amirite?

Brawl doubles advantages:

1) No retardedness that Brawl programmers failed to notice. (ex. Marth grab release on Ness and d3 infinites etc.)

2) Camping is not possible if you don't want to get 2v1 *****. This is because there's multiple characters on the stage and it's easier to punish.

3) Debatably better than Melee doubles in some aspects.

- It's easier to strategize because the game is slowed down. in melee it was more of 2 1 on 1's happening
- There's ways to limit the opponent more... like if dedede is on the other team, you always try to sandwich him because he's a "one-directional" character
- it's easier to save your teammate..
in melee this was non existant... that's why imo GW is one of the best team players cause he has great kill moves and he can just jump out to his team mate and up b to lift him back up, marth can also do this but just more limited

Why Melee singles is better than brawl singles:

.. don't need to explain this one

I seriously completely agree. I'm thinking of holding my monthlies in this way.

Another positive:
Brawl takes longer, so if it's only doubles tournament time will be cut down significantly.

The only thing wrong with your proposal is that it alienates those that do like Brawl singles, of which you cannot deny there isn't a significant amount of.

- That being said, I don't object to the idea, and would go to such a tournament.
- And of course, I'm sure that this is the obvious issue.

Anyway, SBR member 'CAOTIC' has done a lot of toying with this kind of idea, doing different events at monthlies on a rotational basis. We're now heading towards a national tournament called 'Don't Come' which won't contain a singles tournament at all! Just Doubles and Crews for both Melee and Brawl.

You are correct, some people do enjoy brawl singles over melee. But no one can really deny that melee is a better game from a competitive stand point, so instead of completely ditching Brawl we keep the brawl fanboys happy and use it for doubles.

I'm thinking of it as a way of bringing the Smash community together once again, instead of having a split bridge in between the brawl and melee discussion boards.

I whole heartedly agree.

Entirely why I started this thread:
http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=187084

(Though, I feel like a douchebag everytime I quote it)

But basically, it is my firm belief that rather than degressing to limiting tournament options, we should expand, and include full sized events for both Melee and Brawl like FAST did.

What makes this notion feasible, is that Brawl brings with it a LARGE number of players, which means more money, and more justification for tournaments like FAST to occur.

Regardless, give that that thread a little read anyhow (Unless you have already )

Kinda hard to set tournies up that way though.

I like melee and brawl single/doubles. Although I dont do the greatest in melee, since im not the best wavedasher. Kinda hard to be really good with samus without it >_>

I know plenty of people like melee still, and brawl of course is the new game. Thats why the tourney im hosting in december is 2 days; melee day one, brawl day two. Both games are great, and the competitive scene has room for both in my opinion.

i disagree with this part. Every part of this part actually.

-in doubles (melee or brawl), it can always either be two 1vs1 or teamwork...I definitely dont think melee was more one of those ways than brawl...that really has nothing to do with brawl vs melee and everything to do with how that team plays.
-i dont know what this "its easier to save your teammate" argument is...good players will save thier teammates, regardless of whether its brawl or melee. if its easier in brawl, its because brawl is an "easier" game (I'm not brawl-bashing here...I'm talking about things like automatically grabbing the edge).

You cant say saving a teammate was nonexistant in melee...honestly for you to say this (in my mind) means that you were not a good teammate in melee and have never seen good players in melee doubles play. (Not saying thats true, but thats what that statement says to me). I feel like giving examples would be pointless since there are so many and most of them are obvious.

melee doubles are my favorite event!!

but other than that, i agree with the rest of your post :)

Melee only singles sounds good to me.
Fix'd. No offense intended.

Brawl would be better for doubles imo. Melee doubles are FAR too chaotic and fast. Brawl doubles allow for better strategic placing and teamwork due to its slower gameplay. Melee is fast and chaotic enough, doubles are impossible for anyone but the absolute best players to keep track of during gameplay.

(Besides, Brawl doubles are actually fun to watch.)

I would go to a tournament like this, but there's nothing wrong with Melee doubles. This might be a good way to incorporate both games though, at least Brawl doubles are playable and not completely boring.

Chaotic and fast? To watch, yes. To play, far from it.

The major downside to Brawl Doubles/Melee Singles is that Melee Doubles/Melee Singles is better.

However if you only want to run two events and you want to include both games, this is the way to go.

Pretty much, much more efficient to just have Melee but if people want to keep playing Brawl, I hope it moves to doubles.

Im gonna be honest, Melee Doubles is hella fun but I don't really like putting money into it. Despite the fact that players can become really good in double it really is a chaotic mess since its less "Team Strategy" and more "Two 1v1's on the same stage" Brawl's slower pace actually complements doubles more than anything as it allows players to react better to all things going on at once. Oh and there's no camping.

I do agree that Brawl doubles amazingly does have some advantages over Melee doubles... which is almost reason alone to use it. Melee's can get quite hectic and while there isn't necessarily less strategy, what's there is easier to see and use for most people.

Obviously Brawl singles doesn't have any advantages over Melee...

Chi-town, come at me
Just leave the two seperate i personally wouldnt go to one because i would die of boredom off of melee singles.

two day events are the way to go for this type of thing this way people who only like one dosent have to be there for the other and still get to play their game with doubles, singles, and hell even crews(sometimes).

that or brawl only
