Spirits are not deconfirms in any way whatsoever. If they are, that's 1200+ deconfirmed characters and it would be easier to tell who's going to be DLC by checking who isn't a spirit.

She's been getting more and more support lately, but back in the Brawl and, to some extent, SSB4 days I know there were a tragic number of people who didn't want Lip in the game because she's a "loli" (she isn't) and they didn't want people to draw porn of her now.

Well I mean, Konata Izumi is supposedly "loli" despite being 18, so maybe it's an appearance thing. So I guess they go by the definition that if a character looks visibly younger than 16 they're a loli, and Lip definitely looks like a very young girl. But whatever, "people drawing porn" is not a good reason to exclude a character.

All the fat/feeding/bara scaly porn of Bowser and K. Rool is far more degenerate and still not enough to exclude them so why should it be for Lip?

They also meant her references mean nothing to the character, it only hurts the characters chances from appearing in the future, the AC one didn't even boost up her relevance and Japan-only character. None of that ever helped her from being familiar to the character in the past.

I swear you'd find a reason to say that a full-on Panel de Pon revival that makes millions of dollars and successfully reintroducess Lip and friends to a new audience actively hurts her chances. Do you just like feeling upset over Lippy or what?

You guys have heard how players are already data mining the game & they found 30 more Slots. I know Nintendo might not want to add 30 more characters but that gives us more of a chance to get Lip if Spirits do not de-confirm characters. But it does mean we might get another DLC Pass in the future. Like Wavev 1, Wave 2, Ect...

I hope there's that much DLC. Again, there's nothing saying Lip can't be a spirit and a fighter. Being a spirit doesn't even mean you can't be an assist. Kapp'n is a spirit and I'm pretty sure Isaac is too.

Only Assist Trophies are hard deconfirmations. Just remember that.

There's one thing I found interesting about the item related profile icons: They don't have their own section and they still go by series. Mr. Saturn, Dragoon, Death, Smash Ball and Lip aren't all put together like the Assist Trophies. Especially when items/assist are both considered secondary representation in Smash. Primary is playable/stage universes. Of course not all items have their own selectable profile icons in the game.
Not all Assist Trophies had Friend Icons in Sm4sh, but all 59 assists do have one in Ultimate.

There aren't any section for Bosses either so Marx and Pig Ganon aren't close to each other either.

The items aren't even usually first of the non-playable icons for each series from what I've seen and if the items were all sorted together, then this would be more against to hurt Lip's chances as a fighter. Diskun is in front of Lip in the Misc profile icons, even though Lip is more represented in the game. Still I don't know if they consider Lip more related to the Spirit or the item, she's not the first character after all. Neither is Mr. Saturn in the EB section (Evee goes before and doesn't appear in any form outside the Spirit), Kirby I can understand since it was the stage and a Sword Kirby who's the final Smash. Death, well he's also a stage hazard.

Don't hate me for this: But I think Freddy would actually be a very unique, quirky addition that would fit right in Smashes colorful cast. Not like it will EVER happen; but i'm not 100% opposed to it :3

Don't forget besides Marth, Roy, and Ike the rest of the Fire Emblem characters appear in modern games for modern systems (Switch/3DS)

If I had to pick a contemporary character to be in Smash, it'd be something like Hat Kid or Shovel Knight. Truthfully DLC characters that are going to sell well are going to have some degree of personality to them like those two. None of the ones listed above (Freddy Fazbear, Steve, Roblox Kid, etc.) have any personality, or even come close to being worthy of Smash inclusion. "They sold well" is not a good enough argument. Smash characters have a timeless quality to them and are cherished throughout decades, not just a flavor of the month sort of thing. Freddy Fazbear is from a mediocre horror game that only got popular because of youtubers reacting to its jumpscares. Minecraft is only kept in public discourse these days by the fact that Microsoft keeps milking it. And the Roblox Kid skirts the line of legality by resembling a lego figure.

All of these games are mostly remembered for gimmicks, none of them are really remembered for their compelling gameplay, story or characters.

TBH It's not that these games a necessarily BAD, but I feel like that people who aren't gamers are aware of them for unintentional reasons. People aren't gonna know Freddy only because he's a video game character, but it's because he's not bear you see on book bags, as stuffed animals, or figures at Hot Topic or something LOL

Things are getting interesting at the general thread.

Alright. Let me try to navigate a condensed summary of all we know about right now given what @Fatmanonice and @PolarPanda have said:

• One of our five fighters is another SE fighter
  • The SE list is Sephiroth, Crono, Slime, Luminary, Erdrick, Sora, and Geno
    • Of these seven, only three were seriously considered. We don't know who those three are.
      • One was immediately thrown out to the surprise of the character's creators, who tried and failed to rally for them and complicated negotiations (potentially why we didn't get any additional FF content).
      • Two moved on and one made it in the door while the other was on standby. No one knows how that went. We could get one, both, or neither for all we know.
        • If we only get one, the one who didn't make it is actually leakbait and no one can release the two serious picks lest they risk themselves getting outed and having action taken against them
          • All of this information came from an outside source and could be fake, but makes sense given other known information
    • Geno's in here too, as a source within Nintendo told PolarPanda that he heard about him in an office rumor on November 2nd. Since then other potential developments about the SE character have become known, however, making Geno seem unlikely.
• Minecraft currently has no hard evidence, and relies on trusting Vergeben's trusted source, even though most insiders have cut ties with Vergeben. If there is any hard evidence, it's being hidden for the time being. Regardless, Steve is still on the table.
• A supposed "boomer" pick whose name starts with an L is also highly likely but not confirmed.
  • Is very likely Lloyd Irving, but could also be Leon Kennedy or even Lip.

Here's where I'm confused:

• Two out of the five fighters are agreed upon by most insiders in the know (who's the second one?)
  • There's a category of two characters that are agreed upon and another two are debated to be in (here's the one I least understand)
• There's a minor shill character being considered as one of the three remaining characters
  • This character is within a pool of five characters that could potentially fill the other three slots (? - verification needed)
• No characters created past 2014 are being considered (how does anyone know this? this is dangerously close to "I know Sakurai's thought methods" level of claims)

I'll end this post with an aside saying that I was wrong to judge PolarPanda given my former stance towards him as a result of the Theory Wars, and I'll apologize for any scornful comments I said during the beginning of this speculation period. It seems like he and his group just want to get the truth out there, and I respect that.

Supposing it's true, I think that of those SE characters, Sephiroth, Crono and Geno are the ones who were considered. But I honestly don't know how you guys keep putting any faith in these leaks. The first time it happened and got debunked was enough to make me roll my eyes and see it all as fanciful bullsh**. We're nearing the 40th Smash leak of the year and the game still isn't even out for another few days.
