I'm sure anyone here has already seen the Genesis 2 videos uploaded from AJP Anton, and I think our community could step it up in recording Melee. Even without expensive equipment, there are several little things he does that make viewing a lot better.

Take a look at one of BEAST 2's sets he just uploaded: Zgetto + Faab vs Pepito + IVP

-He often has every major set of the tournament.
-Up to 480p for players that like quality, on top of his already stunning and clear visuals.
-Excellent audio; it's never fuzzy or out of sync.
-He fixes any small errors as best he can like dropped frames, etc. One really cool thing for Genesis 2 sets he did was use the live footage put up by others, to replace any frame errors.
-The videos are extended well passed where the set ends so that you won't know where the match ends based on the length of the video.
-Entire sets are uploaded, rather than separate matches. HBox vs Armada's set is on Youtube at nearly 40 minutes.
-Little to no wasted time in between matches, it's always straight to Melee.
-He often has linked annotations that go to each match if you want to see later ones, instead of having to search for them, which is absolutely amazing in this crew battle.
-One really cool thing he did with this set and other Teams sets at BEAST 2 was having live footage between the matches of the players. So not only do you get to see Zgetto in Melee, you also get to see him in real life. :awesome:
-For those that are quality fiends, he has a site of TONS of European videos all in the highest quality possible that you can get via download.

Now obviously, not everyone has the money/equipment/experience to record flawless videos and make sure to cover every single set, and it's a lot of work to do what he has with his site, but a lot of these things in the list can be done by anyone with just a little extra time put into editing the videos, and when the videos have hundreds and thousands of views, it makes a big difference.

By doing this, it gives the community higher quality videos, attracts newer players a lot more, and makes the Melee community a lot more professional looking. I think it would be incredibly beneficial for the community if video uploaders try do do some of these things for matches they upload. :D

My vid quality is fine, but one thing I'd like to try is livestreams, which are also a key piece of the hype puzzle. Problem is there are no guides for how to livestream anywhere on this site. I swear, I've looked everywhere. Can anyone help out?

I went to www.livestream.com DLed the free software and it was really self explanatory.

Its just setting up your capture card like you would normally do but you open this program that streams it instead of recording it.

Thats the one I've used, but I can't imagine the other stream sites being much more different.

get a dazzle capture card, you can get them for $50ish at best buy. u need between 3 and 6 splitters to stream and record at the same time. im a little fuzzy on how to stream and record at the same time, but if i sat down and looked im sure i could figure it out.

Stream+recording from the same setup becomes very difficult, and too much for many laptops. I think the best thing to do is to just have your stream automatically record, then export to youtube.

I can help with any livestream questions.

Quite honestly a stopped watching after RC, which had comparatively terrible quality to the other stuff you recorded for some reason.

Your actually looks better than mine now that I look at the other videos lol

stupid camera

Mine's still not bad though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6lfqL4pfH4 (obviously watch in HD for best effect)

Yeah the way he handles Melee vids is pretty much perfection.

He should link to the equipment he uses. I'm sure it's not too expensive. Not like we're recording in HD or anything here...

I think I remember ajp saying he disapproves of buying expensive stuff like pinnacle iirc. He says his recording hardware is relatively cheap and his vids are high quality due to the software he uses.

But I could be wrong, but iirc his equipment is definitely affordable.

most of his quality comes from using virtualdub to record and using avisynth filters and such.

So? He supports the people who are good, but don't get as much support as they should (foreigners, hated players like Hbox, etc). Nothing wrong with that. The more popular players can handle having one less supporter.

My equipment:
- Lifeview FlyTV Express x1 T2A2 (can capture composite and s-video simultaneously)
- Leadtek PxDTV 2300h (can do component up to 480p, though I never get the chance to do other than composite)
Both are PCI-express cards, and I can record 3 TVs with them. IIRC they were about $100 and $50.
They are pretty low quality, especially Lifeview's card (about the same as those cheap dazzles). What makes mine better is that they don't have hardware encoder2, letting me use my own software encoding.

But you can still get pretty good quality even with ****ty recording (although I still think it looks bad...):

This is from a horrible field-blended DivX-recording (not mine).
