California Crew Championships

Ok, due to smashers being smashers, Ive decided to put this off until June until I can manage to a get a least a respectable turnout. The pot for this tourny will be 2000$, m2k will be flown over, and hopefully I can manage to do other things where hype is created and you ppl actually put ur money where ur mouth is.

The last crew battle tournament that was planned and had a good turnout i remember hasnt happened for a long time, and I am hoping to make another one with hopefully gosuengineers help, and a couple other ppl.
This tournaments main event will be crews, but THEIR WILL BE A SINGLES/DOUBLES EVENT! Crews will be double elimination, and the crews will consist of 5 players/crew.
After much discussion, I have also decided to limit the players within a crew to a region. However I am flexible (to an extent) about what region a player belongs to. For example x player lives in y area, but x player goes to a school in z area; that player may play for either the y or z area crew. Any region may have multiple crews.

As far as the rule structure goes. It will be pretty standard stuff. Each crew will pick their first player blindly and play and a random neutral (no stage striking), and then counterpick from their. Counterpicking levels will be allowed, and a crew may have multiple characters (only concerns brawl rlly).

Rule Set
Crews consist of 5 players
Players from a crew must be from the same region. Region is defined as follows:
by residence (permanent address) in a given area code
Current student status at a University
A region may register more than one crew
All crew matches are 20 stock
Double Elimination (pools depending on turn out, time constraints)
Stages chosen by random select (Pound 4 neutrals). First match is always random; each team may strike one stage from the random list (prior to starting the crew battle) for the duration of the battle. Note: that level can still be counterpicked
Losing crew may counter pick after losing a game. Counter picking as follows:
1. Losing crew picks stage
2. Winning crew picks character
3. Losing crew picks character
Crews must be submitted via pm prior to the start of the tournament. Failure to do so will result in a late fee; exceptions are granted at the T.O.'s discretion
Only allot 2 minutes to choose next crew man to go. 1 minute after time opposing crew may ask TO to force crew to choose, another 1 minute into deliberations and TO may penalize offending crew a stock and more stock for any more subsequent delays
crews must maintain a score sheet and are required to turn when reporting results. These sheets will be provided along with pens/pencils
Payment for entire crew must be made all at once.
Reasoning – helps maintain pot and eliminate uncertainty in cash prize.

Yeah Unknown didn't really clarify that since he hasn't secured a venue yet.
Most likely it will be in the 818/Woodland Hills area Probably in April or May

of course if there aren't enough people and absolutely zero interest, it won't happen at all

edit...oops unknown beat me too it

Wait, wobbling isn't banned?

So the winning crew is going to be 5 ice climbers then. Good to know.

Ban wobbling and use Pound 4 ruleset please. The more you look at it, the more you realize how much of a joke the previous ruleset was.

Try not to get into a debate whether a tactic or particular rule is fair. Just let us know what you would prefer. If enough people are for or against something we'll begin deliberation on a change.

So we're considering:
-changing to P4 rules
-how to define a region: we're probably just gonna go with area code and work it out from there

I may go to this, and I'm in favor of Pound 4 rules.

Just to clarify, wobbling is the IC's infinite chain grab exploit? I would assume this puts the match drastically in favor of IC's. I really don't see how wobbling is a legitimate strategy, it's just a free kill with no strategy involved whatsoever. It's just a matter of when you can land it and whether you can execute it properly, but it's not legitimately earned damage like a real combo or a good read.

1. You have to get a grab
2. assuming 1, you also have to have nana nearby
3. assuming 1 & 2, you have to execute it properly (correct rhythm/ smash release)

no more a free kill anymore than a shinespike is a free kill. it's simply a higher level tactic that is highly situational and has a nice payoff.

besides, kouryou should be the last one to complain, considering his main.

75 dollars a crew so if we get 25 people per crew ill enter :p
Cute. But the limit is 5 per crew. this may go up depending on interest and time constraints. Also the 75$ is tenative, Hopefully we can get it down to 65 or even 50.

I may go to this, and I'm in favor of Pound 4 rules.

Yes again, all we need is a simple for or against wobbling; if enough people complain about it, we'll ban it. This lengthy discussion of the merits and faults belongs elsewhere.

Once I get a hold of unknown, I'll tell him to update the OP

ok, the general census seems to be going for pound4 for rules, but the debate over wobbling seems to still be up in the air, so I'm goin to leave that for now.

I'm pretty sure Rei's post was saying Jkun and Squid are against wobbling, where Rei is not against it (I'm not sure if this means Rei is for wobbling or just indifferent)

I'm against pound 4 rules.
