Still up Peach's dress.
Me neither but I’m not one to give up a chance to be a pendant
*Pedant. Unless you're hoping to be a necklace.

Hail to the king of pedantry.

Anyway, back on topic. I'm not sure if I count the online tournaments as a way of deconfirmation. We've had:
  • Heroes vs. Villains round which could easily have been held off to include Cloud and Sephiroth
  • A team mate based fighter tournament that Pyra/Mythra would have been a good fit for
  • A 90s tournament that again Sephiroth would have fit in nicely with
  • A 2000s tournament before Steve appeared
Not saying we'll get anyone from a first party series that has had a dedicated tournament like Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, Kirby and DK, but there's too many exceptions for me to think this is a hard and fast deconfirmation.

Don't forget a lightweight tournament before we found out Sephiroth would be bizarrely light.

I'm still very hyped for Cranky Kong, which is seeming not to fade any time soon. Mr. Resetti is another want of my dream wants. These two are the last first party I'm asking for, Cranky being the upmost top priority. I just want to move on from Wart to limit my stress meter, he's still pretty hype on most days. Dang..

Pokey would be fun indeed, he's another decently popular fan pick I'm low key behind depending on my mood. I want Earthbound Pokey. I've gotten over Ghirahim, Mimikyu and somewhat Doc Louis. All and all, I just want my final first party picks to be as tight squeezed as possible.

Same, Porky is the last first party character that I want who actually has a chance (in my humble opinion).

R.I.P. Mimikyu, Waluigi, Thunderblight Ganon and Tom Nook... I really would have loved you guys as playable...

Waluigi is far more likely, being a legacy pick and already recurring character. If he gets in Wario Land as Wario's Luigi, he's set for Smash. Mimikyu is forever out of the running, Decidueye has far more positives in his favor. Tom Nook is pretty close, as much I would Resetti. Nook is at least very important to his home series.

My most wanted realistic first party at this point is Octoling with a mostly Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion focus content and moveset-wise

Elma, while from a different game than Pyra/Mythra, doesn’t seem likely unless there’s like a bonus individual DLC after the pass to end DLC like how Piranha Plant started it. And I’m still salty Mecha-Fiora, who was one of my ballot votes, got Tom Nook’d (aka relegated to a Final Smash) literally on reveal day. Chrom being playable AND in a Final Smash and even victory screen for Robin gave me a bit of hope but I realize now he’s the exception and not the norm...

and Black Shadow? He’s a pipe dream, but sadly that’s all he’ll ever be unless F-Zero makes a comeback soon which I doubt

he chose robin, incineroar and pyra/mythra over the popular choices and other popular choices like isaac and geno have been relegated to cameos
Robin is technically the protagonist, being the main avatar character

you might argue Pyra/Mythra are the true focus of XC2 too at least from a narrative standpoint

that doesnt make them the popular choices such perspectives have got nothing to do with what we're talking about

These characters can be protagonists and popular at the same time.

A character doesn't have to be the MOST popular for Popularity being a big factor in their inclusion.

but their popularity wasn’t what got them in. Robin it was for uniqueness, pyra/mythra cause he abandoned Rex at the first hurdle

Pyra & Mythra are arguably the most prominent figure of Xenoblade 2 though, despite not being directly playable in their game (minus Torna ~ The Golden Country in Mythra's case).

Fun fact: KOS-MOS isn't the protagonist of the Xenosaga trilogy either, yet she's the series' postergirl.

but that doesnt change the fact that rex was the popular choice for smash and is treated as the face of the game by monolith

To be fair, and as much as I appreciate Rex, he was more on the "expected" spectrum rather than the "wanted" one, similar to Chrom in Smash 4.

I’ve seen enough awakening fans to know he was genuinely popular and I was part of that Rex community trust me it was about want not expectation

People saying Chrom was less popular than Robin kind of smacks of revisionism tbh.

Sorry guys, but Robin wasn't wanted pre-reveal. He was a welcome surprise for sure, but there was barely anyone back then talking up how cool Robin would be over Chrom even from a unique standing. There were even potentially more comments about a Chrom/Lucina pair up unit style fighter than Robin(from my recollection at least).

I was a Robin fan back in the day, and Chrom had considerably more fan art, demand and love thrown his way with Robin/Avatar/MyUnit only really gaining that level of popularity post Smash reveal, seeing as they were barely treated as an actual character up to that point.

Chrom meanwhile was always(and still is) a very popular character prior to his expected arrival and Lucina was the only one from Awakening that could be justified as a more popular pick.

Didn't help that Isaac and Shulk were also magical sword boys that were wanted so Robin was a far cry from wanted, less he kneecap the chances of those two.

I don't know enough about Xenoblade's fanbase pre Pyra/Mythra reveal to comment on Rex's scenario. Pretty sure he had genuine fans at least.

I would not call Shulk a "Magical Sword Boy", but you are right, Robin was almost a no-show from Smash speculation. Chrom was the clear frontrunner for said FE REP, plus Gematsu's Leak only made him MORE Popular. Just because a character is Vanilla basic doesn't mean they have no fans..

Does a new Wario Ware being announced make anyone think that a character from that franchise is more likely?
