this the Ashley cloth?

https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b323802274

I'll dig around more for more Ashley stuff. A few years back I used to be really into collecting Japanese memorabilia (Mario stuff, specifically) and so I know my way around the Japanese auctions quite a bit.
They're real? Oh my goodness, The rag looks a lot better then I thought it would. Have you managed to find any other physical Ashley merch on there?

My younger sister bought them for me during my 17th Birthday. I don't exactly know where she got them from, but I recall seeing an ad for it on eBay, so she probably bought them there before they were all sold out. The My Nintendo Reward one is the Ashley cloth, but I just bought it off eBay.

Here are all the Ashley merch

- Ashley Phone Strap
- Ashley Cleaning cloth
- Ashley Eshop card.
- Ashley cut outs (Displays for Gold)

Yeah, really Nintendo has nothing to lose with including her, it's literally up to Sakurai at this point.

Unfortunately, after quite a bit of digging that was the best I could find.

It's somewhat difficult to search for Ashley merch because her name is spelled in Katakana which is often used for foreign names. By the same token, there's a prominent market for "American" stuff in Japan (though it is rather niche). It's still enough to overshadow her. It could also be exasperated by the lack of Ashley merch in general.

Searches in Haragana turned up nothing.

(Keep in mind I know jack-all about Japanese. I only know enough to scratch the surface and poke around a bit.)

For whatever reason Nintendo has decided to promote Ashley, a side character from a side series.
If they really wanna promote her even more, they'll put her in the biggest video game crossover in history.
Ashley's been on a steady increase in popularity since 2014, let's hope it continues.

Now I want Ashley merch bad lol. It's a crime she doesn't have a plush yet. Hopefully an appearance in Smash as a playable fighter can make it happen!

My thinking exactly. Nintendo has spent the past few years steadily increasing her presence by promoting her. Seems odd for a spin-off character in a spin-off franchise of another spin-off franchise.

There has to be a reason for it, right? Nintendo typically doesn't do things without reason these days.

Wouldn't be the first time a character got merch after being in Smash. Both Pits and Lucina got Figmas around then.

Of course, Ashley being in Smash guarantees an amiibo!

I promised my poor wallet I wouldn't buy too many new Amiibo.
But I am absolutely. ABSOLUTELY. Buying an Ashley Amiibo.

I believe Miiverse played a big part in Nintendo's sudden love of Ashley. When Game & Wario launched, the Japanese miiverse community was, like, 80% Ashley fan-arts for months. It probably made them realize people were attached to the character and not just her theme song.

They acknowledge her popularity some time before the big merchandising push started: A few months after the game launched, Nintendo posted a series of promotional videos called "Miiverse Sketch Masterpiece Collection" where the Warioware cast would comment and occassionally snark on crappy drawings made in the Miiverse Sketch mode. The theme of one of the video was Ashley herself (beside that one and the final one about Wario, the other videos were generic things like zebras or grimaces), and in his post promoting that video on Miiverse, Goro Abe (the director of the series) said something among the lines "We have a lot of Ashley drawings in this community, but this video is about ones made in less than one minute".

I also have my ~theory~ about a detail of the development of Game & Wario but it's a bit tortured.

(Incidentally, you can add me to the supporter list. Been irredemable Ashley trash since I played WarioWare Touched as a 12-years old boy ^^)

Oh my god it's you! You've been like at the forefront of a lot of Ashley related stuff (2 things of the top of my head). There was the English Translations of the Smooth Moves website that revealed Ashley was an orphan, and there was also that now debunked "Ashley is a rising star" comment, which I have to give you credit that without you saying in that thread that you didn't believe it to be true, we would have never brought this to the attention of Source Gaming.

How fitting you finally appear and gives us this cool obscure Ashley trivia. So thank you for that!

If we get nothing tomorrow then the Ashley train will keep on going.
Only deconfirmation can kill this hype, and even then it'll continue on into Smash 6.
Good thing she won't be getting deconfirmed ;).

I want to believe.

yes that is my gimmick
Apparently they're 3DS videos. Like 3DS games. Like Warioware Gold.
Like Ashley.
I'd expect a 3DS Direct to actually not have any Smash info, because you know, Smash Ultimate isn't on the 3DS.

Who knows, though.
